Black Stripe Alert! Ohio State offensive lineman Gabe VanSickle sheds black stripe

Welcome to the Brotherhood #GoBucks

It’s been a long time waiting, but offensive lineman Gabe VanSickle has finally shed his black stripe. VanSickle was welcomed to the Brotherhood on Wednesday afternoon.

VanSickle hails from Coopersville, Michigan, and was a four-star prospect according to 247Sports composite rankings. Ohio State got in on the action late as VanSickle was originally committed to Northwestern. However, once the Buckeyes offered, there seemed to be a change of heart and VanSickle flipped his commitment to Ohio State on Thanksgiving of 2023.

Director of Player Development C.J. Barnett called VanSickle a hard worker, saying he’s “a super athletic guy” and “a big man with a six-pack.” Sounds like a winning combination.

After the injury to Josh Simmons, depth could be a concern on the offensive line. OSU will need to develop the backups in case of emergency.

VanSickle becomes the 13th member from the freshman class to lose his black stripe.

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Gabe VanSickle

Ohio State football recruiting scouting report: Gabe VanSickle #GoBucks

Ohio State football had another dominant recruiting class and landed a consensusย top-five class in the country. Once again, the class features serious star power and was able to snag some amazing talent on the offensive side of the ball including an intriguing interior offensive lineman from the state of Michigan.

Name: Gabe VanSickle

High School: Coopersville (Coopersville, MI)

Height: 6 feet, 5 inches

Weight: 283 pounds

Position: Interior Offensive lineman

Strengths

Gabe VanSickle is an extremely versatile prospect as he started at tackle for his high school, but is expected to play on the interior while at Ohio State. He should be able to contribute at any of the five spots on the offensive line. VanSickle loves to create chaos at the second level, and I always love a lineman who looks for work. He also likes to finish his blocks strong and put his opponent in the dirt.

Rivalry week! Ohio State grabs four-star Gabe VanSickle from Michigan

Gabe VanSickle committed to Ohio State on Thanksgiving.

Gabe VanSickle certainly has a flair for the dramatic. A standout offensive lineman from Michigan, VanSickle committed to Ohio State on Thanksgiving.

That’s right…a kid from Michigan committed to Ohio State during the same week that the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines host the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes. Young brother has ice water in his veins because this is just cold.

A four-star recruit (according to On3), VanSickle had been committed to Northwestern since mid-May. But earlier in the week, VanSickle opened up his recruitment.

Two days later, he was committing to Ohio State. He is a 6-foot-5 offensive lineman who plays at Coopersville (Coopersville, Michigan).

VanSickle made his announcement on Thanksgiving via social media:

He held Power Five offers from Northwestern and Ohio State as well as Indiana. He also had offers from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.

According to On3, he is the No. 253 recruit in the nation.

Ohio State football gets a Thanksgiving offensive line commitment

A BOOM! with your turkey on Thanksgiving

The smoke about Michigan 2024 offensive tackle [autotag]Gabe VanSickle[/autotag] and Ohio State football was correct.

After decommitting from Northwestern just a few days ago, the 6-foot, 5-inch, 283-pound lineman made his verbal commitment to the Buckeyes on Thanksgiving. It was clearly not a surprise, but it wasnโ€™t expected — especially not on this day.

VanSickle is ranked as the No. 41 interior offensive lineman and the 613th overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is now the fourth commitment on the offensive line, and has the potential to play right tackle or on the inside.

Itโ€™s a big pickup for the Buckeyes, even if his current ranking isnโ€™t what many are used to.

VanSickle is extremely athletic for his size, also playing high school basketball. The Buckeyes did a great job identifying a need and going after a prospect that fits their mold. Welcome to Buckeye nation Gabe!

Ohio State football trending to add former Northwestern offensive line commit

Itโ€™s flipping season for the Buckeyes

Ohio State football is looking to add at least one more tackle to itโ€™s 2024 recruiting class to join Ian Moore, Devontae Armstrong, and Deontae Armstrong.

At the top of the list is the top tackle Jordan Seaton, but that continues to look like a pipe dream as he has yet to make an official visit to Columbus. Another option is Michiganโ€™s [autotag]Gabe VanSickle[/autotag], who decommitted from Northwestern on Tuesday.

It didnโ€™t take long for some smoke of a flip happening, especially considering shortly after VanSickle was offered by the Buckeyes, he took an official visit. Shortly after he returned to the open recruiting market, three 247Sports experts put in crystal balls for him to eventually commit to Ohio State.

The three experts: Bill Kurelic, Steve Wiltfong and Allen Trieu, all made their picks within the same hour, seemingly with the same inside information. If true, the No. 613 overall prospect according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings will eventually be a Buckeye.
