Wisconsin top class of 2025 DL target commits to Notre Dame

Wisconsin top class of 2025 DL target commits to Notre Dame:

Wisconsin Badgers top class of 2025 defensive line target Gordy Sulfsted announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Sunday via social media.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native had 25 offers and committed to Notre Dame over top programs including Washington, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Miami, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Stanford and Virginia.

Wisconsin initially offered Sulfsted on January 16, and he was slated to officially visit the Badgers’ program on June 7.

UW received a crystal ball prediction on May 13 to land the three-star defensive lineman. The projection came from Badger247’s Evan Flood and had a ‘medium’ confidence level.

The 6’5,” 240-pound lineman also had an official visit scheduled with the Duke Blue Devils the weekend of May 31.

Sulfsted was 247Sports’ No. 606 player in the class of 2025, No. 60 defensive lineman and No. 20 recruit from his home state of Ohio.

Former defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was a big part of Sulfsted’s recruitment for Wisconsin. He left the Badgers staff in mid-February, and was eventually replaced by former Air Force DL Coach E.J. Whitlow.

Sulfsted becomes Wisconsin’s latest top defensive line target to commit elsewhere. Badger transfer targets C.J. West to Indiana, Khurtiss Perry to Virginia Tech and Jay’Viar Suggs to LSU.

On the bright side, the program remains a finalist for former Wyoming DL Gavin Meyer, and is now reportedly also in on Stephen F. Austin transfer defensive lineman Brandon Lane.

UW is also working to flip class of 2025 Michigan Wolverines commit Bobby Kanka.

Notre Dame football gets a defensive end commit from Ohio

The Irish grab another commitment on Sunday

It’s fairly safe to say that not many people knew that Notre Dame football was recruiting 2025 Ohio defensive end [autotag]Gordy Sulfsted[/autotag].

What was even more interesting was that the 6-foot, 5-inch and 240-pound pass rusher committed to the Irish on Sunday afternoon. Sulfsted is a solid prospect, as he’s ranked as the No. 608 overall prospect and 60th defensive lineman according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

It was an extremely quick turnaround for Sulfsted, as he was leaning towards either Duke or Wisconsin, but when the Irish offered on Sunday, he couldn’t say no. He is commit No. 21 for Notre Dame, who continues to hold onto the top spot in the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings.

Although the Irish do have the top spot, don’t expect them to hold it until signing day. The four teams behind them each have 11-15 commits, and they aren’t far behind Notre Dame.

Sulfsted is 247Sports’ No. 606 player in the class of 2025, No. 60 defensive lineman and No. 20 recruit from his home state of Ohio.

The 6’5,” 240-pound lineman has official visits scheduled only with the Badgers and Duke Blue Devils. He will visit Duke the weekend of May 31, then Wisconsin the weekend of June 7.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native also holds offers from top programs including Washington, Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Miami, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Stanford and Virginia.

Wisconsin initially offered Sulfsted on January 16. Former defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was a big part of the recruitment. He left the Badgers staff in mid-February, and was eventually replaced by former Air Force DL Coach E.J. Whitlow.

It appears that coaching change did not hurt Wisconsin, as the Badgers are the current favorite to land Sulfsted’s commitment according to 247Sports.

Wisconsin’s class of 2025 recruiting efforts are set to ramp up as the month of May winds down.

The program is still in the transfer portal looking for help at defensive line. It is a finalist for two transfer linemen, and just scheduled a visit with another. Luke Fickell and his staff are looking to round out a successful transfer portal cycle before returning to the high school ranks.

Following the Ohio State game, Rutgers football offers Cincinnati defensive lineman

Rutgers football offered Gordy Sulfsted on Saturday.

Shortly after Rutgers football lost to No. 1 Ohio State on Saturday afternoon, Gordy Sulfsted was offered by the Scarlet Knights.

It is the sixth Power Five offer and third coming from a Big Ten program for Sulfsted, who is a 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive lineman for St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio). He is a three-star recruit and a member of the 2025 recruiting class.

Sulfsted counts offers from Cincinnati, Iowa, Louisville, Minnesota and Pittsburgh.

As a junior, he had 39 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for a loss.

One of the top teams in Ohio, St. Xavier went 7-5 this past season. They saw a four-game winning streak snapped with a loss on Friday night to Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio).

Sulfsted tweeted about the offer from Rutgers several hours after the game:

Rutgers battled Ohio State tough on Saturday, holding a 9-7 lead at halftime. The Scarlet Knights were down 21-16 early in the fourth quarter.

The defense in particular played well, limiting Ohio State to just 15 first downs.
