Comedian Jo Koy’s unfunny 2024 Golden Globes monologue didn’t do well with the viewers at home or in attendance at the Beverly Hilton, and musician Taylor Swift might’ve given Koy his harshest review.

When Koy took a dig at NFL game broadcasts showing Swift in attendance at various Kansas City Chiefs contests this year because of her dating tight end Travis Kelce, the camera cut to Swift looking very unamused and taking a sip of her drink.

It was the kind of blunt reaction that said a thousand words, as everyone who saw it could feel the annoyance from Swift at Koy’s joke.

We get it; if you’re going to joke about Swift while she’s in the room, could you at least make it even remotely funny?

Koy’s night was just not going well, and now he’s got one of the more devastating reactions from a guest in an awards crowd in some time.

You just know this glance is going to turn into a meme; Swift was right to give that look.

Well, Jo Koy didn’t do too well at the Golden Globes.

Comedian Jo Koy did not get the warmest reception at the Beverly Hilton during his Golden Globes opening monologue on Sunday night.

In his first year hosting the ceremony, Koy failed to connect with the audience in any meaningful way with jokes that just weren’t landing with those in attendance.

Even Koy felt the animus in the room during his monologue and tried to deflect some of the blame onto the show’s writers, saying he was only hired 10 days ago.

If you’re wondering, that’s not a good sign for how your show opening is going when the host is trying to make excuses for how it’s going.

The folks at home didn’t feel too much differently than the folks in the room, with Koy earning jeers for his hasty, uninspired opening.

While the Golden Globes aren’t the Oscars, this lackluster performance will probably knock Koy out from similar events in the future.

Why the Golden Globes won’t have a Cecil B. DeMille or Carol Burnett Award in 2024

There’s a good reason why.

Usually, at the Golden Globes, we get to see someone receive lifetime achievement awards — there’s one named for legendary director Cecil B. DeMille and one for actress/comedian Carol Burnett, given to some of the biggest names in show business.

But not in 2024.

What’s the deal here? For one, it’s just a one-year change. We’ll get future DeMille and Burnett Awards in future years.

But this year, per the Globes, with an increase of the number of categories and nominees, it was a time crunch issue. So we won’t see those this year.
