Report: Saints expect Erik McCoy to miss 6 to 8 weeks with groin surgery

The Saints expect starting center Erik McCoy to miss 6 to 8 weeks after groin surgery, a brutal blow to their offense for the foreseeable future:

The blows keep coming for the New Orleans Saints. After a 15-12 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, all eyes turned to the health of Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy, one of their most crucial components on offense. Unfortunately, a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo says that McCoy is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks, as he will be having surgery for his groin injury. This is a catastrophic blow to the Saints offense, which had been thriving through the first two weeks before he went down early in Week 3, which led to all sorts of dysfunction.

The replacement for McCoy will be a critical thing to figure out in the coming days, whether that be someone on the roster, a free agent, or a rare early trade if they want to get really competitive. Unfortunately, replacing him will be near impossible at his level of play, but finding someone that can at least be serviceable in his stead until he returns is paramount. Based on the current timeline expect, the sooner end has him returning for Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons, and the far end would have him back for Week 13 against the Los Angeles Rams, due to the bye week slotted in-between. Once the surgery concludes and he begins his healing process, the timeline will become more clear in the days that follow.

Alex Highsmith doubtful to return with groin injury

Alex Highsmith injured his groin towards the end of the first half, and he is now deemed doubtful to return.

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Alex Highsmith was injured just as he nearly recorded a drive-ending sack on Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert with a little over one minute remaining.  Herbert scrambled away and threw for a first down, but when the dust settled, Highsmith was headed for the medical tent.

This isn’t the kind of body language you would expect out of a player attempting to rejoin the game, and we now know the reason why: Highsmith was deemed doubtful to return.

Injuries are utterly devastating the Pittsburgh Steelers three weeks into the regular season.  Alex Highsmith is a pivotal piece in the dynamic edge rushing duo with T.J. Watt, and now it will be up to second-year player Nick Herbig to shoulder the privilege of sacking the quarterback.

Saints center Erik McCoy (groin) won’t return vs. Eagles

New Orleans Saints starting center Erik McCoy won’t return to their Week 3 matchup dueto a groin injury:

This story was updated to add new information.

Update: The Saints announced that Erik McCoy’s status was downgraded, and he will not return against the Eagles.

The New Orleans Saints found themselves with an early injury in their Week 3 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, as starting center Erik McCoy went down on the first drive with what looked to be a severe injury as he walked off the field very carefully. Lucas Patrick replaced him and Olisaemeka  Udoh filled in at left guard.

The good news is that he was not immediately ruled out, as he was later announced as questionable to return with a groin injury.

On another positive note, it was not a knee injury or hamstring issue, which are both concerning for anyone, but especially offensive linemen. We will monitor how his status changes throughout the game, and hopefully he can get a chance to get back into the game at some point.

Chiefs CB Rashad Fenton ruled out vs. Commanders with groin injury

#Chiefs CB Rashad Fenton will not return against the #Commanders due to a groin injury.

The Kansas City Chiefs just got CB Rashad Fenton back from injury, but it seems like he has a new ailment that he’s dealing with.

Late in the second quarter, officials stopped the game to attend to Fenton after he went to a knee on the field. Many were concerned that he might have reinjured his shoulder after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.

After heading to the blue injury tent on the sideline briefly, Fenton emerged and seemed to be in good spirits. He went to the bench and dapped up some of his teammates before heading to the locker room. The team ruled Fenton out very quickly afterward with a groin injury.

Fenton is a fourth-year player in Kansas City. He’s expected to be one of the team’s three starters at the cornerback position, but this new injury could put him behind the eight-ball on that goal, depending on the severity. It’s a contract year for Fenton, so he’ll likely do what he can to get back to the field quickly. That won’t be happening in preseason Week 2 vs. the Commanders, though.

Lakers news: Anthony Davis gives update on groin during Twitch livestream

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis explained how his groin feels during a Twitch livestream.

If Anthony Davis didn’t suffer a groin strain against the Phoenix Suns in the opening round of the NBA playoffs, it’s possible the Los Angeles Lakers could’ve been playing right now.

But that’s not the reality Davis and the Lakers are facing. Once Davis went down, the series tilted in Phoenix’s favor.

The Lakers already had shooting concerns with Davis healthy, but his ability to score inside the arc helped mitigate those issues.

However, once Davis’ presence was removed from the equation, L.A. didn’t have enough reliable sources on offense to rival the Suns’ output.

As the Lakers rest up for next season, Davis explained how his groin currently feels:

It’s been about two weeks since the Lakers were eliminated, so it’s a promising sign to see Davis optimistic this early in the offseason.

Davis also had injury problems during the regular season. He missed 36 games with a calf strain he suffered in mid-February, which dealt a major blow to L.A. in the playoff standings.

But since next season doesn’t start until mid-October, there’s plenty of time for Davis and the rest of the squad to heal after a grueling campaign.

Seahawks suffer only minor injuries in Week 13 loss to Giants

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player injury updates following the team’s loss to the New York Giants in Week 13.

The Seattle Seahawks suffered an upset loss at the hands of the New York Giants in Week 13, falling to the G Men 17-12. After the defeat, the Seahawks are now 8-4 on the year.

In addition to losing the ballgame, Seattle also suffered a couple of minor injuries during the matchup, including to right tackle Jamarco Jones – already the third-string player who was in at the position.

Jones was ruled out due to a groin injury late in the contest and Chad Wheeler was sent in off the bench.

Coach Pete Carroll confirmed Jones had pulled his groin during his postgame press conference.

Wide receiver Tyler Lockett took a hit to the head early in the game and went to the medical tent to be evaluated. He went through a quick concussion test and was cleared to play and re-entered the matchup.

Seahawks Jamal Adams and Jordyn Brooks both out against Dolphins

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams (groin) and linebacker Jordyn Brooks (knee) have both been ruled out against Dolphins Week 4 in Miami.

The Seattle Seahawks received some good news Friday morning when coach Pete Carroll confirmed running back Chris Carson could be ready to play in the Week-4 contest in Miami. The bad news, however, is that both linebacker Jordyn Brooks and safety Jamal Adams will be sitting this matchup out.

Brooks (knee) and Adams (groin) both sustained their injuries last week against the Cowboys. Neither has recovered in time to take the field against the Dolphins.

“Jordyn’s really stiff. He’s not gonna make it this weekend,” Carroll told KIRO’s Dori Monson Friday morning. “(His knee) not too bad but it just wound up being really stiff.

Carroll provided an update on Adams as well, who also left last week’s game early.

“Jamal is not ready yet,” Carroll said. “He won’t make it. We’ll miss the heck out of him.”

The Seahawks are set to square off in Miami on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Seahawks safety Jamal Adams leaves Cowboys game with groin injury

Seattle Seahawks safety Jamal Adams left the Week- 3 game against the Dallas Cowboys with a groin injury and was not able to return.

The injuries just continued to mount in the Seattle Seahawks Week-3 contest against the Dallas Cowboys at CenturyLink Field. Although Seattle was eventually able to come away with the 38-31 win, the victory proved costly. Safety Jamal Adams was just one of a number of players to leave the game, unable to return.

Adams pulled up with a groin injury in the fourth quarter, throwing his helmet aside in frustration. He continued to coach up his teammates from the sidelines, but all he could do was watch the final few minutes of the ballgame. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks, who was making his first NFL start Week 3, also left the contest with an injury (knee).

Coach Pete Carroll provided an update on Adams during his post-game press conference.

“Jamal Adams got a groin strain,” Carroll told reporters. “Don’t know what is going to happen with that, it was pretty tight.”

More details could be available tomorrow afternoon by the time Carroll addresses the media at 3:00 p.m. PT.

Joe Dahl was injured on Thursday, won’t practice Friday, and his game status is in doubt

After injuring his groin during Thursday’s practice, Detroit Lions starting left guard Joe Dahl will miss Friday’s practice and his status for Sunday’s game is in doubt.

Mid-week injuries, especially soft tissue injuries, are typically bad news for a player’s game availability, and the Detroit Lions could be looking for a new starting left guard for their Week 2 matchup with the Green Bay Packers.

After injuring his groin during Thursday’s practice, Lions starting left guard Joe Dahl will miss Friday’s practice — per coach Matt Patricia at his morning press conference — and his status for Sunday’s game is in doubt.

With starting right tackle Hal Vaitai’s game status also in doubt, Tyrell Crosby may be headed towards another start at right tackle. That would leave veteran Oday Aboushi, rookie Logan Stenberg, or tackle/guard Matt Nelson as the primary players that could replace Dahl.

The Lions could also promote Kenny Wiggins or Beau Benzschawel from the practice squad, but that would likely be for depth purposes, as opposed to either of them challenging to start.

Stenberg is Dahl’s backup on the Lions official depth chart, but the odds are more likely that Aboushi is the next man up. Aboushi started two games for the Lions, both at left guard replacing Dahl late in 2019.

Seahawks rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks bounces back from groin injury

Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks bounced back quickly from a groin injury which turned out to be a cramp, per Pete Carroll.

The Seattle Seahawks rookie first-round draft pick resumed practice on Thursday after missing time with a sore groin. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks sat out on Monday and was limited on Tuesday but was able to return after the team rest day on Wednesday.

“He’s practicing today, he practiced the day before yesterday – got some reps in,” coach Pete Carroll said Thursday during his press conference before the players took the field. “He surprised us that he was able to bounce back. He’s getting a pretty good number of plays today, not quite a full load, but he’ll be out there. We just want to work him back in and make sure he’s OK.”

Fortunately, Brooks’ injury may not be as serious as first thought and could only be a temporary situation.

“It might have been a little more of a cramp than a tug and a pull,” Carroll explained. “Hopefully, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that he is able to do some good things today and come back tomorrow and the next day.

“We’d like to really get him out there on Saturday if we can.”

The Seahawks are set to scrimmage at CenturyLink Field Saturday afternoon in a mock-game setting.
