Atlanta Hawks at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Atlanta Hawks at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Atlanta Hawks (2-1) take on the Detroit Pistons (1-3) Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Hawks vs. Pistons odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Hawks are coming off a surprising 126-109 home loss to the Charlotte Hornets Sunday despite being 10-point favorites. It’s been a solid start for newly-acquired G Dejounte Murray as he’s notched 19.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 3.3 steals per game on 46% shooting from the field.

The Pistons are on the 2nd leg of a back-to-back after losing 120-99 at the Washington Wizards Tuesday, failing to cover as 6-point underdogs. F Bojan Bogdanovic is leading Detroit in scoring with 20.8 points on 51.9% shooting to begin the season.

Hawks at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 123, Pistons 109

Moneyline

PASS on the moneyline in this game with the Hawks being heavy favorites over the Pistons on the road. Taking Atlanta (-300) isn’t worth the risk considering the low return you’ll receive if the Hawks win.

Against the spread

I’ll take HAWKS -7.5 (-112) with the Pistons playing a back-to-back after losing at the Wizards Tuesday. I’m expecting big games from Murray and G Trae Young with Atlanta having 2 days of rest since its last game.

The Pistons are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games following a loss by 10 or more points.

Over/Under

Even with Detroit having the 5th-worst offensive rating in the NBA, OVER 230.5 (-115) is an enticing bet. The Pistons also have the 4th-worst defensive rating in the league, which should lead to the Hawks scoring points in bunches, and both teams are top 11 in pace this season.

The Over has hit in each of the last 4 games for Atlanta against a team with a winning percentage below .400. Meanwhile, Detroit has hit the Over in 7 of its last 8 games overall.

Atlanta Hawks at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Atlanta Hawks at Detroit Pistons and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Atlanta Hawks (36-36) head to the Motor City Wednesday to play the Detroit Pistons (19-53) at Little Caesars Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hawks vs. Pistons odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Atlanta has alternated between winning and losing the last five games — 3-2 straight up (SU) and 2-3 against the spread (ATS) — with the most recent being a 117-111 road victory at the New York Knicks Tuesday.

Detroit has lost 6 of its last 7 games (5-2 ATS) including two straight at the Cleveland Cavaliers Saturday (113-109) and the tanking Portland Trail Blazers Monday (119-115).

These teams are tied 1-1 SU and ATS in their head-to-head series this season and the total is 1-1 Over/Under as well.

Hawks at Pistons odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pistons 117, Hawks 113

Money line

SPRINKLE on the PISTONS (+175)  with the plan of hitting their spread harder because Detroit’s victory over the Hawks (-220) March 7 wasn’t a fluke. In fact, the Pistons outperformed the Hawks in three of the “four factors” and they tied in the fourth.

Furthermore, Atlanta should be a bigger favorite considering Hawks PG All-Star Trae Young put on a virtuoso performance at Madison Square Garden Tuesday and the Pistons lost to a terrible Trail Blazers squad.

Also, Young has struggled in his four visits to Detroit, averaging just 18.3 points on 32.8% field goal shooting (25.7% from behind the arc) with 8.8 assists to 5.5 turnovers in those four games.

Again, the sharper wager is Detroit’s spread but I’ll SPRINKLE  on the PISTONS (+175).

Against the spread

Definitely BET the PISTONS +5.5 (-115)  heavier than or instead of their ML since this is an awful spot for the Hawks -5.5 (-107) and the presumed sharp side of the market is backing Detroit.

For instance, the Hawks are 4-9 ATS in the second of a back-to-back with a minus-2.6 ATS margin, 5-8 ATS as road favorites and 0-6 ATS in their last six games versus teams with a losing record. Also, the Pistons are 17-12-1 ATS as home underdogs and 9-5 ATS as 5-to-7-point underdogs.

On top of that, this is a Pros versus Joe’s scenario in the betting market. Nearly 60% of the cash is on the Pistons but more than 85% of the bets placed are on the Hawks, according to Pregame.com.

Since sharps wager more money than the public, the cash column is seen as the sharp side of the betting market.

The PISTONS PLUS THE POINTS  is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN to the OVER 227.5 (-112)  but we’d be getting the worst of the number since the Hawks-Pistons game opened with a 224.5-point total (per Pregame.com).

Atlanta is 8-5 O/U in the second of a back-to-back, Detroit is 10-6 O/U when playing with a rest advantage and these teams have a combined 37-22 O/U versus teams with a losing record.

Atlanta Hawks at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Atlanta Hawks at Detroit Pistons odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Atlanta Hawks (31-32) visit Little Caesars Arena Monday to take on the Detroit Pistons (17-47). Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Hawks vs. Pistons odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Hawks have alternated covering and not covering the spread over their last 6 games, having gone 5-5 against the spread (ATS) over their last 10. Atlanta is 28-35 ATS on the season.

The Hawks have struggled this season, sitting 10th in the Eastern Conference. They’re led by G Trae Young, who averages 28 points and 9.3 assists per game.

As for the Pistons, while they sit 14th in the East, they’re 33-31 ATS on the season and are 15-12 ATS as a home underdog.

Detroit has been on fire recently, covering 7 straight games and winning 5 of them outright. The Pistons are led by F Jerami Grant, who is scoring 19.0 points per game.

Hawks at Pistons odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Hawks 119, Pistons 113

Money line

PASS.

I wouldn’t bet Atlanta -350. That’s far too pricey for a road team as inconsistent as the Hawks. Atlanta is just 12-19 straight up on the road. I’d lean towards the points for value in this matchup.

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Against the spread

“LEAN” on the PISTONS +7.5 (-112).

The Pistons have been covering at too high of a rate to bet against. Having covered 7 straight and having been profitable as a home underdog this season makes this the better side of the spread.

Also, No. 1 overall pick G Cade Cunningham is starting to figure it out, averaging 20.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game over his last 7 performances.

Atlanta has not been a good covering team when road favorites either, just 4-7 ATS in that scenario. The Hawks are just 6-8 ATS since Jan. 31, so this recent stretch of hot-and-cold performances has been their rhythm as of late.

Taking on a team that covers at a high rate while the road isn’t a situation that’ll bode well for Atlanta. Considering Detroit has the worst net rating in the league, I only lean to them despite this being a favorable position.

Over/Under

BET on the OVER 227.5 (-110).

This is my favorite bet in the game.

The Hawks sit 2nd in offensive rating with the Pistons 25th in defensive rating. Also, the Young-Capela pick and roll should give Detroit fits as starting C Isaiah Stewart stands just 6-foot-8.

Atlanta is No. 1 in turnover rate and No. 7 in true shooting percentage, both of which will bode well for the Over, especially against a team that ranks in the bottom 10 in defensive efficiency.

Both teams also sit in the top 20 in pace as well with the Pistons 15th and Hawks 18th on the season. The Hawks are 35-28 O/U this season and 7-3 O/U over their last 10.

Detroit is 5-3-2 O/U over its last 10 and has gone over 110 in 3 of its last 4 games. The Pistons have proven they can hang around offensively, and they’ll have to do just that against Atlanta.
