Georgia  at South Carolina picks and predictions

Prediction

Georgia 37 South Carolina 7

Money line

PASS. The money line is far too high to make a wager.

Against the spread

Play GEORGIA -24.5 (-108) in this one.

Georgia is the defending national champion. They could be even better this season.

Giving up only 3 points in 2 games this season, the Georgia defense is as dominant as last season. The offense is even better under the leadership of second-year starter Bennett.

For South Carolina, Rattler has not lived up to the hype he was given when he transferred in from Oklahoma. This does not seem like the week for him to get on track.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 51-5 (-105).

Georgia came into the season with something to prove in Week 1. They did so by putting up 49 points on an overmatched Oregon team. While this output is certainly possible again, South Carolina still might not score enough for this game to go over. Either take the under in this game or pass on making a wager.

Georgia at South Carolina: Three things to know

  1. Georgia has been shaky of late. The Bulldogs squeaked by Mississippi State last week 31-24 as 26.5-point favorites. The week prior, they lost by 16 points to then-No. 8 Florida.
  2. South Carolina went into Athens and beat Georgia in double overtime 20-17 last season as a 20.5-point road underdog. Will Muschamp was South Carolina’s head coach then. He was fired earlier this month after a 59-42 loss to Ole Miss.
  3. The Gamecocks promoted offensive coordinator Mike Bobo to interim head coach. He lost his debut at home against Missouri 17-10 last week as South Carolina failed to cover as a 4.5-point underdog.

Georgia at South Carolina: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Georgia 38, South Carolina 14

Money line (ML)

PASS. South Carolina’s program is in flux. It upset then-No.3 Georgia last season, which makes for a bad combination if you’re looking at the dog. No one should ever risk more than three times your potential return, let alone 12-plus times, on any side in most college football conference games.

Against the spread (ATS)

Now that Georgia QB JT Daniels is fully recovered from a torn ACL, the Bulldogs pass game could take off. Daniels balled in his first start as a Bulldog after transferring to the program from USC, completing 28 of 38 passes for 401 yards, 4 touchdowns and no picks in last week’s win vs. Mississippi State.

Plus, South Carolina’s pass defense is getting torched this year: 111th in opponent’s completion percentage, 116th in opponent’s yards per pass and 98th in sack rate.

I only lean GEORGIA -21.5 (-106) for a half-unit because the backdoor should be wide open for the Gamecocks if the Bulldogs (2-5 ATS) are rolling early. Don’t get me wrong, South Carolina’s offensive is awful, but Georgia gave up 24 last week to an even worse Mississippi State offense.

Over/Under (O/U)

I “LIKE” OVER 49.5 (-110) for 1 unit. Daniels is an upgrade over the previous Georgia starting quarterback and he’s got weapons to throw to in WRs Kearis Jackson and George Pickens.

Also, doesn’t South Carolina just go bleep-it mode against Georgia? The Gamecocks are 2-6 and playing under an interim head coach who used to be the offensive coordinator. Maybe Bobo dials up some trick plays that connect for South Carolina’s offense?

Even if Georgia tramples South Carolina, the Over could cash. It doesn’t need to be a back-and-forth game to win this bet.
