The Atlanta Braves have inked a former Auburn Tiger to a minor league deal.
[autotag]Garrett Cooper[/autotag], who played two seasons at Auburn from 2011-13, is heading to Atlanta on a minor league deal. The 2025 season will be the 9th professional season for Cooper.
Cooper broke into the majors as a first baseman in 2017 with the New York Yankees, where he played in 13 games and recorded six RBI. He then went to Miami, where he spent 5 1/2 seasons in the Marlins organization. As a Marlin, he hit 52 home runs and drove in 201 runs while hitting at a .269 clip.
Since 2023, he has played with three different teams. He was traded to San Diego midway through the 2023 season and then signed with the Chicago Cubs ahead of the 2024 season. After playing 12 games on the “northside”, Cooper signed with the Boston Red Sox, where he registered five RBI in 24 games.
He brings a .265 batting average with 57 home runs and 233 RBI to the Atlanta Braves organization. As an Auburn Tiger, he hit 12 home runs and drove home 68 runs while hitting .339. He held the team’s leading average (.354) in 2013 and walked a team-high 37 times.
