Cleveland Guardians at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Cleveland Guardians at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with expert MLB picks, predictions and best bets.

The Cleveland Guardians (47-48) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (41-54) wrap up a 3-game interleague series Wednesday at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. ET. (ESPN+/MLB Network). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook‘s lines around the Guardians vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Guardians lead 2-0

The Guardians slinked into the Steel City on a 4-game losing streak, but Cleveland has gotten well in Pittsburgh. The Guthe ardians put it to the Bucs 10-1 in Tuesday’s middle game after winning 11-0 in Monday’s series opener. It’s the 1st time this season Cleveland has racked up double-digit run totals against the same opponent in consecutive games.

The Pirates have dropped 5 straight games and are just 1-9 in the past 10 games overall. Pittsburgh has lost 4 consecutive interleague games and has cashed the Over in 3 straight outings.

Guardians at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Guardians 6, Pirates 3

Moneyline

The GUARDIANS (-132) are worth playing in the series finale, as the Pirates have offered very little resistance in the first 2 games of this series.

Cleveland has outscored Pittsburgh 21-1 so far in this set, so what’s going to change Wednesday? The Guards are using Civale, who has been money on the road this season, and the Bucs counter with Hill, who has been subpar while looking his age. Back the visitors as they break out the brooms.

Run line/Against the spread

The GUARDIANS -1.5 (+116) are worth playing lightly at plus money. Cleveland easily cashed in the first 2 games on the run line, but you have to figure Pittsburgh will keep this one a little closer.

One negative note on Civale is that he has a 4.58 ERA in 17 2/3 IP across 3 daytime starts. However, Hill has a 4.64 ERA across 54 1/3 IP over 10 starts under the sun, so there’s that.

Over/Under

Over/Under 9 (-110) is a PASS for me, as I expect the total to fall with exactly 9 runs. If there was a lean, it would be to go high, as Cleveland has hit the Over on its own in each of the first 2 games.

Cleveland Guardians at Pittsburgh Pirates odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Cleveland Guardians at Pittsburgh Pirates odds and lines, with expert MLB picks, predictions and best bets.

The Cleveland Guardians (46-48) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (41-53) play the middle contest of a 3-game interleague series Tuesday at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook‘s lines around the Guardians vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Guardians lead 1-0

The Guardians snapped a 4-game losing streak with a 11-0 win in Monday’s series opener and it pulled within 1 1/2 games of 1st place in the AL Central as the Minnesota Twins lost Monday. The 11 runs scored were the most since dropping 14 runs on the Kansas City Royals June 28.

Cleveland turns back to LHP Logan Allen, who last appeared in the majors June 28. He was sent down to Triple-A Columbus then, but with injuries to RHP Shane Bieber (forearm), RHP Triston McKenzie (elbow), RHP Cal Quantrill (shoulder), as well as fellow rookie RHP Peyton Battenfield (shoulder), Allen could have a regular spot in the rotation in the 2n half.

The Pirates saw prospect RHP Quinn Priester allowing 7 runs, 7 hits and 2 BB with 2 K in 5 1/3 IP in his major league debut Monday. Pittsburgh has dropped 4 straight contests, and 8 of the last 9 games overall.

To stop the bleeding, the Bucs turn to RHP Mitch Keller, who was an All-Star. The Under has cashed at a 4-1-1 clip in his past 6 starts.

Guardians at Pirates projected starters

LHP Logan Allen vs. RHP Mitch Keller

Allen (3-2, 3.47 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 1.44 WHIP, 3.5 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 in 62 1/3 innings.

  • Last appearance: No-decision, 3 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K in a 14-1 road win vs. the Kansas City Royals June 28
  • 2023 road splits: 2-1, 2.97 ERA (30 1/3 IP, 10 ER – 2 HR), .241 opponent batting average (OBA) in 6 starts

Keller (9-4, 3.31 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.12 WHIP, 2.6 BB/9 and 9.9 K/9 in 117 innings.

  • Last appearance: No-decision, 7 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 5 BB, 4 K in a 3-2 extra-inning road loss July 8 vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks
  • 2023 home splits: 5-1, 2.63 ERA (51 1/3 IP, 15 ER – 5 HR), .194 OBA in 8 starts

Guardians at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Pirates 4, Guardians 2

Moneyline

The PIRATES (-110) are a strong play, as the home side looks for the bounce back.

After getting emasculated in the series opener, Pittsburgh is a strong bet with its All-Star on the bump. He has posted an impressive 5-1 record in 8 home starts, while the opposition is hitting under the Mendoza line against him. Back Keller, as he gets the Bucs a rare win.

Run line/Against the spread

The Pirates +1.5 (-184) are a little too pricey if you’d like a little bit of insurance. With Keller on the mound, you shouldn’t need to play the Bucs as a ‘dog catching the run and a half. If you like Pittsburgh, just bet it straight up as a much, much better value.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 8.5 (-110) is the lean in the middle game.

Again, the Under is 4-1-1 in Keller’s last 6 starts, and the Pittsburgh offense has averaged just 2.8 runs per game (RPG) across the previous 9 outings.

For the Guardians, the Over is actually 3-1 in the last 4 games, but this is still a team which struggles offensively. Cleveland is averaging just 4.1 RPG to rank 27th in the majors, according to covers.com, while ranking dead-last in homers with just 67.

The Cleveland Guardians (45-48) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (41-52) open a 3-game interleague series Monday at PNC Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Guardians vs. Pirates odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting since Pirates won 2 of 3 games in 2021

The Guardians are in freefall, dropping 4 consecutive games to slip to 2 1/2 games out of 1st place in the AL Central behind the Minnesota Twins. Cleveland has averaged just 2.5 runs per game (RPG) during the 4-game skid.

The Pirates were swept over the weekend against the San Francisco Giants, losing all 3 games by a combined score of 17-9. Pittsburgh has dropped 10 of the past 12 games overall.

Cleveland has managed a 12-18 record in interleague play this season, while Pittsburgh has posted an 11-18 mark against the AL. The Guardians are 21-26 on the road this season, while the Pirates are 22-24 on their home field.

Guardians at Pirates projected starters

RHP Xzavion Curry vs. RHP Quinn Priester

Curry (3-0, 3.04 ERA) makes his 1st start of 2023, and just the 3rd of his MLB career. He has a 1.16 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 6.1 K/9 in 23 appearances this season covering 47 1/3 innings.

  • Last appearance: 1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB, 2 K in a 2-0 road loss in relief vs. the Texas Rangers Saturday
  • 2023 road splits: 1-0, 4.03 ERA (22 1/3 IP, 10 ER – 4 HR), .275 opponent batting average (OBA) in 11 relief appearances

Priester is making his ML debut. He was 7-3 with a 4.31 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 8.6 K/9 in 87 2/3 innings in 18 starts for Triple-A Indianapolis.

  • Last start (Triple-A): No-decision, 1 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 1 HBP, 0 BB, 0 K vs. the Omaha Storm Chasers Friday

Guardians at Pirates picks and predictions

Prediction

Guardians 6, Pirates 4

Moneyline

The GUARDIANS (-124) are a solid play on the moneyline.

While Curry makes his 1st start of the season, and just the 3rd of his career, he has been holding it down and posting strong numbers out of the bullpen for the Guardians.

Priester makes his debut for the Pirates (+106), and he is a bit of an unknown quantity. He hasn’t exactly lit it up in the minors, and Cleveland should be able to welcome him to the majors with an L.

Run line/Against the spread

The GUARDIANS -1.5 (+126) are worth backing lightly, mainly due to the ineptitude of the Bucs.

The Pirates +1.5 (-152) cannot be trusted, however, as Pittsburgh has lost 5 straight at home. In addition, the Pirates are 2-10 in the lpast 12 games overall, with 9 of those setbacks coming by 2 or more runs.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 9.5 (-104) is worth playing lightly in this interleague series opener.

The Over has connected in 2 of the last 3 games for the Bucs, and 8-1-1 in the last 10 games at home. The Over is also 3-0-1 in the past 4 interleague games for the Bucs.

For the Guardians, the Over cashed in 2 of 3 games over the weekend in Texas, and the Over is 5-3 in the last 8 road games for Cleveland. The Over is 8-6-1 in the past 15 interleague games for the Guards, too.
