Gary Payton II listed as probable for Warriors ahead of Spurs game

Gary Payton II could make his return from injury in the Golden State Warriors game against the San Antonio Spurs.

The Golden State Warriors are getting a much-needed boost to their roster. Gary Payton II, who has missed the past three games due to injury, is listed as “probable” for Golden State’s game against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday (Nov. 24.)

Golden State has struggled throughout November and will come into the contest looking to bounce back from their loss to the Phoenix Suns. Payton II brings energy and explosiveness to the second unit and can be relied upon to put maximum effort on both sides of the court. He has played in 12 games so far, averaging 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist, shooting 45.3% from the field and 34.6% from 3-point range.

Nevertheless, Steve Kerr will likely be grateful to have another member of his rotation back in the fold, putting the Warriors closer to a full-strength lineup.

The game is scheduled for 10 PM Eastern Time and will take place at the Chase Center. Whether Payton II is part of the rotation will remain to be seen.

Gary Payton II lauds Chris Paul’s early impact for Warriors roster

Gary Payton II believes Chris Paul’s addition to the Golden State Warriors has made a significant impact on both ends of the floor.

Chris Paul‘s addition to the Golden State Warriors roster is already paying dividends. The veteran ball-handler has made a significant impact on his new team, both on the court and in the locker room. On Oct. 30, Paul came off the bench for the second straight game and helped lead a second unit with two rookie contributors playing heavy minutes.

After the game, Gary Payton II praised the impact Paul has had since being acquired in the summer. The seven-year veteran credited his new teammate’s defensive qualities and ability to be a locker-room leader and floor general.

“It’s Chris Paul, you can probably throw him into any team in the league, and he’ll help,” Payton II said. “He does what he does. He’s a leader. Playmaker, gets teams organized. He’s defensive-minded; that’s what I like about him. Me and him just talked about defense. And, young guys follow. Moses has been in the passing lanes and what not. … On the other side, you know what to do, run out and look for the guys you need to look for.”

Paul’s addition has given the Warriors an elite guard rotation. Being able to bring a future Hall of Fame talent, who is also one of the best guards in the NBA, off the bench is a huge luxury that no other team in the league can match.

When Paul headed to the Bay Area, there was no question about what he could bring to the Warriors rotation from a basketball standpoint. It was whether he would buy into a potential bench role.

Early signs indicate Paul is willing to do whatever it takes to win a championship, especially in the final stages of his career. His best chance at adding a ring to his resume is by being a team player. So far, everything is trending in the right direction.

Watch: Gary Payton II discusses difficulties in guarding Steph Curry

The Golden State Warriors guard hilariously details the difficulties in stopping Steph Curry.

Every player in the NBA has a story about trying to slow Steph Curry. The Golden State Warriors star has a reputation for being one of the most difficult players to keep in check. Curry’s non-stop movement, elite shot-making and crafty changes of speed are factors in his ability to create space and generate shooting opportunities for himself or his teammates.

No players understand Curry’s greatness more than those who dealt with him day in and day out in Golden State’s practice sessions. A recent video clip of Gary Payton II and Jonathan Kuminga discussing their difficulty containing the four-time NBA champion has surfaced on social media.

Payton can be heard discussing Curry’s greatness. He notes how no other player in the NBA boasts the star guard’s skills regarding movement and shooting ability. Usually, it’s either one or the other. Payton then watches Curry hit a difficult shot before jokingly stating he “can’t stand” Curry.
