Man Utd fans fly ‘Glazers Out’ banner at Tampa Bay Buccaneers game

A group of American-based supporters claimed responsibility

American-based Manchester United fans flew a “Glazers Out” banner above Raymond James Stadium before Monday night’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Glazer family owns both Manchester United and the Buccaneers, with several family members in attendance on Monday as the Bucs lost 25-11 to the Eagles in Tampa.

A group of United supporters shared video online of a plane flying the banner over Raymond James Stadium, adding that supporters groups from Pittsburgh and Tampa were behind the flyover.

The move was the latest in a years-long campaign against the Glazer family, who have grown increasingly unpopular with United supporters amid a relatively barren run for the Premier League giants.

United hasn’t won the Premier League since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, and hasn’t won the Champions League since 2008.

This February, United won the Carabao Cup to break a streak of six years without a trophy of any kind.

United is off to a difficult start to the 2023-24 season both on and off the field. The club sits only ninth in the Premier League table and has dealt with criticism over its handling of Mason Greenwood and Antony, who have both been accused of sexual violence. Jadon Sancho is also currently away from the team amid a spat with head coach Erik ten Hag.

The Glazer family announced last November that it was considering a sale of the team but despite strong interest from British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim, no sale appears to be forthcoming.

Bruce Arians pays respect to Don Shula on Twitter

Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians took to Twitter today to pay respect to former Dolphins coach Don Shula after the HOF coach’s passing.

The NFL world lost legendary coach Don Shula, who passed away on Monday at the age of 90.

Shula won an NFL-record 347 games, including including playoff games, and coached the Baltimore Colts (7 years) and Miami Dolphins (26 years). Shula is one of only three coaches in NFL history to win more than 300 games, with George Halas and Bill Belichick being the others.

Bucs head coach Bruce Arians tweeted out the below message today after news of Shula’s passing broke.

The Buccaneers and Glazer family also released a statement.

Monte Kiffin to be inducted into Buccaneers Ring of Honor

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that former defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will become the 14th member of their ring of honor.

Monte Kiffin, who spent 13 seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 to 2008, including during their championship season of 2002, will become the 14th member of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor.

Per Scott Smith, the Glazer Family surprised Kiffin with this news on Friday evening during what was already a surprise 80th birthday party for Kiffin in the stadium’s Hall of Fame Club.

Kiffin’s birthday is actually February 29, so he’s a leap year baby!

Here’s what Buccaneers Owner/Co-Chairman Bryan Glazer said of Kiffin:

“Monte Kiffin’s contributions to building and sustaining one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history were crucial to our franchise’s most successful era. Monte worked closely with Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden using his signature defense that became the team’s identity and was a key part of winning the Super Bowl. He was an outstanding coach, teacher and leader who consistently got the best out of his players and we eagerly anticipate welcoming him into our Ring of Honor this upcoming season.”

Congrats, and happy (early) birthday to Kiffin. Also, if he stuffs himself with birthday cake is he considered the full Monte? (Dad Joke 101.)
