The Big Cat is back and in new apparel.

The Big Cat is back.

Tiger Woods, for the first time since the Masters last April, will play in an official PGA Tour event. Yes, he played a few times in December at the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship, but this time, it’s the real deal.

The Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, is the PGA Tour’s third signature event of the year, and thanks to its elevated status, the field is loaded. Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Max Homa, Viktor Hovland, Jordan Spieth and dozens of other stars will tee it up come Thursday morning.

In 14 starts at Riviera, Woods is winless. His best finish came in 1999 when he was the runner-up. At last year’s Genesis, Woods made the cut and eventually tied for 45th.

On Monday, Woods announced his new life-style apparel brand in collaboration with TaylorMade, “Sun Day Red.”

This week will be the first time he wears the clothes in competition.

Here are some of the best photos of Tiger at the Genesis Invitational.

Will the year of the longshot continue in LA?

A stacked field is in Los Angeles for the PGA Tour’s third signature event of the year, the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club.

Although world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa and Justin Thomas will tee it up Thursday, all eyes will be on Tiger Woods.

Woods hasn’t played an official Tour event since the Masters last spring but did play a few times in December at the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship.

The 15-time major winner spent Monday night announcing his new apparel line, Sun Day Red.

Although the best players in the world are set to do battle in LA, there are several sleepers to keep an eye on.

Riviera Country Club – one of the highest-ranked courses on the PGA Tour schedule each season – was designed by George C. Thomas and William P. Bell and opened in 1927 in Pacific Palisades, California. It hosts the 2024 Genesis Invitational this week.

Riviera will play to 7,322 yards with a par of 71 for the Genesis Invitational.

The layout ranks No. 4 in California on Golfweek’s Best list of private courses in each state, and it’s No. 18 among all classic courses built before 1960 in the U.S.

Besides hosting the Tour each year, Riviera will be the site of the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open and the 2032 U.S. Open, as well as hosting the 2028 Olympic Golf competition.

Woods last played at the PNC Championship in December, after finishing 18th at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. His last official Tour start came at the Masters last April.

Charley Hoffman plays way into 2024 Genesis Invitational after Tiger Woods denied his sponsor invite request

“I want to kick all these young guys’ butts, believe me,” Hoffman said after his WM Phoenix Open playoff loss.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Charley Hoffman lost in a playoff on Sunday at the WM Phoenix but he did earn a consolation prize.

Hoffman’s second-place finish, his 10th runner-up in 495 PGA Tour starts, earned him 300 FedEx Cup points and a total of 315.65 in the Aon Swing 5, good for fourth place. The top five players not otherwise exempt who earned the most FedEx Cup points from the Sony Open in Hawaii through the WM Phoenix Open qualify for this week’s Genesis Invitational via the Aon Swing 5.

When Hoffman was informed by a Tour media official at the end of his post-playoff press conference, he said, “Did it? That’s awesome. I’m excited about that. I guess I’m playing next week and not going skiing.”

Hoffman, who is playing this season on a one-time exemption for being top 50 on the Tour’s career money list, said he was planning a family ski trip for a few days to Mammoth Mountain in California.

“I guess we’re going to have to change those plans,” said Hoffman. He noted that he asked Tiger Woods, who he served alongside on the PGA Tour policy board as a player director, for a sponsor’s invite to the Genesis Invitational. Tiger’s foundation runs the event and is the chief beneficiary. Tiger gave one of the four exemptions to himself. “He said, ‘They’re all taken,’ so I said, ‘I’ll play my way in,’ so I guess I did,” Hoffman said.

Hard to top showing up at Tiger’s tourney at Riviera having done just that, but Hoffman made it clear that he feels there is more left in the tank at age 47 and in his 19th season on Tour.

“I want to kick all these young guys’ butts, believe me,” he said. “I sit back and I want to beat them. I want to be in these Signature Events. I want to be one of the best in the world again. If I’m healthy I can compete, and I want to show these guys I’ve still got it.”

Here’s a look at the Aon Swing 5 standings.

Player Aon Swing 5 WMPO FedExCup Points
Matthieu Pavon 1 DNP 598.563
Grayson Murray 2 MC 500
Christiaan Bezuidenhout 3 T28 323.955
Charley Hoffman 4 2nd 315.65
Kevin Yu 5 MC 236.667
Justin Thomas 6 T12 205.667

Tiger Woods highlights signature event field for PGA Tour’s 2024 Genesis Invitational

The GOAT is back.

For the first time since the 2023 Masters, Tiger Woods will play in an official PGA Tour event.

Woods, who last played at the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, back in December, is in the field for next week’s 2024 Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, the third signature event of the year.

The 15-time major winner played at Riv last season, making the cut and eventually tying for 45th.

Thanks to its elevated status, the field is absolutely loaded. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and Max Homa will all join the GOAT in Los Angeles. And unlike other signature events, the Genesis will have a 36-hole cut (top 50 and ties, players within 10 shots of the lead).

The total purse is $20 million with $4 million slated to go to the winner.

Riviera is a par-71 track measuring 7,322 yards.

Reigning champion Jon Rahm is unable to pursue back-to-back titles thanks to his move to LIV Golf.

The field will be finalized after the WM Phoenix Open.

Tiger Woods commits to play 2024 Genesis Invitational at Riviera

“Excited to be a playing host next week.”

Tiger Woods will make his first PGA Tour start of 2024 next week at the Genesis Invitational.

The 15-time major champion took to social media Wednesday morning and announced he’ll be teeing it up alongside the game’s best at Riviera Country Club.

“Excited to be a playing host next week,” his post read.

In 14 starts at Riv, Tiger has made 10 cuts and finished inside the top 25 eight times (three of which were top 10s). His best outing came in 1999 when he finished second.

Tiger last played alongside his son Charlie at the PNC Championship in Orlando in December. His last official Tour start was the 2023 Masters.

The Genesis Invitational is the third signature event of 2024, but unlike the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, it will feature a 36-hole cut. The total purse is $20 million with $4 million going to the winner.

Tiger Woods teases announcement coming Monday of Genesis Invitational

What does Tiger have up his sleeve?

You had our curiosity, Tiger. Now you have our attention.

When Tiger Woods speaks, people listen. When he posts on social media, people react. His latest post, which came Tuesday morning, was a tease to what one can guess is a big announcement coming Monday of the Genesis Invitational, Woods’ event and the final of five on the PGA Tour’s West Coast Swing at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.

“The vision remains the same. 2.12.24” the post reads.

But what is it in reference to? It could be a multitude of things, including a tease at what Woods’ next clothing brand will be.

Nike and Tiger split as partners after 27 years last month. Since then, there has been plenty of speculation about what apparel Woods will don when he tees it up next, which is expected next week. Some of the speculation relates to a trademark filing “Sunday Red” from TaylorMade.

There are no logos visible in the image posted to social media, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see the announcement have something to do with apparel.

Next week is expected to be Woods’ first time playing since the Hero World Challenge in December, where he finished 18th out of 20 players at even par for the week.

Tiger Woods ends 27-year relationship with Nike, hints at return to play at Genesis Invitational

Woods: “I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world.”

Tiger Woods did little to dispel rumors that his longtime relationship with Nike could be nearing an end at the recent PNC Championship.

“I’m still wearing their product,” Woods said when asked to clarify his relationship with the brand.

On Monday the 15-time major champion took to social media to announce the end of his 27-year relationship with Nike and to thank founder Phil Knight.

“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world. The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever,” Woods wrote. “Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way. People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter. See you in LA!”

MORE: Tiger Woods’ golf equipment through the years

Woods is the tournament host of the upcoming Genesis Invitational, Feb. 15-18, at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, a west Los Angeles neighborhood. The 82-time winner on Tour previously said he wished to play one event a month.

Woods has been a brand ambassador for Nike since 1996 when he was 20 years old. Knight signed Woods to a five-year, $40 million deal when he turned pro following his third consecutive win at the U.S. Amateur, and said of Woods at the time, “The world has not seen anything like what he’s going to do for the sport. It’s almost art. I wasn’t alive to see Claude Monet paint, but I am alive to see Tiger play, and that’s pretty great.”

Nike Golf apparel became a leading brand thanks to Woods and its spikeless footwear grew in popularity. Its equipment division, however, never took off and stopped producing clubs and balls in 2016. Woods has been using TaylorMade clubs and Bridgestone golf balls in recent years. For nearly two years, he’s been wearing golf shoes made by FootJoy. TaylorMade, which formerly was owned by Adidas, has hinted on its website that it intends to step up its involvement in the apparel space starting next year.

Several of its club endorsers – from Rory McIlroy to Scottie Scheffler – also wear Nike Golf clothing when they play, although Jason Day no longer does, as he started the year in new gear from Malbon.
