Cincinnati 24, Notre Dame 13 Reaction

Let’s save all of the College Football Playoff talk for the next two months and start with this.

Cincinnati did what it had to do.

We’ll absolutely argue about whether or not the Bearcat schedule and overall body of work will be worthy of the final four – if the team goes unscathed – but it went on the road and beat Indiana, and it went on the road to beat a Notre Dame team coming off the buzz of the win over Wisconsin.

The Bearcats didn’t run all that well, but they got the hard yards when needed against the great Notre Dame defensive front. Desmond Ridder wasn’t perfect, but he didn’t throw any picks and he hit the downfield throws the Irish couldn’t connect on.

There were two turnovers, and the problems on third down will be a big deal if there really is an important showdown at some point, but they held up once the Irish had a little momentum in the second half, the American Athletic Conference lines held up, and the program proved it could win a game like this with everyone watching and all the pressure on its shoulders.

Give it a few days to breathe. Let the program enjoy the moment, and then the CFP spotlight is on.

Georgia vs Arkansas Game Preview

Why Arkansas Will Win

This isn’t a perfect team, but it’s been almost flawless so far for what it wants to do. More to the point, it won’t buckle in a game like this. This showdown won’t be a high-flying fun show, but as the Hogs showed against Texas A&M, that’s fine.

Arkansas runs well, hits the big play down the field, controls games defensively on third downs, and wins the turnover battle.

Georgia has given it up seven times in the first four games. Arkansas needs to come up with a few takeaways and capitalize on them all. The defense has to hold on and match the Dawg side big stop for big stop.

Georgia might lead the nation in total defense, but Arkansas hasn’t allowed more than 255 yards in any of the last three games.

Week 5 College Football Expert Picks

Why Georgia Will Win

The Bulldog defense is special – it allowed 23 points so far against Clemson, two SEC teams, and a UAB squad that might win the Conference USA title – but the offensive side is getting it done, too.

South Carolina might not be great, but it has a defense. UAB’s D is solid, and Vanderbilt is … uh … Vanderbilt plays in the SEC. The Dawg O came up with over 1,500 yards and 158 in those three games.

It starts with a line that’s not allowing anything to happen in the backfield, giving JT Daniels and Stetson Bennett plenty of time to work. Those two combined so far to hit almost 75% of their passes with 11 touchdowns.

Yes, Arkansas has been phenomenal so far, but it there’s a problem with penalties, the return game isn’t anything great, and the O isn’t good enough on third downs.

It’s going to have to be flawless to pull this off.

Week 5 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

Arkansas is for real.

KJ Jefferson could stand to be more accurate, but he’s a big-time playmakers who’s making up for his inconsistencies with the big plays. He’ll get to Georgia for one home run, but that should be about it.

Yeah, Arkansas is for real, but Georgia might be the No. 1 team in the country.

The defense will keep the dynamic playmakers in the Hog backfield from taking off, and the secondary will keep the downfield passing game under wraps.

With some due respect to the talented Texas quarterbacks, Arkansas hasn’t faced high-end passing quarterback – Rice and Georgia Southern don’t throw well enough, and Texas A&M’s Zach Calzada is just okay so far.

JT Daniels might not be 100%, but he’ll do enough to give the Arkansas secondary a rough day. The D will take care of the rest.

Why Georgia Will Win

It doesn’t matter who the starting quarterback is, or if there’s some sort of a rotation between JT Daniels, D’Wan Mathis and Stetson Bennett, the receivers are in place for new OC Todd Monken to make the whole thing go.

Arkansas might have a nice young group of defensive backs for new DC Barry Odom to work with, but there won’t be enough of a pass rush, and the offense is going to start pushing it deep a bit more than last year.

The running game will own the game early, though. There won’t be a whole lot of fancy things happening on the road, with the goal to be a good balance, few mistakes, and a reliance on a defense that should come up with a whole lot of three-and-outs.

Week 4 Expert Picks: College Football

Why Arkansas Will Win

Will the Kendal Briles offense work? New head coach Sam Pittman wants to speed up the offense and bring a whole lot of pace, but that was the case under the previous regime, and it didn’t work. These Hogs have the parts, starting with Florida transfer QB Feleipe Franks and a passing game that should be a whole lot more dangerous than it’s been in a long, long time.

Rakeem Boyd might be the best running back in the game, the Hogs are loaded with wide receiver experience, and at home under a new coaching staff, there’s going to be a whole lot of fun trying to get it all going.

The Hogs are expected to go winless this season. Let’s just say there’s a chip on this team’s shoulder.

Week 3 Expert Picks: NFL

What’s Going To Happen

The Arkansas system might be dangerous, and there might be experience and good parts in place, but the problem with the sped up attack is that when it doesn’t work, it gets the O off the field in a hurry – and that was the problem last year, too.

The Georgia offense won’t be slow-and-go, but it’ll be deliberate enough to control the clock and the pace of the game to be in control throughout.
