Georgia Tech coach Brent Key ‘nothing I hate more’ than Georgia football

Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key, recently said, “There’s nothing I hate more in the world (than Georgia football).”

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key has brought Georgia Tech back to respectability. In 2023, the Yellow Jackets went 7-6 and won a bowl game for the first time since 2016, which was the last time that Georgia Tech defeated Georgia.

Key and Georgia Tech challenged Georgia in 2023. The Yellow Jackets lost 31-23 and were close to getting a chance to tie up the game.

“There’s nothing I hate more in the world,” said Key when asked about Georgia football at a recent alumni event. “It’s probably the only thing I actually hate. When I say hate, like, truly despise everything about it. I really do.”

Not only did Georgia Tech fall to Georgia on the field, but the Bulldogs also took a key member of Georgia Tech’s coaching staff this offseason. Key, who played college football for Georgia Tech, clearly has not gotten over Georgia’s eight-point win over the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta last year.

“Three minutes and 31 seconds with three timeouts left, we’re down by eight. Muff the onside kick, get (UGA) to third-and-3, they run a toss sweep out of the bunch formation to the boundary,” said Key. “(Georgia Tech linebacker) Kyle Efford is about two inches away from making the tackle.”

“I think about it every day,” continued Key. “(Efford) thinks about it every day. We talk about it every day.”

There’s no doubt that Georgia Tech has Black Friday circled on its calendar. The Yellow Jackets always have the goal of beating Georgia. Georgia Tech’s improvement does not mean much if the Yellow Jackets can’t conquer their biggest rival.

New tradition? Georgia reportedly facing Georgia Tech on Black Friday

The Georgia Bulldogs are reportedly scheduled to host Georgia Tech in Athens on Black Friday this November. Will this be a new Thanksgiving week tradition?

The Georgia Bulldogs are finding out more and more about their 2024 college football schedule. Georgia is reportedly scheduled to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Black Friday, which is Nov. 29.

The Georgia-Georgia Tech game will be televised on ABC in primetime at 7:30 p.m. ET. Georgia Tech has not defeated Georgia since 2016, but the Yellow Jackets gave Georgia a scare in 2023. Last season, Georgia won at Georgia Tech, 31-23, in a game that was much closer than expected.

Georgia will host Georgia Tech in Athens in the 2024 edition of Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate. The Bulldogs have won 19 of the last 22 games in the in-state rivalry dating back to 2000.

One benefit of playing Georgia Tech on Black Friday would be more time to prepare for the SEC championship game. Head coach Kirby Smart loves any advantage he can get over the opposition. However, with the SEC expanding to 16 teams, it will no longer be as easy for Georgia to advance to the SEC championships game.

Georgia is already scheduled to have five games televised on ABC this fall. The 2024 season should be a fun one.

“It’s a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency. It is a predictive measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football, not a résumé ranking. Along those same lines, these projections aren’t intended to be a guess at what the AP Top 25 will look like at the end of the season. These are simply early offseason power rankings based on the information we have been able to gather to date.”

Straightforward and to the point, these are power rankings based on what we know right now. So, how do Clemson and the rest of the ACC stack up in the first SP+ rankings for 2024? Check it out below.

Former Tiger is back in the transfer portal

Another former Tiger has reentered the transfer portal.

The transfer portal continues to be a massive part of college football, and another former Tiger has reentered his name back into it.

Former Clemson offensive lineman Paul Tchio took to social media to announce that he is back in the transfer portal. He transferred to Georgia Tech from Clemson following the 2021 season, and his time with the Yellow Jackets has come to an end.

Tchio is a former four-star recruit out of Milton (Ga.) High School, who appeared in 14 games and made one start with the Tigers. According to 247Sports rankings, Thcio was the No.3 guard and the No.96 overall player in the 2020 class.

Update: Former Mississippi State TE Ryland Goede has cancelled his visit to Texas A&M

Former Mississippi State TE Ryland Goede has reportedly canceled his College Station visit and will instead transfer to Georgia Tech.

This coming weekend, Texas A&M is set to host a bevy of potential transfer portal additions, and according to early reports, former Mississippi State tight end Ryland Goede was slated to that list, but late Thursday night, Rivals’ Russell Johnson announced that Goede had canceled his visit to College Station. He will instead transfer to Georgia Tech for the 2024 season.

Appearing in 11 games, including seven starts this season, Goede failed to record any receiving statistics until reeling in his first catch for 18 yards, which would end up being his only grab in his Bulldogs career. Mainly working as an inline blocker, Goede’s 6’6″, 260-pound frame still provides enormous potential in the passing game in the right system.

The Aggies will lose three tight ends going into the 2024 season, including Jake Johnson and Fernando Garza III, who recently entered the transfer portal, and senior Max Wright, who has used up his eligibility.

With sophomore TE Donovan Green deemed to return after sustaining a season-ending injury just weeks before the 2023 season, Goede’s experience paired with new OC Collin Klein’s offensive game plan would have been a perfect match, but congratulations to Georgia Tech for reeling in a big-time talent.
