‘We’re not owed anything,’ Texas A&M sophomore LHP Ryan Prager previews NCAA Regional

“Just like 2022 when we did it, we had a great atmosphere. It was an awesome experience and super fun. We still have to fight and go win it.”

Redshirt sophomore left-handed pitcher Ryan Prager was a member of the last Texas A&M baseball team to reach the College World Series and he remincised in those memories on Monday.

“First off, I think it’s super special to get to play here. Getting to play at home in front of our fans is staying in our normal routine. We’ve worked all year up until this point for it. Now we start a new season and it’s the fun time of the year. We’re just really excited for it.” Prager explained. “It’s always exciting getting to play at home because there’s a comfort level with it, you get to play in front of your fans, you know it will be packed for your games and the energy will be there.

“Just like 2022 when we did it, we had a great atmosphere, a great crowd. It was an awesome experience and super fun. We’re just really excited for this year and super proud that we’ve earned a right to do this. Now going forward though, we just have to play and we’re not owed anything because we play at home.

“We still have to fight and go win it.”

‘Good to see Texas,’ Aggies sophomore OF Jace LaViolette looks ahead to NCAA Regional

“That was a really cool experience right there. I didn’t know who to expect in our regional but it was good to see Texas in there,” he said.

The No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team earned the third overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, which is the highest in program history.

After the seeding was released, sophomore outfielder Jace LaViolette shared his reaction to the Aggies hosting the Bryan-College Station Regional this weekend at Blue Bell Park.

“That was a really cool experience right there. I didn’t know who to expect in our regional but it was good to see Texas in there. It’s going to be a fun regional, especially with the other two teams. It’s going to be hard but it’s going to be a lot of fun,” LaViolette recalled Monday. “It’s speaks to the season that we had. Everything starts over again so it’s awesome, we can kind of let it sink it now but after today it doesn’t really mean anything. We’ve got to keep playing the baseball that we play and that’s about it.

“The 12th Man is real, it’s an unbelievable place to play at. It’s going to be a lot of fun to playing in front of the 12th Man. Especially because this is going to be my first time playing in a regional in front of the 12th Man so I’m really excited and I’m excited for what the 12th Man is going to bring for us.”

‘Doesn’t get us a trophy,’ Schlossnagle reacts to Texas A&M hosting NCAA Regional

“It’s been an outstanding regular season,” Schlossnagle said Monday afternoon. “It’s a great accomplishment but it doesn’t get us a trophy.”

The No. 3 Texas A&M baseball team will host the Bryan-College Station Regional of the NCAA Tournament beginning this weekend at Blue Bell Park.

Before postseason play against Grambling, Louisiana and Texas begins, Aggies coach Jim Schlossnagle spoke to the media and reacted to the seeding.

“Excited to get back home. It seems like we’ve been on the road for a while. I’m excited to play at home for a regional and get the 12th Man involved. Hopefully the rain will stay away and I’m sure it will be great baseball all weekend,” Schlossnagle said Monday. “It’s been an outstanding regular season. If you had told us before the season that this is where we were going to end up, I think everybody would’ve signed up for it.

“Three of the last four weeks haven’t been great. But like I said earlier, they call it a season for a reason and that’s because we’ve earned the right to get to play at home on Friday. It doesn’t mean anything after that, you’ve got to play well.

“It’s a great accomplishment but it doesn’t get us a trophy. It’s a means to hopefully what is a positive end.”

Texas A&M baseball’s Regional bracket has been announced

Texas A&M will enter the postseason as a No. 3 seed in the NCAA regionals and will host the Bryan-College Station Regional

The wait is over, and the NCAA regionals across the land have been set. On Monday morning the Texas A&M Aggies were announced as the No. 3 seed and will host the Bryan-College Station Regional.

At this point, the NCAA is becoming predictable anytime as the Aggies and the Texas Longhorns both make a postseason, it is guaranteed they will be scheduled to face each other within the first two rounds. However, we would all be lying to ourselves if we did not see this matchup for bragging rights. With the teams set, head coach Jim Schlossnagle and the Aggies can now officially turn the page on the less-than-stellar end of the season with an opportunity to get back on track.

Below are your Bryan-College Station Regional teams:

  1. Texas A&M
  2. Louisiana
  3. Texas
  4. Grambling

Texas A&M will face Grambling at noon CT on Friday, May 31

4 defensive standouts from Shrine Bowl practices

The defense was strong at the East-West Shrine Bowl practices. Which 2024 NFL draft prospects were standouts from that side of the ball?

The Senior Bowl isn’t the only college all-star game for NFL draft prospects to shine. East-West Shrine Bowl practices wrapped up on Tuesday morning, and the New Orleans Saints were in attendance. The defense jumped off the screen at multiple positions. Throughout the four days of practice, I found myself gravitating towards the defense during practice for both teams.

The position group that stood out the most was the defensive ends on the West team. You could have filled the defensive standouts with just that group and been justified. I decided to pick one guy from the group in Sundiata Anderson, however. These are four defensive standouts from the Shrine Bowl practices:

Former Nebraska quarterback and assistant to be next head coach at Grambling

A former Nebraska quarterback and assistant has been hired as the head coach of an HBCU.

A former Nebraska quarterback and assistant has been hired as the head coach of an HBCU. Mickey Joseph is set to take over as the head coach at Grambling State. Joseph will be taking over for Hue Jackson, who was dismissed after two seasons in charge of the Tigers.

The former Nebraska quarterback joined the Huskers coaching staff under former head coach Scott Frost for the 2022 season. He became the program’s Interim Head Coach after Frost was fired due to a 1-2 start. He finished the year with a 3-6 record after taking over the program.

He was placed on administrative leave by the Nebraska athletic department following an arrest for domestic violence. His separation from the school was announced on December 6, 2022. The charges against Joseph were eventually dropped.

Arkansas blows out Grambling in NCAA Tourney opener on Friday

Arkansas romped past Grambling in the second half in the NCAA Tournament opener on Friday night at Razorback Field.

While the Arkansas basketball team was battling Gardner-Webb across the street, the soccer team was tangling with Grambling in the NCAA Tournament opener.

It was a stalemate in the first half, but a rout in the second 45 minutes as the Razorbacks cruised to a 5-0 victory and a spot in the next round.

Bella Field earned herself a hat trick, scoring three times in the second half, one off an assist from Morgan White and the other two from Ava Tankersley.

Tankersley got into the act herself just seconds after Field scored her first goal, as both of them tallied goals in the 51st minute.

Sophia Aragon put the finishing touches on the contest with a goal in the 83rd minute to finalize.

Arkansas will await the winner of Pittsburgh and Ohio State, who play on Saturday.

Arkansas soccer earns No. 2 seed in NCAA Tourney; will play Grambling

Arkansas soccer is a 2 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will host Grambling in its first round matchup.

The Arkansas soccer team will be a 2 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, it was announced on Monday.

Coming off a SEC Tournament championship game loss to Georgia, the Razorbacks will host Grambling in the first round on Friday evening.

By earning the 2 seed, it matched the program’s highest seed earned in its history.

Arkansas (14-4-2), which won the regular season SEC title, will play the winner of Pittsburgh and Ohio State.

Ohio State, coincidentally, was the team Arkansas defeated in the second round a year ago.

The Razorbacks are in the Florida State bracket, the team that eliminated them in the Elite Eight a year ago, 1-0.

It remains to be seen the status of All-American Anna Podojil, who was injured in the SEC Tournament final.

Tickets for the Grambling game are available for $8 for adults and $3 for youth 17 and under.

Arkansas State vs Grambling State Game Preview

Why Grambling State Will Win

Arkansas State is still trying to figure it all out.

The offense should be fine, but the defense is coming off a rough year allowing more than 500 yards per game.

The Red Wolves still have to figure out how to generate pressure, the linebacking corps isn’t all that big, and Grambling State has to take advantage of all of it with a defense that should be good at getting into the backfield.

However …

Week 1 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Arkansas State Will Win

Grambling State has to prove it can score.

It was a rough run last season – the Tigers failed to score more than 16 points in six games and were among the worst in the FCS in passing efficiency.

No, Arkansas State’s defense isn’t going to be a brick wall, but it should be able to catch a break to ease into the season. The other side is fine – the offense has the potential to put this away fast.

Grambling State scored just 19 points in the first quarter last year. A few early scores could end this.

Week 1 Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews, Saturday

What’s Going To Happen

Grambling State will come up with a few scores, but it won’t be able to do anything consistently well.

The Arkansas State offense that had a hard time finding things that consistently worked will rise up and do a little of everything right with a slew of big plays.

This is the tune-up the ASU program needs.

Everson Walls: Cowboys takeaway artist’s true legacy lies in what he gave to teammate

Despite a historic rookie season and a role in two of the league’s greatest games ever, Walls greatest contribution was to an ex-teammate.

Legacy is a word that gets tossed around casually in the world of football. But what really makes for a lasting and meaningful legacy? Wins? Touchdowns? Championship trophies? Memorable moments? Mere statistics?

Yes, Everson Walls has all of those things attached to his name after a 13-year career in the pros. He’s probably most immediately remembered in the minds of Cowboys fans for his transcendent 1981 season when he snagged a whopping 11 interceptions as an undrafted rookie. Others may recall the freeze-frame images of his unique place in history in not one, but two of the biggest games of a generation.

The list of coaches who had a personal hand in Walls’s journey is a veritable who’s who of the sport’s most hallowed legends. But the legacy of the player himself is often lost in the fog of a decade’s worth of mostly lackluster Cowboys squads; he had to leave Dallas, for example, to earn the championship ring he unquestionably deserved.

He remains one of the Cowboys’ true greats, but none of his on-the-field accomplishments nor professional accolades tell the full story of Walls and what he meant to so many of his teammates… and one in particular.
