Schroder, Gallinari, and Diallo all available against Mavericks

Billy Donovan said all three will play without a minutes restriction against Dallas on Tuesday night.

If Oklahoma City’s New Year resolution was to get healthy, they’re already well on their way.

Per Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman, Billy Donovan announced Tuesday night that Dennis Schroder, Danilo Gallinari, and Hamidou Diallo will all be available against the Dallas Mavericks.

Schroder and Gallinari have both been dealing with ankle soreness. Schroder missed Sunday’s win over the Raptors after experiencing soreness in his right ankle following Friday’s win over Charlotte.

Gallinari didn’t even make the recent road trip with the Thunder. He has missed the last four games with left ankle soreness that he first felt in pregame prior to Oklahoma City’s win over the Clippers.

The best injury update from Tuesday, however, might be the return of Hamidou Diallo. Diallo missed the last 17 games for the Thunder after suffering a hyperextended right elbow in OKC’s loss to the Lakers back on Nov. 22.

The initial timetable for Diallo was four-to-six weeks.

Donovan said that all three will play without a minutes restriction on Tuesday night.

Oklahoma City will look to close out the 2019 calendar year with a home win over the Mavericks.

The Thunder heads back out on the road to start the New Year, going to San Antonio on January 2.

Danilo Gallinari could miss fifth straight game due to ankle soreness

He has not played since suffering left ankle soreness prior to OKC’s game vs. the Clippers on Dec. 22. His current status is questionable.

Danilo Gallinari could miss his fifth straight game with left ankle soreness.

He is still listed as questionable ahead of Oklahoma City’s final game of the 2019 calendar year against the Dallas Mavericks.

Gallinari did not travel with the team on their recent road trip due to the injury, a move Billy Donovan called “precautionary”.

Gallo initially injured his ankle during pregame prior to the Thunder’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers on December 22. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Darius Bazley and has not played since.

Gallinari has been one of Oklahoma City’s most potent offensive weapons this season, capable of giving the Thunder 20 points on any given night. On the year, he’s averaging 18.0 points per game and hitting 43.2% of his shots from the field.

Gallo has also been a valuable 3-point shooting, making 39.5% of his attempts from beyond the arc.

Dennis Schroder is also listed as questionable with ankle soreness, although Schroder’s injury is to his right ankle.

Hamidou Diallo is the third Thunder player listed as questionable prior to OKC’s matchup against the Mavericks, although Diallo was upgraded from out Tuesday afternoon.

Diallo has been working back from the hyperextension injury to his right elbow he suffered back on November 22.

Hamidou Diallo upgraded to questionable ahead of OKC’s game vs. Mavs

Diallo has missed the last 17 games after suffering a hyperextended right elbow injury in the Thunder’s loss to the Lakers on November 22.

Finally some positive injury news for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

According to Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman, Hamidou Diallo has been upgraded ahead of the Thunder’s game against the Mavericks on Tuesday night. His status is now listed as questionable.

Diallo has been out since the end of November with a hyperextended right elbow injury. He suffered the injury while defending LeBron James in the fourth quarter of the Thunder’s 130-127 loss to the Lakers on November 22.

After suffering the injury, the Thunder had initially announced that Diallo would be re-evaluated in four-to-six weeks. As noted by Mussatto, as of Tuesday it’s been five weeks and one day.

Diallo has been closely monitored by the Oklahoma City medical staff since November and was said to be on track in his recovery.

Thunder head coach Billy Donovan told The Oklahoman earlier this month that Diallo had been doing what he could to “keep himself in shape”.

“I think that first part was a little bit difficult for him to really be able to do much because his arm was in a sling. But now that he’s got it out and he’s got the ability to run and move and use his right hand some, and use his right arm some, that’s been a good thing.”

Prior to his injury, Diallo was averaging 8.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and .8 assists in 21.4 minutes per game.

Diallo has missed the Thunder’s last 17 games. He also missed three games early in November with left knee soreness.

Hamidou Diallo progressing on schedule to return from right elbow injury

Monday is the four-week mark since Diallo suffered a hyperextended right elbow. Per Billy Donovan, he is on track without any setbacks.

Good news for Thunder fans.

Hamidou Diallo is on schedule to return from the hyperextended right elbow that he suffered at the end of November in a game against the Lakers.

The initial timeframe was for Diallo to be re-evaluated in four-to-six weeks. With that four-week mark coming up on Monday, Thunder head coach Billy Donovan told reporters, including Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman, that Diallo in on-track without any setbacks.

“I think he’s feeling good,” Donovan said Saturday. “The biggest thing I think he’s trying to do is keep himself in shape. I think that first part was a little bit difficult for him to really be able to do much because his arm was in a sling. But now that he’s got it out and he’s got the ability to run and move and use his right hand some, and use his right arm some, that’s been a good thing.”

In a video that Lee posted on Twitter, Diallo has his elbow encased in a black compression sleeve, driving to the basket and putting up a short-range jumper with his right hand.

Lee also noted that the medical staff is monitoring the number of shots that Diallo is taking and from where.

Oklahoma City is back in action on Sunday when they host Paul George and the Clippers.

Lu Dort providing OKC with valuable defensive minutes during roadtrip

With Terrance Ferguson sidelined due to injury, Thunder rookie Lu Dort has stepped up to play the role of defensive stopper.

Oklahoma City is down to Dort.

The Thunder rookie provided OKC with valuable minutes during the team’s 104-90 win over the Utah Jazz on Monday. With Terrance Ferguson still sidelined with hip soreness, Dort played the role of defensive stopper against the Jazz and guard Donovan Mitchell.

Monday’s game was just the third appearance for the Thunder by the two-way player. Dort did spend the preseason with Oklahoma City but has spent the majority of his time since October in the NBA’s G-League with the OKC Blue.

As such, there isn’t a lot of film available for teams to study, and as Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman pointed out when Dort was matched up against Mitchell, the Jazz guard didn’t seem to know what to do.

The third-year point guard suddenly lunged forward, shifting side to side. Dort backpedaled with deliberate steps.

Mitchell crossed to his left and drove to the basket. Dort shuffled in lockstep. Until they reached the free throw line. Mitchell raised his right forearm and knocked Dort to the ground. Dort didn’t get the offensive foul call, but an off-balance Mitchell air-balled the scoop shot.

Billy Donovan has gone to Dort out of necessity. As previously mentioned, Ferguson on with the team on the road trip but has not played, Hamidou Diallo is out with an elbow sprain, and on Monday night, Danilo Gallinari couldn’t go due to an ankle injury.

Dort has scored much in either of the last two games, scoring just two against Portland and nine against Utah while picking up six and four personal fouls, respectively. But he’s drawn tough defensive assignments, and his teammates have seen the value that Dort has been able to bring.

“I mean, Dort,” Thunder guard Dennis Schröder said, “he did a great job just pursuing, making him (Mitchell) uncomfortable. It was a great team effort as well, but Lu, he deserved that one. And he scored as well.”

Oklahoma City continues their road trip on Wednesday night when Dort and the Thunder take on the Kings in Sacramento. Tip-off is at 9 p.m. CT.

Abdel Nader looks to step up in Diallo’s absence

Billy Donovan said the second-year forward has a “tendency to overthink”, but is one of the hardest workers the head coach has been around.

No one wants to see a teammate go down with an injury. But the reality of professional sports is that when one person can’t play, it means there’s an opportunity for someone else.

Hamidou Diallo will be out for at least the next month thanks to the hyperextended right elbow that he suffered last Friday against the Lakers.

Although Diallo wasn’t a regular in the Thunder’s starting rotation, he was still averaging over 20 minutes a game, minutes that need to be filled.

Coaches often talk about a “next man up” mentality. In this case, the next man up is Abdel Nader.

Head coach Billy Donovan told Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman that Nader is “as good of a worker as I’ve ever been around”, but added that the second-year player “has a tendency to overthink”.

“And I think when guys start doing that, it kind of takes away that aggressiveness,” Donovan said. “So we’ve got to try to help him find a balance there.”

Donovan’s assessment isn’t exactly a secret. Nader himself admits that he does often overthink, a by-product of trying to secure in a spot in an Oklahoma City rotation that’s already heavy with wings and stretch forwards.

“I think that has a lot to do with it,” Nader said. “The unknown, right? When you’re trying to solidify yourself in the NBA, it’s not easy or else everybody would do it.”

Nader opened up about the work that he’s been putting in to try and improve his game, telling Mussatto that he’ll often stay at the Thunder’s practice facility until 3 o’clock in the morning.

“Almost every day whether it’s midnight and I can’t sleep or early in the morning before practice,” Nader said. “There’s always time. “I’m a little bit crazy when it comes to the work I’ve gotta put in. I wanna make sure my game feels tight — my shot, my handle, everything. That’s how I feel like I get better.”

Nader played 11 minutes in Oklahoma City’s 100-97 win over Golden State on Monday, scoring two points to go along with a rebound, an assist, and a block.

Hamidou Diallo to be reevaluated in 4-6 weeks

Diallo suffered a hyperextended right elbow in a loss to the Lakers. The Thunder announced Monday he’ll be reevaluated in 4-6 weeks.

Hamidou Diallo did not make the trip to the West Coast with the Thunder for games against the Golden State Warriors and Portland Trail Blazers this week, and it looks like he won’t be making any trips for at least the next month.

Diallo, who suffered a hyperextended right elbow in Friday’s loss to the Lakers, will be reevaluated in four to six weeks, the Thunder announced Monday.

The injury occurred with 9:30 remaining in the game against Los Angeles on Friday night when Diallo fell backward while guarding LeBron James. As James drove to the basket, his forearm seemed to collide with Diallo, sending the second-year wing backward. As he fell, Diallo’s right arm and elbow made contact with the leg of Mike Muscala, who had come over to help defend James in the paint.

Diallo went immediately to the locker room after suffering the injury and did not return.

It is the same elbow that Diallo had arthroscopic surgery on in April 2018.

Diallo already missed three games in November with left knee soreness.

Thunder wing Hamidou Diallo not with team, to miss Dubs, Blazers tilts

Recovering from a hyperextended right elbow, Oklahoma City Thunder wing Hamidou Diallo will miss games against the Warriors and Trail Blazers after not traveling with the team.

Oklahoma City Thunder wing Hamidou Diallo will miss at least the team’s next two games, having not traveled with the team as they make a short west coast road trip.

Diallo, who hyperextended his right elbow in the final frame of the franchise’s 130-127 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on a LeBron James drive to the basket, was expected to miss Monday night’s matchup with the Warriors after injuring an arm operated on in 2018.

The Kentucky product can now be safely ruled out of Wednesday night’s match against the Portland Trail Blazers as well, reports the Oklahoman’s Joe Mussatto, as it would be highly unusual for the Queens native to travel to Oregon on his own for the match.

Diallo’s timetable to return to action is at present unknown, but for now, the very earliest fans can expect to see the 6-foot-5 guard in action again will be when the Thunder host the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, Nov. 29th.

Kerr expects Draymond Green to return Monday against Oklahoma City

Steve Kerr said on Friday he expects Draymond Green to return Monday after missing back-to-back games with a sore heel.

There are a lot of players on both sides that are going to be out of Monday’s game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State.

But the Warriors don’t expect Draymond Green to be one of them.

Green missed back-to-back games with a sore heel, but according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Steve Kerr told reporters prior to Golden State’s game against the Jazz on Friday that they expect Green to be back Monday in time to take on the Thunder.

“The expectation is he will be able to play,” Kerr told reporters in Utah. “To have two days off— the next two days is really important. Rather than chase our tail with this one, we’d rather just take tonight off— that will have given him five straight days by the time we play.”

The Warriors desperately need Green to return to the rotation. As noted by WarriorsWire, Golden State leads the NBA in games missed due to injury. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, D’Angelo Russell, Kevon Looney, Jacob Evans III, and Damion Lee will all be out against Oklahoma City, per Joe Mussatto of The Oklahoman.

Golden State not the only one dealing with injuries, however.

The Thunder announced Sunday that Hamidou Diallo will miss Monday’s game after suffering a hyperextended right elbow in Friday’s loss.

Steven Adams has also been hampered by a left knee injury, although he scored a season-high 22 points against the Lakers.

The Thunder and Golden State will tip-off inside the Chase Center at 9:30 p.m. CT Monday night.

Hamidou Diallo suffered hyperextended right elbow, out Monday against Warriors

Diallo’s injury occurred with 9:30 left in the fourth quarter of Friday night’s loss to L.A. There’s no immediate timetable for his return.

Hamidou Diallo is out for Monday’s game against the Golden State Warriors.

Diallo suffered a hyperextension of his right elbow, per the Thunder. Maddie Lee of The Oklahoman tweeted the update, adding that there is no immediate time table for his return.

The injury occurred during the fourth quarter of Friday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

With about 9:30 remaining in the game, while LeBron James was driving to the basket, he seemed to extend his arm and push Diallo to the floor. As he fell, Diallo’s arm collided with Mike Muscala, who had moved over into the paint to try and help defend James.

Below is the clip of the play where the injury happened.

Diallo went to the ground in obvious pain and went immediately to the locker room after being helped up by the Thunder training staff.

The second-year guard has had issues with his right elbow before. He had arthroscopic surgery in April of 2018 that sidelined him for four weeks.

It’s a definite blow for the Thunder considering Diallo had just returned Friday after missing Oklahoma City’s three previous games with left knee soreness.

The Thunder have lost three consecutive games. After playing two games in Los Angeles last week, Oklahoma City returns to the West Coast Monday when they face the Warriors. Tip-off is at 9:30 p.m. CT.
