Grand Theft Auto 5 is free on Xbox Game Pass in July again

GTA 5 is on Xbox Game Pass once again, joining the console’s lineup of free July games and DLC for Hi-Fi Rush, Forza Horizon 5, and more

GTA 5 is on Xbox Game Pass once again, joining the console’s lineup of free July games and DLC. GTA V on Game Pass includes the Xbox One and Series X|S versions, though it’s only available for console and cloud players. PC Game Pass subscribers will have to pay for the game.

If you’ve managed to avoid GTA 5 over the past 10 years, here’s what the open-world game is all about:

“When a young street hustler, a retired bank robber, and a terrifying psychopath find themselves entangled with some of the most frightening and deranged elements of the criminal underworld, the U.S. government, and the entertainment industry, they must pull off a series of dangerous heists to survive in a ruthless city in which they can trust nobody,” the description reads.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is Sword and Fairy: Together Forever, a stylized action-RPG where you pull together a team of demons, humans, and gods to save a world on the brink of ruin. This one is on console, cloud, and PC.

Here’s what you can expect later in the month.

Everything we know about GTA 6

Grand Theft Auto 6 has suffered from a series of major leaks, and here’s all the information we currently know about the game.

Back in February 2022, Rockstar Games announced Grand Theft Auto 6, after years of patient waiting from fans. GTA6 was merely name-dropped in a blog though, we still haven’t officially seen the game in action.

But with the information in that blog and a series of recent leaks, we now have a fairly good idea of what we’ll be doing in GTA 6, and who we’ll be playing as. These leaks have since been confirmed by Rockstar to be real.

In this breakdown we’ll be going over everything we know about GTA 6 right now.

GTA Online makes Short Trips missions available to all players

The co-op missions focus on Franklin and Lamar years after GTA 5’s story

Rockstar Games is making GTA Online’s co-op missions dubbed Short Trips available to all players. Prior to this change, the only way to access the Short Trips levels was to beat every mission in GTA Online’s latest expansion, The Contract, which features Dr. Dre. Anyone can easily access these missions now in the job menu beginning Feb. 11.

The Contract also brings back two characters from Grand Theft Auto 5’s story, Franklin and Lamar, and gives players a glimpse at what the duo’s been up to in recent years. Franklin establishes his own company dedicated to solving celebrities’ issues, hence why he and Lamar wind up getting entangled with Dr. Dre, who needs help locating a lost phone with music he doesn’t want out in the wild.

These characters take center stage in Short Trips, which focuses on Lamar’s blossoming business ventures, and the hijinx the two leads find themselves in shortly thereafter. The mission pack is short, altogether only amounting to three missions. While brief, I’m sure it’s a boon to many GTA Online players to not have to finish the previous expansion to access them anymore.

GTA Online is obviously a massive success, helping propel GTA 5 to baffling levels of success. Don’t fret about the non-stop expansions for GTA Online though, it isn’t standing in the way of Rockstar developing the next Grand Theft Auto game. And if you just want more GTA 5, Rockstar’s bringing it and GTA Online to next-gen consoles very soon.

Take-Two CEO states Grand Theft Auto 6 details will come when Rockstar is ready

Strauss Zelnick is leaving everything up to developers.

All it took was a passing mention of Grand Theft Auto 6’s  existence  from Rockstar to send everyone into a fit on Friday. Anyone hoping for more in-depth details may want to avoid staring at the clock, though.

In an interview with IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explains that the ball is in Rockstar’s court regarding the follow-up to GTA 5.

“Obviously people need to stay tuned, a lot more information to be shared and Rockstar will do so in time,” Zelnick said.

That statement (unfortunately) doesn’t tell us much, but it’s no surprise that Zelnick is leaving everything up to Rockstar. Before the GTA 5  re-release drops  for  PS5  and  Xbox Series X|S  next month, Take-Two announced that the game surpassed 160 million units and reached $1 billion in retail sales faster than any release in entertainment history.

As you might imagine, replicating GTA 5’s success will be an arduous task for Rockstar. However, Zelnick believes it’s possible.

“Each iteration for all of our successful franchises at this company, all of them, has always done better than the one before,” Zelnick said via IGN. “I’m not saying that’ll happen again, I’m not saying that’s guaranteed, but that’s certainly our goal.”

Yeah, raking in another billion dollars is probably the goal of every big company. It makes those  Zynga purchases  much more manageable, I imagine.

GTA 5 and GTA Online will release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in March

Rockstar confirms the next-generation on GTA is on the way.

After years of teasing, Rockstar will finally bring GTA 5  and GTA Online  to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on March 15.

These are not vanilla ports of GTA 5  and GTA Online  either. Rockstar said Friday that the  PS5  and  Xbox Series X|S  versions will have loads of new graphical enhancements.

The new graphics options for GTA 5  and GTA Online  include:

  • 4K resolutions.
  • 60 frames per second (FPS).
  • Texture and draw distance improvements.
  • HDR options.
  • Ray-tracing support.
  • Faster load times.
  • 3D audio.
  • Haptic feedback (platform-specific).

Rockstar also confirms that you’ll be able to transfer both story mode progress in GTA 5  and character progression in GTA Online  to the new console versions.

GTA Online  will also be a standalone release, meaning fans can purchase and download it without purchasing GTA 5  (or replay its prologue) again. Everything multiplayer fans want without the single-player trimmings, more or less. It makes sense, as GTA Online  is so big that  Dr. Dre’s newest music made its debut  in the game.

Rockstar also snuck in a GTA 6  announcement in its  blog  about these remasters. It’s funny how most studios have to spend millions on  Game Awards trailers  to send fans into frenzies while Rockstar can just confirm things in one sentence on its blog and get similar results.

GTA Trilogy PC owners can now get another game for free

Owners of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on PC are now eligible for claiming another Rockstar game for free.

Anyone who has read anything about Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will likely be well aware of the package’s many issues. After launching in an unplayable state on PC, the game was promptly taken off digital storefronts before being reinstated a week later. Rockstar then publicly apologized for the state of Grove Street Games’ highly anticipated revamp of three beloved titles before pushing a massive patch later that month

Since then, Rockstar has stated that GTA Trilogy owners would be compensated for launch issues by receiving the original versions of all three games free of charge provided they played on PC and had access to the publisher’s proprietary launcher. The company has now gone a step further by promising an additional gift, offering players a choice of seven different options.

These options are as follows:

  • Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition
  • Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition
  • Max Payne 3
  • L.A. Noire
  • Bully: Scholarship Edition
  • A Great White Shark Cash Card for GTA Online
  • 55 Gold Bars for Red Dead Online

Anyone who has purchased a copy of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition already will automatically be eligible for this offer provided they haven’t yet requested a refund for the game. People who buy the collection before 12 a.m. ET on Jan. 6, 2022 will also be able to claim one of the free games or items – after that time, the offer will end.

It’s important to note that this offer is exclusive for PC players via the official Rockstar Launcher. Console players and anyone who plays with a different launcher on PC will not be able to claim a gift unless they repurchase the trilogy through Rockstar’s digital store.

You can buy Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for 20% off here. Various other Rockstar games are on sale too, with Red Dead Redemption 2 going for 66% off, Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition going for 50% off, and Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition going for 70% off, to name a few.

If you’re eligible for one of the gifts listed above, be sure to check out our recent interview with Rockstar on how GTA Online became the home of Dr. Dre’s new music.

Here’s a snippet of Dr. Dre and Eminem’s new song for Grand Theft Auto Online

The Contract will reunite an iconic rap duo.

The Contract, a campaign DLC for GTA Online, will feature new music by Dr. Dre, and the good doctor shared a bit of it.

Rumors for Dr. Dre’s appearance  in GTA Online  circled for quite a while, but we only  recently got confirmation that it’s happening. Not only does Dr. Dre appear as himself in-game, but he’s releasing several new tracks for the DLC too.

Several big-name rappers are joining him as well, specifically long-time collaborator Eminem along with several others including:

  • Tyler, The Creator
  • Mozzy
  • Freddie Gibbs
  • Future
  • Kodak Black
  • TiaCorine
  • Offset
  • Rich the Kid
  • Saweetie

On Sunday, Dr. Dre released a teaser for one of the songs he’s doing with Eminem for The Contract, which you can listen to below. Keep in mind that there’s some coarse language in the track, though.

Dr. Dre hasn’t released any new music since his 2015 album Compton. Who could have known that his grand return would be in GTA Online DLC of all things? Better than appearing in a  glitchy remaster, that’s for sure!

The Contract is coming out on Dec. 15 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It’ll also be available in single-player and multiplayer.

Fans think they’ve found a Grand Theft Auto 6 hint in the GTA Trilogy

We want to believe.

Adjust those tinfoil hats for this one, friends: fans think they’ve found a Grand Theft Auto 6  hint in the GTA Trilogy, Kotaku  reported Friday

In  Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, there’s a bar called the Lil’ Probe’Inn that’s awash in pictures of UFOs. One wall of the bar, in particular, has photos of alien spacecraft flying above locations from several of Rockstar’s games.

Bits of  Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V are there, along with one peculiar shot of a white house in a tropical climate. Unlike the rest of the photos, this one isn’t from a previous game in Rockstar’s portfolio — so these fans think it’s from Grand Theft Auto 6.

Take a look at the picture in question below. Make sure to grab the biggest salt grain that you can find before doing so, though.

Several folks on the GTAForums are swearing up and down that the house is one from Boca Raton, Florida, where Grand Theft Auto: Vice City  takes place. User Igrobar took things a step further and compared a real house in Boca Raton to this in-game mystery house  and they’re pretty similar.

Again, take all of this with a heft dose of skepticism. The mystery locale could just be some stock image Rockstar stuck in there for no real reason. Maybe we’ll get to ask the developers about it next time  we interview them

Rockstar apologizes for the GTA Trilogy’s issues

Patches and fixes are on the way.

Rockstar Games took the time to apologize to fans over the state of the  GTA Trilogy.

It’s no secret that  fans aren’t happy about the state of the GTA Trilogy  remaster. Rockstar knows things aren’t up to snuff either and finally spoke about the technical issues plaguing the  GTA Trilogy.

“We want to sincerely apologize to everyone who has encountered issues playing these games,” Rockstar said  in a statement. “The Grand Theft Auto  series — and the games that make up this iconic trilogy — are as special to us as we know they are to fans around the world. The updated versions of these classic games did not launch in a state that meets our own standards of quality or the standards our fans have come to expect.”
