Gilbert Arenas urges Clippers to trade Terance Mann to Sixers for James Harden

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas urges the Los Angeles Clippers to move Terance Mann to the Philadelphia 76ers for James Harden.

As James Harden continues to wait for the Philadelphia 76ers to send him to the Los Angeles Clippers, per his trade request, there is one big holdup in the deal.

At the moment, the Clippers have made Terance Mann untouchable in the deal. While Mann is one of the better role players in the league, it is a bit confusing why Los Angeles is holding on to him rather than moving him to acquire an elite playmaker in Harden.

Harden is not the same ruthless scorer and MVP he once was, but he has transitioned seamlessly into a new role of being a playmaker who can also score when the time calls for it. He averaged 21 points while leading the league in assists with 10.7 per game in 2022-23.

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas on an episode of “Gil’s Arena” is urging the Clippers to just move Mann for Harden:

If you’re the Clippers and you’re giving up a hustle man — and knowing your team and the stars you have, you have two stars that usually are going to miss a lot of games, and what usually happens is you don’t have enough scoring. So if you have a backup dude who can put buckets in the basket when those stars are out, and this is what I have to give up? … What am I losing?

Arenas is correct. If the Clippers actually want to acquire Harden, then move Mann, and this will all end. The Sixers need to get the right pieces in return for Harden so they can flip those pieces and acquire the impact player they need to get the job done in the Eastern Conference.

Therefore, President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey is going to wait and get the needed value from the Clippers. As for Harden, he has returned to practice. It remains to be seen if he will play in any games for Philadelphia.

Gilbert Arenas feels like Vince Carter did not reach his full potential

Gilbert Arenas expresses how Vince Carter did not reach his full potential due to his mentality and being a “Nice guy.”

During his playing days at UNC, [autotag]Vince Carter[/autotag] shined and transitioned into a jumping highlight reel during his NBA playing career, but did he reach his full potential?

Former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas shared his belief that Carter should have been in the greatest of all-time conversation because he had the ability of all the greats. Arenas claims that Carter is not in the GOAT debate due to his mentality and approach to the game.

Arenas also felt Carter was “too nice,” as to why he felt Carter did not reach his full career potential. A conversation clip was shared on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter. The clip went viral, shared by numerous sports media outlets, garnering more than 140k views.

It would be an intriguing argument if Carter did leave anything on the table. He did sustain a lengthy playing career(22 seasons), becoming the ultimate role player.

Gilbert Arenas bizarrely trolls Rockets legend Hakeem Olajuwon for training rates

Despite endorsements from the likes of LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, Gilbert Arenas apparently thinks Hakeem Olajuwon’s training workouts are too expensive.

Legendary Houston Rockets center Hakeem Olajuwon is one of the best big men in NBA history, and the Hall of Famer is particularly well regarded for his footwork in and around the low post.

That’s why numerous current stars, most recently two-time MVP and 2021 NBA Finals champion Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, often attempt to work with Olajuwon to improve their games.

“This season, (before) training camp, I have a trip that I’m going to go down to Houston and try to work out with Hakeem Olajuwon,” Antetokounmpo said on the “48 Minutes” podcast. “I love his game and if I can take a few things from his game or learn anything from the few days I’m going to spend with him, it’s going to be a blessing.”

Olajuwon is believed to charge $50,000 for a week of his services, according to past media reports. That price is excessive in the eyes of former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas.

In a light-hearted rant, here’s a sampling of what Arenas had to say about it on his own podcast, “No Chill Gil”:

First of all, who wants to learn a move from somebody who did it in 1990, anyway? He ain’t been good since the 90s. That means any moves from the 2000s, he don’t know. Who (are) you going to do the moves on? (Victor) Wembanyama?

Nobody wants that Hakeem Olajuwon skyhook. You should be ashamed of yourself. Charging these young whippersnappers $50,000. When you came into the league in 1984, you weren’t getting $50,000 a game. You’re trying to make the money back through the youth!

Arenas didn’t explain why he believes Olajuwon’s rates should be relative to salaries 39 years ago, as opposed to today’s figures.

Whatever the case, Olajuwon’s training has received high marks from legends LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, and that’s of greater significance than a bizarre slight by Arenas.

Rashad McCants believes his Lebanese team has a chance against the Nuggets

Social media reacts to Rashad McCants believing his Lebanese team has a chance against current NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

Former North Carolina Tar Heel [autotag]Rashad McCants[/autotag] is back trending on social media after he claimed his former overseas Lebanese team has a chance against current NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

The debate started on the No Chill podcast with Gilbert Arenas with McCants, Josiah Johnson, and Brandon Jennings talking about Noah Lyles’s comments about NBA teams being called world champions.

Arenas aligned with the NBA, having the best players on this planet, fitting the world champion title. Well, McCants felt different about Arenas crowing NBA players the best, sparking a debate on international players vs. those in the NBA.

The hilarious clip garnered significant attention as McCant’s name started to appear in tweets throughout the night. The “We have a chance” comment is funny because it comes on the heels of McCants stating that Gregg Popovich is not a good head coach.

Enough back story: let us look at how social media reacted to McCants believing his Lebanese team has a chance against current NBA champion Denver Nuggets.

Danny Green says the NBA Bubble Championship was the hardest for him

Danny Green picks which NBA championship was the hardest and which ring holds more value on the No Chill podcast with Gilbert Arenas.

Former North Carolina Tar Heel [autotag]Danny Green [/autotag]has carved out an NBA career that has been fruitful in the ring department, but which NBA championship was the hardest?

Green collected three rings during his NBA journey: in 2014 with the San Antonio Spurs, 2019 with the Toronto Raptors, and 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Each team had its unique journey: Spurs taking down the Miami Heat’s big 3, helping Toronto win its first championship, and playing with the Lakers in the bubble without fans.

We now have more insight into what Green felt was the most challenging ring to win in his career after he appeared on former NBA player Gilbert Arenas’s podcast “No Chill.” He talked about his NBA championships, the difficulty level each brought, and which one holds more value to him.

The 14-year vet has had some clutch moments, bringing the experience to the youthful locker room of the Memphis Grizzlies last season.

Steph Curry answers he’s the NBA best point guard ever

Gilbert Arenas recently asked the two-time Most Valuable Player if he’s the best point guard ever.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

In a recent interview with Gilbert Arenas on his podcast “Gil’s Arena,” Steph Curry was asked if he’s the best point guard ever. The Golden State Warriors sharpshooter gave a simple answer: “yes.”

It would have to be yes. It’s me and Magic — that’s the conversation?

Arenas and Curry went on to laugh when discussing his answer. Arenas went on to talk about Curry’s influence at the point guard position. Curry expanded on his answer and the conversation around debating who is the best point guard of all-time.

Obviously, I have to answer it that way. I really feel like — to your point, Magic’s resume is ridiculous. The fact that we’re even having that conversation is a place I never thought I would be in. To your point, how you grade it and the whole conversation — That’s why we have the conversations — because it’s fun measuring eras against each other. I love it. That’s what basketball and sports is all about. That’s why people watch. That’s why people get in heated debates about it. I love it. Put me on my own team, I’m going to rep myself for sure.

While his story isn’t finished, Curry has a decorated resume that features four championships, two MVP awards, an NBA Finals MVP, nine All-Star and nine All-NBA teams appearances. Curry is also the NBA’s all-time leader in made 3-pointers.

When discussing the best point guard in NBA history, Curry’s name is often mentioned along with Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, Oscar Robertson and others. Curry will suit up alongside another all-time great guard and new teammate Chris Paul in the upcoming NBA season.

Gilbert Arenas feels LeBron James’ longevity puts pressure on others

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas said that LeBron James playing well at an advanced age is putting pressure on others that don’t age as well.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

LeBron James will start his 21st NBA season in a couple of months, and the level of production he has shown in his late 30s is unprecedented for a basketball player.

He averaged 28.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists a game this past season while steadying the ship until a couple of midseason trades transformed the Los Angeles Lakers into title contenders. He did so despite dealing with foot ailments for a good portion of the season.

James is seemingly redefining what is possible for athletes that have an insane amount of wear and tear. Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas sees it differently; he believes the four-time MVP is putting pressure on others, especially those that don’t age well.

Via Lakers Daily:

“It just puts so much pressure on people,” Arenas said. “The fact that he’s 39, doing what he’s doing, makes 30 seem like you’re a rookie. Now we have a glimpse of what 38 and 39 is capable of doing, which means when players are looking like they’re slowing down at 31, 32, I don’t know how we accept that anymore.”

James will turn 39 in late December. Still, it likely wouldn’t surprise many people if he put together yet another MVP-caliber campaign this season.

Gilbert Arenas ‘loved’ Ben Simmons trolling 76ers during Game 7 loss to Celtics

Gilbert Arenas “loved” Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons trolling the Philadelphia 76ers during their Game 7 loss to the Boston Celtics.

Ben Simmons had a disappointing 2022-23 season for the Brooklyn Nets thanks to his inconsistency and frequent amount of injuries that eventually ended his season prematurely. Despite not playing, Simmons still made headlines during the 2023 NBA Playoffs as he trolled the Philadelphia 76ers, his former team, as they lost to the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals in embarrassing fashion.

Simmons received a lot of criticism for his Instagram troll job of the 76ers due to how he left Philadelphia in the first place. Simmons, 26, was a 76er for 5.5 seasons after being selected with the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft out of LSU. He did not play in the 2016-17 season due to a foot injury, but from 2017 to 2021, Simmons was a three-time All-Star, won Rookie of the Year, made third-team All-NBA, etc.

However, after the 2021 second-round loss to the Atlanta Hawks, things went downhill for Simmons and his relationship with the organization and fanbase. Most in the NBA space believe that Simmons quit on the franchise and the relationship soured after that which led some fans to still be resentful of Simmons, leading to the flack he caught for his post. Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas said recently on VladTV that he loved Simmons trolling Philadelphia:

“I loved it. Especially for a guy (Simmons) who gets so much heat, but he doesn’t speak, right? He doesn’t say anything, he doesn’t bother anybody. So, for him to finally troll is like alright finally (expletive). Like, you don’t hear nothing from the dude. It’s one of those guys like I can understand the frustration that he had, right? You know, he didn’t play well offensively that series (2021 semi-finals against the Atlanta Hawks), but he played well defensively.”

Gilbert Arenas on Bronny James: ‘He reminds me of a more athletic Jrue Holiday’

Arenas previously worked with Bronny, and the three-time All-Star offered a lofty comparison for the 18-year-old.

Gilbert Arenas had the opportunity to work with Bronny James, and the former three-time NBA All-Star recently offered a lofty comparison for the 18-year-old.

Arenas spent time in the gym with James in 2019 when his father, LeBron, was in his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron reached out to Arenas to have him watch Bronny during his workouts to get another opinion on how he was developing at the time.

The former Washington Wizards star liked what he saw from Bronny in those workouts. He even thought Bronny was more advanced at that age than LeBron in some areas, such as shooting and dribbling. He believes Bronny is also unselfish on the court like LeBron.

Arenas, speaking on the “Dan Patrick Show” on Thursday, said he sees some of Jrue Holiday in Bronny and believes he can perform at a high level in the NBA.

He reminds me of a more athletic Jrue Holiday. He is a very smart kid. … He will be, at his height, a 19-7-7 type of player. He is going to be a lockdown defender. He’ll make big plays when he needs to. He is going to be the perfect second option.

If he gets put on a bad team, and they say you’re going to be the No. 1 option, he has that ability but he is still going to be the guy, like his father: ‘If I have to score 30, I’m going to score 30. But if I see a play for a shooter in the corner at the end of the game, I will make that pass.’ He is more unselfish than LeBron is, too.

Bronny, who is considered a four-star recruit by ESPN, has not publicly stated his intentions for next season, but he is leaning toward playing in college, according to his parents. He apparently has a list of three preferred schools: Ohio State, Oregon and USC.

He turned in a strong senior year at Sierra Canyon High School and saw his ranking with ESPN jump from 35 to 28 in the class of 2023. He is one of only six prospects in the top 100 that have not yet signed with a school for next season.

Bronny has made a considerable jump in each year of high school and appears to be developing into an impact player at the next level. Certainly, drawing a comparison to Holiday, a two-time All-Star, is high praise but if he can continue to improve, the sky will be the limit for him.

Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas discusses Nets’ Ben Simmons’ game

Gilbert Arenas thinks that Ben Simmons isn’t a good shooter because he’s too fast?

Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas played 11 years in the NBA and during that time, he was one of the better players in the game. Known mostly for his days as a Washington Wizard, Arenas averaged 25 points per game during his seven and a half seasons with Washington.

Since he retired, Arenas has been staying around the game as a commentator and podcaster. Arenas has had some strong opinions after his playing career and on Wednesday, he was asked for his opinion on Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons.

As a former guard, Arenas is a good person to talk to with regards to guys who play a similar position to him. Simmons has not had as good of a tenure with the Nets as fans and pundits hoped for and because of that, Simmons has drawn the ire of Nets fans and media. Arenas sat down with Julian Edelman and Sam Morril of the “Games With Names” to discuss Simmons and his game:

“I like the way he (Simmons) plays the game. He just doesn’t do what he can’t do. If he can’t do it, he’s just not gonna do it. Now, I would love playing with a guy who really doesn’t want to shoot like that. A guy who’s just gonna give me the ball the whole time! Can’t say anything bad about that!… You know what’s funny, I’ve watched him train for weeks and he’s a good shooter. Like, he’s actually a good shooter. I sat there and just watched him and I”m looking at his form, looking at his feet, and I’m like ‘what the hell is going on with you, why isn’t it translating to the game?… There’s a certain type of player that just can’t shoot and it’s because of their speed. They’re too fast! It sounds like a weird thing but they’re too fast. If you go through recent history, Jason Kidd – super fast, couldn’t shoot, you’ve got your Westbrooks, you know…They have too much speed and torque so when you try and stop and pull up, it messes up everything.”
