Seahawks rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks bounces back from groin injury

Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks bounced back quickly from a groin injury which turned out to be a cramp, per Pete Carroll.

The Seattle Seahawks rookie first-round draft pick resumed practice on Thursday after missing time with a sore groin. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks sat out on Monday and was limited on Tuesday but was able to return after the team rest day on Wednesday.

“He’s practicing today, he practiced the day before yesterday – got some reps in,” coach Pete Carroll said Thursday during his press conference before the players took the field. “He surprised us that he was able to bounce back. He’s getting a pretty good number of plays today, not quite a full load, but he’ll be out there. We just want to work him back in and make sure he’s OK.”

Fortunately, Brooks’ injury may not be as serious as first thought and could only be a temporary situation.

“It might have been a little more of a cramp than a tug and a pull,” Carroll explained. “Hopefully, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that he is able to do some good things today and come back tomorrow and the next day.

“We’d like to really get him out there on Saturday if we can.”

The Seahawks are set to scrimmage at CenturyLink Field Saturday afternoon in a mock-game setting.

Receivers David Moore and Freddie Swain suffer minor injuries in camp

Seattle Seahawks wide receivers David Moore (ankle) and Freddie Swain (groin) suffered minor injuries in training camp this week.

The Seattle Seahawks have been fortunate throughout the first week of on-the-field practices during training camp. Relatively few players have suffered new injuries despite having only a virtual offseason this year.

Coach Pete Carroll did report that rookie wide receiver Freddie Swain has a groin issue and veteran David Moore hurt his ankle.

“D-Mo just turned his ankle a little bit,” Carroll said via Zoom ahead of Monday’s practice. “We’ll see if he can go today, it was just a couple days ago. It’s not serious at all. It may take another day or so.”

Moore did not practice on Sunday but was able to return to the field Monday afternoon after all.

As for Swain, he likely won’t be able to participate over the next few days.

“Freddie just got little bit of a groin thing that just kind of nicked him, so we’ve got to make sure that we don’t let that get worse, so he’ll be quiet for a couple days now,” Carroll explained. “And Freddie’s had a really good start so far, so we have seen him already, and he’s made a good first impression.”

The Seahawks resume practice Tuesday afternoon.

Pete Carroll is counting on Jadeveon Clowney making it back Week 13

Although he won’t practice Wednesday, coach Pete Carroll is counting on defensive end Jadeveon Clowney to be ready to face the Vikings.

The Seattle Seahawks have seen a vast improvement in their pass-rushing capabilities with defensive end Jadeveon Clowney on the field.

Clowney, who was inactive Week 12 against the Eagles with a hip/groin injury, saw a specialist ahead of the matchup in Philadelphia. Likely a sports hernia, Clowney isn’t facing surgery at this time, but will need to prove he’s healthy enough to play ahead of Monday night.

Coach Pete Carroll said Clowney won’t practice on Wednesday, but the team is counting on him to be ready to face the Vikings.

“Not a whole lot more other than we’re counting on him getting back,” Carroll said Wednesday. “We are – we are counting on him getting back, but he’s still gotta make it. So that’s the twinge of optimism there again.

“But he feels good about and he wants to go and he’s going to try to make it.”

The Seahawks have Thursday off for Thanksgiving but will practice Friday and Saturday to prepare for Minnesota.
