Tiger Woods’ Sun Day Red debuts first pair of golf shoes 40 million steps in the making

Check out the new shoes from Tiger Woods’ Sun Day Red, the Pioneer Cypress golf shoe.

Tiger Woods debuted his Sun Day Red brand earlier this year, and golfers around the world have been flocking to grab pieces of the 15-time major champion’s latest venture. SDR has been offering everything from polos and pants to hoodies and hats, but now it’s entered the shoe game.

On Wednesday, SDR’s Pioneer Cypress Shoes were made available to the public for the first time. The following is an excerpt from SDR’s website.

It has been estimated that Tiger has taken 40,000,000 steps on the course. The Sun Day Red Pioneer Cypress golf shoe is fueled by the unique insights only someone with 40,000,000 steps, 15 Majors and 82 career wins can bring. With Tiger’s direct input, Sun Day Red built the Pioneer Cypress from the ground up and from the inside out.

One of Tiger’s most important requests was that the shoe features a sleek 6mm heel to toe drop, allowing the golfer to leverage the power of ground force, while not sacrificing support. A premium full grain waterproof leather upper provides unmatched style and durability, while the Tiger Stripe deboss treatment in the heel pays homage to Tiger’s greatness. A golf shoe is only as good as its fit, with that in mind supple calf skin leather is used for the liner. When the day calls for 36 holes, the Pioneer Cypress answers with all-day comfort provided two removable footbed options. As Tiger is known to challenge any shot from any lie, the shoe is constructed with a high-density TPU full ground contact plate with a 9-cleat configuration to deliver supreme traction in all conditions.

The Pioneer Cypress Shoes are available in three colorways: White/Silver, Black/Silver and Gray/Navy. They’re priced at $250 per pair.

Want to own the shoes Caitlin Clark wore at The Annika? Here’s your chance

Here’s your next pair of shoes.

Caitlin Clark took over the LPGA on Wednesday when she played in The Annika pro-am alongside Nelly Korda and Annika Sorenstam — she played the front nine with the world No. 1 and the back with the GOAT.

Fans came out in droves to Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, to get an up-close look at the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and her golf game.

Her one goal for the day was to avoid hitting a fan, and she nearly failed. However, she rebounded and played some great shots throughout the morning.

Social media quickly picked up on Clark’s shoes and were obsessed with the gold bottoms. Her shoes were Nike’s Infinity Tour 2, however, they were a Player Exclusive, meaning they’re not available to the public.

More: Must-see photos of Nelly Korda and Caitlin Clark playing in The Annika 2024 pro-am

Nike does offer 10 colorways of the Infinity Tour 2 and you can grab yourself a pair below.

Adidas’ Rolling Links collection blends golf and skate culture

This collection’s shoes, shirts, pants and hats are at home in the fairway and the skatepark.

At first glance, golf and skateboarding might seem like polar opposites. One is all about tradition, quiet courses and polite applause, while the other revels in street style, tricks and a bit of rebellious flair. But strip away assumptions and preconceptions, and you can start to see that when it comes to apparel and footwear, the two cultures have more overlap than you might expect.

These days, public courses are filled with players wearing flashy sneakers, colorful socks and hats that wouldn’t look out of place at a skate park. Whether you’re rolling down the fairway listening to Coldplay or bumping at a half-pipe to Cage The Elephant, style is key.

With the release of the Rolling Links line of apparel and footwear, Adidas is trying to tie golf and skate culture more closely together, merging relaxed-fitting shirts, sweatshirts and tops with mix-matched socks and street-style footwear that could be at home on the tee at Torrey Pines or a few miles away at the Carmel Valley Skatepark.

The venerable Adidas Superstar sneakers, which were released in 2020 as golf shoes for the first time to mark the shoe’s 50th anniversary, are one of the stars of the Rolling Links line. Adidas’ three-stripe logo is presented in two colors on this spikeless shoe, while the removable kiltie is a nod to golf shoes that might have been worn 50 years ago.

The Rolling Links Mock Neck polo is made with a thicker, 100 percent cotton material and designed with a loose, relaxed fit, while the Rolling Links Crewneck Sweatshirt is made using 88 percent recycled polyamide with elastane and slipping it on feels retro and hip at the same time.

The complete Rolling Links collection is available at adidas.com, and more images of the items are below:

True releases ‘Zero Drop’ OG Cush golf shoes

A unique zero-drop design, added cushioning, and breathable upper help to make this shoe more comfortable on and off the course.

True was founded in 2009 to make shoes that appeal to golfers who walk. From the start, the focus has been on comfort, fit and versatility. With the launch of its new OG Cush golf shoe, True has tried to take the best elements of its original design, enhance them, and add more cushioning without sacrificing the barefoot feel and stability that made True footwear appealing to many players.

The most unique feature about the OG Cush, and what separates True footwear from nearly every other brand’s offerings, is its zero drop platform. Zero drop means your heel and forefoot are at the same height above the ground. In traditional footwear, there is typically a difference in height between your heel and the forefoot, with your heel being slightly higher than your toe. This is called the “heel-to-toe drop.” Measured in millimeters, the larger the drop, the more your heels will be elevated above your toes. Advocates of zero-drop footwear note that these shoes put your feet in their natural position, promote less forward lean, engage the muscles in your feet and legs, and promote enhanced stability and balance.

For those reasons, zero-drop footwear is popular with rock climbers, weight lifters, and CrossFit athletes, but a better connection with the ground, more stability and less forward lean can be beneficial to golfers as well.

While the OG Cush is zero drop, it still features 6 millimeters of foam underfoot to enhance cushioning while you walk, but the foam adapts to the shape of each golfer’s foot over time instead of remaining stiff. The forefoot areas of the shoes are also designed to EEE width to allow plenty of room for your feet to spread out naturally as well.

The upper of the OG Cush is made from a highly-breathable, water-resistant mesh material. The spikeless OG Cush features an outsole that is covered with small T-shaped lugs that help to provide traction. The shoe relies on these traction elements, the zero-drop design and the wider toe box to provide golfers with stability instead of spikes. As an added benefit, the OG Cush can easily be worn off the course when you are not playing.

The upper, mid-sole and outsole of OG Cush are not rigid. In fact, you can easily twist and bend the OG Cush with your hands, again, in keeping with the idea that golfers benefit from getting the muscles in their feet, ankles and legs more actively involved in the swing.

The OG Cush is available in five colorways in sizes from 7 to 15 for men and 5.5 to 11 for women for $175.

FootJoy Quantum golf shoes

Without knowing anything about Quantum, simply looking at the shoe reveals one of its most significant features.

FootJoy established itself as a leading golf shoe brand by making classic-looking footwear for decades that both tour players and recreational golfers loved. There’s an excellent chance that if your dad played golf, he wore FootJoy shoes. Still, the footwear, apparel, and accessories arm of Acushnet, the parent company of Titleist, has also been making sporty, athletic-style golf shoes for several years, and the newest model, Quantum, is another example.

The spikeless Quantum ($169, sizes 7-15) is a blend of two shoes that FootJoy currently has in its line, the Pro/SLX and the Flex, but even without knowing anything about Quantum, simply looking at the shoe reveals one of its most significant features—cushioning.

Under the heel is a massive cushioning unit that’s soft enough to be pushed in by your thumb. FootJoy calls the foam used to make that midsole SofFOAM and claims it’s the softest foam the brand has ever used, so Quantum should provide a high level of cushioning and comfort as you walk the course.

FootJoy Quantum golf shoes
Directional fins on the lateral and medial sides help the Quantum create more stability. (FootJoy)

Golfers will undoubtedly notice the sneaker-style look of the Quantum, which is similar to the Flex, but the outsole on the bottom of the shoe resembles a modified version of the outsole on the Pro/SLX. On the inner side of the forefoot on each shoe are traction elements that FootJoy calls “directional fins” that tilt inward, providing extra lateral support during your swing. On the outer portion are directional fins that tilt outward, again, to help lock your feet in position. The pattern is not as aggressive as the outsole on the Pro/SLX, but the tradeoff is that while the Quantum should provide good lateral support, it’s designed to be especially comfortable when you walk.

Quantum has also been made with a breathable mesh upper, a soft Ortholite footbed that will mold to your foot over time and a one-year waterproof warranty.

Puma releases new Phantomcat Nitro golf shoe to be worn by Rickie Fowler

It’s Puma’s most advanced shoe yet.

The new Phantomcat Nitro golf shoe has been released, and it’s Puma’s most advanced shoe yet.

This shoe looks good, but the technology behind the Phantomcat takes it to a whole new level. The new nitrogen infused foam in the heel helps give an improved rebound and lightweight response as you walk. Say goodbye to squished toes, Puma has restructured its toe box with an anatomically shaped last providing a better fit for more golfers.

In addition, the new Flexspike design provides an upgraded traction system. Flexspike was engineered to increase surface contact with the ground with its uniquely shaped cleats. These cleats provide a greater grip in the ground and better weight distribution, making these shoes feel lighter and more comfortable. The Flexspike technology allows the foot to move in all different directions as you swing and walk throughout the day.

The Phantomcat Nitro includes a 1-year waterproof guarantee with its full grain leather uppers. The TPU outsole is made up of a molded heel panel and secondary traction elements to help lock the foot into place.

“The Phantomcat Nitro is our most advanced shoe to date,” said Andrew Lawson, Senior PLM Footwear at Puma Golf. “Nitro foam and Flexspike technology gives the golfer a combination of traction and comfort like never before. The feedback we’ve received from our Tour Athletes has been fantastic and I can’t wait for golfers to try this shoe.”

These shoes will be worn by some of your favorite tour players such as Rickie Fowler, Gary Woodland, Justin Suh and JJ Spaun.
