32 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 32 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 32 jersey number

The New England Patriots are officially 32 days away from their season opener against the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles. So we’re continuing our countdown series by listing every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 32 jersey.

It’s going to be hard envisioning anyone ever wearing that number again after Devin McCourty spent the last 13 years in it. The legendary safety retired from football back in March, officially bringing an end to his illustrious career in New England.

McCourty finished his NFL run with three Super Bowl titles, three All-Pro nods, two Pro Bowls and recognition as an All-Dynasty Team member for the Patriots. It’s also only a matter of time before he’s permanently enshrined in the New England Patriots’ Hall of Fame.

Let’s take a look at McCourty and all of the players that came before him that wore the No. 32 (via Pro Football Reference).

Wisconsin offers 2025 DB, son of a former Badger coach

Wisconsin offers 2025 DB, son of a former Badger coach

The Badgers added to their early 2025 offer list this week after an impressive camp performance from the son of a former Wisconsin coach.

Tre Poteat, a 2025 defensive back out of Verona, Wisconsin is no stranger to the Badger program. He earned an offer this past week. Poteat’s dad, Hank, is currently the cornerbacks coach at Iowa State, but served in the same role at Wisconsin for two seasons under former Badger head coach Paul Chryst.

It was a standout camp performance in Madison during the recent June camp that solidified an offer for Poteat.

The Verona Area High School product has over 20 offers, including those from Florida, Michigan, Illinois, and Iowa State among other big-name schools.

Former Badger CB coach headed to Iowa State

Hank Poteat will leave his role as cornerbacks coach with the Badgers and join the coaching staff at Iowa State.

It was announced Thursday that Iowa State has added former Badger cornerbacks coach Hank Poteat to their staff for the upcoming 2023 season. The former NFL player operated as an assistant coach with Wisconsin for each of the last two seasons and while working with Jim Leonhard on the Badgers’ defense in 2022, the unit ranked 11th nationally in total defense, allowing 303.5 yards per game.

With the new coaching staff coming into Madison, Poteat will now move on to a new opportunity with Iowa State. The Cyclones’ defense was suffocating in 2022, allowing just 285.6 yards per game, which ranked fourth in the nation. Poteat will look to maintain that level of success in 2023.

Having played ten seasons as a defensive back in the NFL, winning Super Bowl 39 as a member of the Patriots, and now having served 12 years as secondary coach at the collegiate level, Iowa State has brought in a proven commodity in Poteat.

A look at Wisconsin football’s entire coaching staff for the 2022 season

Here is a look at Wisconsin football’s revamped coaching staff for the 2022 season:

When Wisconsin football returns to the field this fall, it will look significantly different from the one fans saw last winter in the Las Vegas Bowl against Arizona State, especially on the sideline.

After a disappointing 9-4 season, head coach Paul Chryst decided it was time to shake things up on the coaching staff, specifically as it pertained to the offense.

UW averaged 25.4 and 25.1 points per game in the last two seasons. The last time Wisconsin went consecutive seasons averaging fewer than 26 points per game came back in 1991. It was time for an influx of new ideas.

Since then, Coach Chryst has hired three new assistant coaches and moved several other coaches into new roles.

The most significant shakeup in the coaching staff came when former offensive coordinator and current Badgers’ offensive line coach Joe Rudolph departed for a similar position with Virginia Tech – a clean slate for both sides.

Coach Chryst quickly identified Baltimore Ravens tight ends coach Bobby Engram as the program’s next offensive coordinator, and signed him to a two-year deal. He will look to reinvigorate a Wisconsin Badgers’ offense that has become stale in recent years.

Gary Brown joined the Wisconsin coaching staff after the departure of former Badgers’ RB coach John Settle to the Kentucky Wildcats this offseason, while Ross Kolodziej transitioned to his new role from his position as head strength and conditioning coach for the Badgers. Hank Poteat was hired by Wisconsin this offseason after being the CB coach for the Toledo Rockets since 2017.

Coach Brown and coach Kolodziej have already been featured on Badger football’s ‘Mic’d Up’ series, but it was great to hear all of the coaches speak about their coaching philosophies and their expectations for this upcoming season.
