Georgia golf sets PGA Tour record

UGA golf now holds the record for the most players from one college to qualify for the FedExCup Playoffs.

University of Georgia golf has absolutely dominated professional golf this year.

The Bulldogs lead all colleges with four PGA Tour wins this season, hold 35 titles since 2010 – the most by any school in that time span – and have 10  golfers in this year’s FedExCup Playoffs, the most players from one college to ever qualify for the playoffs in the same season.

Kevin Kisner is the most recent Bulldog to win on tour, securing a playoff victory at the Wyndham Championship last week, the final tournament of the regular season.

Legendary UGA coach Chris Haack, who’s been at the helm since 1996, tweeted his appreciation for his former players.

The 10 former Bulldogs now begin preparations for the playoffs, which starts with the Northern Trust on Aug. 19-22 and ends with the Tour Championship in Atlanta on Sept. 2-5.

Greensboro, North Carolina, is the home of the Wyndham Championship. The PGA Tour event was held at the Sedgefield Country Club.

Kevin Kisner’s win marked the third time in PGA Tour history that a playoff featured six golfers. Kisner scored birdies on three of his final five holes to win the tournament. All six golfers (Adam Scott, Roger Sloan, Si Woo Kim, Kevin Na and Branden Grace) scored par on the first playoff hole. Kisner won the event when he scored a birdie on the second playoff hole.

The victory is a perfect way to cap a solid the regular season for Kisner, who ended the season playing some of his best golf. Kisner will compete in the FedEx Cup Playoffs as the No. 29 golfer.

Kevin Kisner’s Wyndham Championship triumph is his fourth career PGA Tour win. Kisner improved to 1-5 in his career in playoff events.

Travelers Championship: UGA golf Alum Harris English wins in dramatic fashion

Travelers Championship: UGA golf Alum Harris English wins in dramatic fashion

The Georgia golf program had a fantastic showing at the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship this past week.

11 Bulldogs took the course at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn. After three rounds, former Georgia standout Bubba Watson held a share of the lead and seven other UGA products were in the top 30, including Kevin Kisner, Russel Henley and Harris English, who were all in the top-five headed into Sunday’s final round.

Watson held the lead for most of the afternoon before losing it to Harris English after a bogey on hole No. 14. English finished at 7-under 65 with the help of a huge birdie on No. 18 and headed to the clubhouse as the leader at 13-under.

English watched Texas alum Kramer Hickok battle back and finish with a share of the lead, which then forced a sudden-death playoff between Hickok and English and that’s where the fun really began.

English and Hickok battled for eight holes before English finally sealed a win with a 20-foot birdie putt on the 8th playoff hole. Both had chances to win in the earlier playoff holes, but English’s last birdie gave him his second win of the season, bumped him to second on the Fed Ex Cup points list and marked the longest playoff in Travelers Championship history.

English, 31, now has four victories on the PGA Tour and Georgia golf products have won 34 PGA titles since 2010. The most by any college in that time span.

Here’s where each Dawg stacked up on the leaderboard at the Travelers:

1. Harris English (-13)

T5. Brian Harman, Kevin Kisner (-10)

T10. Sepp Straka (-9)

T19. Russell Henley, Bubba Watson (-7)

T30. Brendon Todd (-5)

You can catch the former Bulldogs next at the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club on July 1-4 on the Golf Channel and CBS Network.

Two former Bulldogs in contention at The Players Championship

Two former Georgia bulldogs are at the top of the leaderboard in Sunday’s final round of The Players Championship on NBC.

Former Georgia golf alums Brian Harmon and Chris Kirk are high on the leaderboard of The Players Championship headed into Sunday’s final round.

Harmon is currently tied for fifth at 9-under par and just 4 shots behind leader Lee Westwood at 13-under-par through three rounds.

The Savannah, Ga., native was a three-time 2nd team All-American selection at Georgia before turning pro in 2009. Harmon is through the first hole and is even-par on the day so far. Harmon finished tied for 8th at The Players Championship in 2015 and 2019.

Kirk is currently tied for 13th at 7-under-par and 6 shots off the leader Westwood. The Knoxville, Tenn., native is one stroke over par on the day through two holes. Kirk’s best finishes at The Players Championship were in 2013 and 2015, where he tied for 13th and in 2017, he finished tied for 12th.

Georgia has always been well represented on Tour and Harmon and Kirk are just the latest examples. UGA had 10 players in the field of The Players Championship this week and now two find themselves in contention on a beautiful Sunday in Palm Valley, Florida.

You can catch the final round live on NBC right now.
