With the loss, the Giants fall to 5-10 on the season and are officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Here is a look at some of the studs and duds (and studly duds) from the Week 16 defeat.

Giants end primetime curse, stun Packers, 24-22, to keep playoff hopes alive

The New York Giants ended their primetime curse and stayed alive in the NFC Playoff hunt with a 24-22 upset of the Packers on Monday night.

The New York Giants hosted the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football at MetLife Stadium in a Week 14 matchup between two of the NFC’s hottest teams.

The Giants sported their ‘classic’ uniforms from their 1980s heyday under Bill Parcells and local hero Tommy DeVito started once again at quarterback.

Here’s how things turned out…

Giants’ Joe Schoen explains why he cut Jamison Crowder

New York Giants GM Joe Schoen explains why he cut return specialist Jamison Crowder prior to the season: “That’s on me.”

The New York Giants are underperforming in all passes of the game this season. Their offense is last in scoring and yards and their defense is ranked 28th overall.

Their special teams, a unit the Giants have prided themselves in the past few seasons, has also had its challenges. They are averaging just 6.5 yards per punt return (30th) and the reason is fairly clear – they have failed to find a reliable returner.

“That’s on me,” general manager Joe Schoen told reporters on Monday.

“To be honest with you, that’s another — we tried to address the punt returner. We knew it was an issue. In the draft, some of the guys we liked went probably higher than where we deemed you would take a guy.”

The Giants ended up settling on rookie running back Eric Gray, a fifth-round pick out of Oklahoma who averaged just 4.0 yards per return on 28 attempts and had serious ball security issues to boot.

Gray was injured in Week 8 and has been out with an ankle injury ever since. He returned in Week 12 but the Giants have moved on, adding free agent Gunner Olszewski, who has stabilized to the role, averaging 9.3 yards per attempt.

Schoen spoke about Gray and his background, which led to the Giants believing he could handle the responsibility of returning punts over several veterans, including Jameson Crowder, who the Giants cut.

“Eric had done it at Tennessee, and he had done it at Oklahoma and the coaches were comfortable, we were comfortable going into the regular season based off what we were seeing,” Schoen explained.

“I know Crowder is having success in Washington, you bring him up — we kept seven receivers; we couldn’t keep eight. Do the math, who do you move on from, from the group if you kept Crowder? So, there was some moving parts in there and that’s me being candid with you and that’s on me, the returner. I’m glad we got (wide receiver) Gunner (Olszewski) here, though. He’s done a really good job for us.”

Schoen didn’t quite close the door on Gray. The Giants still need him for depth in the backfield and could still try him as a returner in the future.

“Eric’s got a bright future and we probably put him in a spot that wasn’t most comfortable for him either, but he went out there, didn’t flinch an eye, didn’t bat an eye, and did what he could, but again that’s on me, early on. We couldn’t do everything overnight and as much as we wanted to and that was a position we continued to look for and Pittsburgh let Gunner go and we were able to get him,” Schoen said.

Meanwhile, out in Washington, Crowder is seventh in the league with 207 yards on punt returns.

Giants report card: How we graded Big Blue in Week 11 win

The New York Giants defeated the Washington Commanders, 31-19, in Week 11 and the Giants Wire team grades reflect that performance.

The New York Giants defeated the Washington Commanders, 31-19, in Week 11.

This victory for New York completes the season sweep on Washington while also making it the seventh win in the last 10 matchups. The Giants looked like a completely different team on Sunday firing on all sides of the ball and finishing with their first two-score win of the season.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what we saw during the game and how we graded the Giants in this win.

Stock up, down after Giants’ 30-6 loss to Raiders

Whose stock is up and whose is down following the New York Giants’ Sunday afternoon loss to the Las Vegas Raiders?

The New York Giants were backhanded repeatedly by the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. They lost quarterback Daniel Jones, right tackle Evan Neal and the game itself, 30-6.

It was a new low point for this Giants franchise, which continues to find new and inventive ways to underperform. Just when you think it can’t get worse, it does.

Whose stock is up and whose is down after the Week 9 loss? Let’s take a look.

Studs and duds from Giants’ Week 9 loss vs. Raiders

Here’s a look at the studs and duds (and studly duds) from a 30-6 loss for the New York Giants against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.

The New York Giants managed to find a new rock bottom on Sunday, falling to the Las Vegas Raiders, 30-6, in a game that also saw quarterback Daniel Jones suffer an apparent season-ending injury.

Despite mass turnover within the Raiders organization and an unproven rookie starting at quarterback, the Giants never stood a chance. They had the doors blown off them from the opening kickoff on.

With the loss, the Giants fall to 2-7 on the season and they must now begin to turn their attention to the 2024 NFL draft.

Here’s a look at some of the studs and duds (and studly duds) from the team’s latest loss.

The New York Giants suffered another big loss, 30-6, against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9.

The hopes were high for Big Blue coming into this one as the Raiders were starting a rookie fourth-round quarterback. However, any dreams of success were quickly squandered as Daniel Jones suffered a non-contact knee injury early in the game and the wheels completely fell off the bus.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what we saw during the game and how we graded the Giants in this loss.

Giants sign Tommy DeVito to active roster, Matt Barkley to practice squad

The New York Giants have added QB Tommy DeVito to their active roster and QB Matt Barkley to their practice squad, plus other transactions.

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones may be cleared for contact and returning to practice on Wednesday, but the team still has issues at the position.

Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor is considered “week-to-week” after suffering a severe rib cage injury during a Week 8 loss to the New York Jets. He has yet to be placed on injured reserve (IR) but will not be available this Sunday.

Accordingly, the Giants have signed rookie Tommy DeVito from their practice squad. He will now serve as Jones’ backup.

DeVito, who had been elevated for the maximum three games this season, went 2-of-7 for -1 yard passing in relief of Taylor last week.

Taking DeVito’s spot on the practice squad is Matt Barkley, the former Buffalo Bills quarterback who worked out for the Giants earlier this month.

The 33-year-old Barkley was a fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2013 NFL draft. He quickly became a journeyman, making stops with nine different teams over his 11-year career, including two stints with the aforementioned Bills.

The Giants also released center Jaylon Thomas from their practice squad and signed wide receiver/return specialist Gunner Olszewski to replace him.

Olszewski was signed to the Giants’ 53-man roster before their game against the Jets and served as their punt returner, averaging 9.3 yards per return. He had his contract terminated after the game but general manager Joe Schoen always intended to bring him back.

Olszewski will almost certainly be elevated ahead of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Giants sign CB Stantley Thomas-Oliver to practice squad

The New York Giants are signing former Carolina Panthers cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver to their practice squad.

The New York Giants are signing free agent cornerback Stanley Thomas-Oliver, who spent the last three seasons with the Carolina Panthers, much of it on injured reserve and the practice squad.

NFL insider Aaron Wilson was the first to report the signing.

Thomas-Oliver, a former wide receiver, was the 221st selection (7th round) in the 2020 NFL draft by the Panthers out of Florida International.

The 25-year-old Thomas-Oliver has appeared in 25 games for the Panthers with no starts. He was released by the Panthers off their practice squad in September.

In 25 career games, Thomas-Oliver has recorded 17 tackles (12 solo). Most of his snaps have come on special teams.

The Giants also terminated the contract of wide receiver and punt returner, Gunner Olszewski. However, he is expected to be re-signed this week.

Giants report card: How we graded Big Blue in Week 8 loss

The New York Giants fell to the New York Jets, 13-10, in Week 8 and the Giants Wire team grades reflect that performance.

The New York Giants fell to the New York Jets, 13-10, in overtime on Sunday afternoon in MetLife Stadium.

This one was a stinger for Giants fans as it looked like a surefire win until the last few seconds of regulation. It does not help having half of your starting offense on the field for most of the game due to all of the injuries but this was one the Giants should have probably came away with a win.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what we saw during the game and how we graded the Giants in this loss.
