Boston alum Shane Larkin has off night as his Turkey falls to Georgia 88-83 in double overtime

The former Celtics reserve floor general had trouble shooting the ball in EuroBasket play Sunday, and it cost Turkey the game.

Former Boston Celtics floor general Shane Larkin had an egregiously bad shooting day while manning the point for the Turkish National Team on Sunday afternoon. Turkey fell 88-83 to the Georgian National Team in double overtime in part due to the former Miami player’s difficulties putting the proverbial biscuit in the basket.

Larkin put up 9 points, 8 boards, 7 assists and a steal in a game that seemed like nothing was going right for the former Boston point guard. While he did not pick up any personal fouls in the painful loss marred by a fight between teammate Furkan Korkmaz and three Georgian players, Larkin shot 2-of-14 from the field overall and 2-of-10 from 3-point range.

The former Celtic was on the floor for 48:54 of 50 possible minutes of the double-overtime affair.

Ex-Celtics forward Juancho Hernangomez gets 9 points, 7 boards vs. Georgia for Spain in EuroBasket play

Bo Cruz had things under control for Spain on Saturday.

Bo Cruz had things under control in the Spanish National Team’s 90-64 drubbing of the Georgian National Team in EuroBasket play on Saturday, Juancho Hernangomez — the star of the Netflix “Hustle” film in which the Spaniard plays Cruz — helping drive Spain to the win over Georgia.

The former Boston Celtics forward put up 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in 21 minutes of play off of the bench, fouling just once with no turnovers in the game. Hernangomez shot 4-of-9 from the field overall, but went just 1-of-5 from beyond the arc and did not get to the free throw line.

The Madrid native last played for the Celtics in the 2021-22 NBA season, having been traded away to the San Antonio Spurs as part of a three-team deal bringing back Bol Bol and PJ Dozier from the Denver Nuggets near the 2022 NBA trade deadline.

Report: Injured Boston Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari expected to miss training camp, return in November

While far from ideal, this is by far a much better prognosis than many initially feared.

If a recent estimate of when injured Boston Celtics swingman Danilo Gallinari can return to the court pans out, the Celtics and Gallinari will be in excellent position for the start of the 2022-23 NBA season.

Gallinari sustained the injury while playing for the Italian National Team in a FIBA World Cup group stage qualifying game against the Georgian National Team on Saturday. Per Sportando, the injury will keep the Celtics forward off the court “at least two months.” That will, of course, have the Italian missing training camp and the start of the regular season.

But, compared to some of the worst-case scenarios for his meniscal tear (itself a better option than the initially feared re-injury of his left ACL), that’s quite an acceptable alternative to a lost season or a career-ending injury.

Gallinari has not played for Boston yet after signing a two-year, $12.3 million contract with the Celtics this summer. With this news, fears he might never play for them should subside.

Danilo Gallinari Italy highlights: Boston Celtics forward gets 17 and 4 vs. Georgia before injury

The Italian swingman was especially efficient Saturday before he went down injured.

He might have left the game with an injury late in the fourth quarter of his Italian National Team’s 91-84 victory over the Georgian National Team in FIBA World Cup group stage qualifying, but veteran Boston Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari left his mark.

While he will miss the upcoming EuroBasket tournament and be sidelined with a meniscal tear for some time, Gallo put up 17 points, 4 rebounds, an assist and a block in 15 minutes of floor time. He picked up a personal foul and committed one turnover.

The Italian swingman was especially efficient Saturday, hitting 6-of-7 of his field goal attempts, including his sole attempt from beyond the arc.

If you want to see how he was playing before the injury, check out the clip embedded above courtesy of the Bllen YouTube channel, but be advised, his injury is near the end — you might want to cut it a bit short if that sort of thing is not your cup of tea.

Get well soon, Gallinari!

Shams: Boston Celtics swingman Danilo Gallinari suffers meniscal tear in left knee

While not ideal, it is described as the ‘best case’ outcome and could take weeks to months to see Gallo back on the court.

Boston Celtics veteran forward Danilo Gallinari appears to have dodged a major injury.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the injured swingman has a meniscal tear in his left knee. He suffered the non-contact injury in the fourth quarter of the Italian National Team’s World Cup group stage qualifying game against the Georgian National Team on Saturday.

Immediately after the Celtics forward limped off the court, there were concerns the injury might be to the same ACL that Gallinari already had operated on. However, word soon came that his ligaments seemed stable, and the MRI reportedly showed no ligament damage. Charania called the outcome the “best case” scenario for Gallo and the Celtics.

The Italian will miss EuroBasket 2022, and there is no timetable for when he might return to the court for the Celtics.

Such injuries can take weeks or months to recover from. We saw the best-case scenario play out for fellow Boston frontcourt player Robert Williams III this past postseason.

Danilo Gallinari ACL reportedly appears stable; vet Boston Celtics guard will get MRI to confirm

Gallo appeared to injure his knee in an Italian National Team contest vs. Georgia.

While it is too soon to say for certain, The Athletic’s Shams Charania is reporting that Danilo Gallinari’s ACL in his left knee appears to be stable after analysis by the Italian National Team medical staff. The Boston Celtics veteran forward Danilo Gallinari is scheduled to get an MRI on his injured knee Sunday.

If the report is true, the Celtics and the Italian team dodged a massive bullet after Gallinari went down in the fourth quarter of a FIBA World Cup qualifier against the Georgian National Team on Saturday in an apparent non-contact injury. Gallinari previously tore his ACL. Per Sportando’s Emilio Carchia, Gianmarco Pozzecco, the coach of Gallo’s Italian National Team, lamented the injury.

“With him, we could have won EuroBasket, but I am not sorry for that,” he offered. “I am sorry because he may not play a tournament he deserves to play.”

“I think we have realized that we can no longer go on like this (on too many contests),” he added. “I hope that from tomorrow we start protecting the players”

Vet Boston Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari goes down late in Italy-Georgia FIBA qualifier with apparent knee injury

Fingers crossed Gallo dodges serious injury here.

Boston Celtics veteran forward Danilo Gallinari exited a FIBA World Cup qualifying game with what appeared to be a serious knee injury, per Sporteando’s Emiliano Carchia. The game, pitting his Italian National Team against the Georgian national team, may have seen both Italy’s and the Celtics’ ambitions on the court take a serious hit should the injury be serious.

Gallinari went down injured late in the contest’s final frame, and at present no details are available about the severity of the issue with Gallinari’s knee, but images captured from the play in question were not promising.

The Italian forward joined the Celtics as a free agent on a mini- midlevel exception and is hoped to be a significant part of their postseason push to return to the 2023 NBA Finals.

While the team can weather his absence for an extended period without serious risks to their title hopes if he is able to play this season, the boost he would be hoped to add during the regular season would take a hit if he missed considerable time.

Fingers crossed Gallinari dodges a bullet here in an offseason that has already seen a player lost for all of next season for play in non-NBA contexts after the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Chet Holmgren is to miss 2022-23 after a ligament injury in the CrawsOver Pro-Am.
