Injury report for Joel Embiid, Sixers vs. Hawks in preseason finale

Here is the latest injury report for Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers as they take on the Atlanta Hawks in the preseason finale.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia 76ers are preparing for the preseason finale on Friday when they take on the Atlanta Hawks. They seek one final look at how the team will look under new coach Nick Nurse.

The Sixers have not seen Joel Embiid and Furkan Korkmaz in the preseason, and Danuel House Jr. has played one exhibition game. It appears all three will be ready to go in this one.

Per a team spokesperson, the Sixers are expected to have all three players return on Friday. Embiid was under the weather and missed Philadelphia’s preseason contest on Monday. Korkmaz has been dealing with a leg strain, and House Jr. has had right knee soreness.

As for James Harden, The Beard is still not with the team due to a personal matter. Therefore, he will not play against the Hawks on Friday.

The Sixers and the Hawks will tip off at 7 p.m. EDT from the Wells Fargo Center on Friday.

Sixers to be without Joel Embiid, James Harden, 2 others vs. Nets

The Philadelphia 76ers will be without Joel Embiid, James Harden, and 2 other players in their preseason matchup with the Brooklyn Nets.

The Philadelphia 76ers continue their preseason schedule on Monday at the Brooklyn Nets, but they will do so without some major pieces.

Joel Embiid, who was originally expected to play in this game per coach Nick Nurse, will sit out his third straight preseason game. James Harden, Furkan Korkmaz and Danuel House Jr. are also out. The reason for Harden’s absence goes without saying. Korkmaz is dealing with a leg strain, and House Jr. is dealing with knee soreness.

It is peculiar to see Embiid not play in this one. Considering this is a new system and a new scheme, it would benefit him and the Sixers to have him play to prepare him for the coming season.

The Sixers will take on the Nets at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Monday. After the Brooklyn game, they will host the Atlanta Hawks on Friday in their final preseason game. Harden is expected to play against Atlanta, and one has to assume Embiid plays in at least that one to prepare for the season.

Sixers’ Furkan Korkmaz discusses injury, difference with Nick Nurse

Philadelphia 76ers guard Furkan Korkmaz discusses his leg injury as well as the difference with Nick Nurse as coach.

CAMDEN, N.J.–The Philadelphia 76ers will continue the preseason schedule on Monday when they take on the Brooklyn Nets on the road. While they expect Joel Embiid’s return, it is now unlikely that they will have Furkan Korkmaz back.

Korkmaz has missed the first two preseason games due to a leg strain he suffered in training camp and coach Nick Nurse wants to see him out on the floor in order to give him a chance to earn a rotation spot.

“He did the whole practice today,” said Nurse on Sunday. “We didn’t really have much live action today though, so still looks like he’s unlikely for tomorrow now. I think I told you that he would be ready to go, but it looks like he’s unlikely for tomorrow. He’s making progress. So I need to get him in there. I need to see him.”

As for Korkmaz himself, he has been able to get back on the court in practice, but he’s still not quite ready to get back into game action.

“I feel much better,” said the veteran from Turkey. “I got a good work in now. It’s really like day-to-day. I’m really close to playing. I will be happy to see myself on the court.”

In terms of what he’s noticed about Nurse that wasn’t necessarily there under former coach Doc Rivers, Korkmaz sees more intensity. He sees everybody committed to working hard.

“It’s more like practice just kept going,” Korkmaz explained. “Like you don’t really stop practice. Whenever we are done with some drills and stuff, we just keep moving to next one, next one. There is no walking around drinking water on the sideline or something. It’s just ready to go.”

In order to get his guys ready to go, Nurse has brought in DJ Ghost, the team’s DJ, to play music during practices and keep guys engaged. Ghost has also played sound effects for specific plays. For example, when somebody makes a slot cut on offense, the jackpot sound is played.

“When you come in, it’s just practice time,” Korkmaz continued. “You’re ready to go and a lot of like changing as you see DJ Ghost is here. Like a lot of things change, of course, and I think it’s gonna be really positive for us.”

When asked if he likes the up-tempo style Nurse has used in practice, Korkmaz did have a request.

“It’s good, but I will tell Ghost to play some Turkish music in practices, so I can get it going, too,” he laughed. “I’m enjoying now.”

Sixers’ Nick Nurse gives update on Furkan Korkmaz amid leg strain injury

Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse gives an update on Furkan Korkmaz amid his leg strain injury.

WILMINGTON, Del.–The Philadelphia 76ers have two games left on the preseason docket beginning with Monday’s matchup with the Brooklyn Nets on the road. That gives coach Nick Nurse two more games to decide on his rotation as the team now moves forward.

One guy who Nurse hasn’t been able to see in a game yet is veteran Furkan Korkmaz. The 6-year veteran out of Turkey has been dealing with a leg strain and he has yet to play in the preseason while others have been able to audition for Nurse.

After Saturday’s Blue X White scrimmage in Delaware, Nurse gave an update on Korkmaz’s status as the team was able to practice before the scrimmage.

“He went through the non-contact part and then he went through a pretty rigorous conditioning testing after that,” Nurse of Korkmaz. “I think the plan is for him to be live tomorrow (Sunday) and get him ready to play in the game on Monday at this point. Barring any setbacks tonight or tomorrow off of today’s workout.”

Korkmaz is a proven shooter in this league and he is somebody the Sixers can count on off their bench. If he can give it a go on Monday, then that will give him his opportunity to show Nurse that he deserves some minutes in the rotation.

Sixers to be without James Harden, Joel Embiid, Furkan Korkmaz vs. Celtics

The Philadelphia 76ers will be without Joel Embiid, James Harden, and Furkan Korkmaz against the Boston Celtics.

The Philadelphia 76ers return home on Wednesday to take on the Boston Celtics in a preseason matchup. They will do so short-handed again as the Sixers work through the James Harden saga.

Harden was at the shootaround on Wednesday morning and he participated in everything, but the Sixers will hold him out of Wednesday’s matchup with the Celtics. Coach Nick Nurse mentioned he is still looking to ramp up his on-court activity.

Along with Harden, the Sixers will be without Joel Embiid and Furkan Korkmaz. When it comes to Embiid, it’s just the preseason so Philadelphia is looking to get him ready for the real games. Korkmaz is still dealing with a strain in his leg.

The Sixers look to continue to build their comfort level under Nurse when they host the Celtics at 7 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.

Nick Nurse gives update on Furkan Korkmaz missing Sixers vs. Celtics

Coach Nick Nurse provides an update on Furkan Korkmaz and the other missing Philadelphia 76ers players against the Boston Celtics.

The Philadelphia 76ers begin the preseason schedule on Sunday when they take on the Boston Celtics on the road. They will be without a number of pieces: Joel Embiid, James Harden, De’Anthony Melton and Furkan Korkmaz.

Harden, who still has a trade request, is ramping up his conditioning. Embiid and Melton are healthy scratches. However, coach Nick Nurse revealed Korkmaz,  a veteran out of Turkey, is dealing with a nagging injury.

“We have a couple guys ramping into conditioning to be able to play a game,” Nurse told reporters of the players resting. “We have one guy that’s overworked a little bit, so we’re giving him a night off as well and we got an injury which is Furk. Furk’s got a bit of a strain and he’s probably a few days away from getting back to action.”

Nurse revealed it was a leg strain for Korkmaz.

Korkmaz fell out of the rotation in the 2022-23 season, but he is a proven player. He can shoot and provide some ballhandling on the perimeter.

Considering there will be a competition for minutes, Nurse wants to see more of Korkmaz and give him a chance to earn a spot.

“One guy I do wanna see a lot of is Furk,” Nurse added. “I think Furk didn’t get a ton of opportunity last year, but in years gone by, he’s been pretty good and he’s been practicing very well. I wanna see where he ends up in this deal and we need to get him back out there so I can find that out.”

Tyrese Maxey, other Sixers give thoughts on current James Harden saga

Tyrese Maxey and other members of the Philadelphia 76ers give their thoughts on the current James Harden saga.

CAMDEN, N.J. — The conversation around the Philadelphia 76ers focuses on one player: James Harden. The future Hall of Famer did not attend media day on Monday as he continues his push to be traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Sixers are not going to trade Harden just to trade him; he is still a very talented player. Philadelphia is going to do everything in its power to either will him back to the team or wait until the right deal comes along.

This is not the first time the Sixers have dealt with this situation. The Ben Simmons saga was just two years ago, so they have experience in this situation. As they prepare for the 2023-24 season, Tyrese Maxey and other members of the team gave their thoughts on the situation.

A key question for every Philadelphia 76ers player on the roster

Here is a key question for every player on the roster as the Philadelphia 76ers prepare for the upcoming season.

The Philadelphia 76ers are ready to convene for training camp on Tuesday when they head to Colorado State University to begin preparation for the upcoming season. The Sixers are expected to remain contenders in the East despite the ongoing James Harden saga.

As the new season approaches, now is the time to begin previewing the 2023-24 season and begin getting ready for the adventure that is Sixers basketball.

With camp approaching, it is time to begin talking basketball. Here is a key question for the players on the roster with guaranteed deals:

Sixers training camp: who’s the odd man out in the guard rotation?

With training camp approaching, the Philadelphia 76ers have to figure out the guard rotation behind Tyrese Maxey and James Harden.

Training camp is quickly approaching for the Philadelphia 76ers as they get set to head out to Colorado State University in preparation for the 2023-24 season. The Sixers are still expected to be contenders in the Eastern Conference despite the James Harden saga over the summer.

Among the questions the Sixers must figure out is what the guard rotation will look like behind Harden (if he does show up) and Tyrese Maxey. While Harden and Maxey will be fully entrenched in the starting lineup at the guard spots, the Sixers will need to decide who gets the minutes off the bench.

While De’Anthony Melton and Patrick Beverley will certainly get the bulk of the minutes, there could be a few minutes left over for somebody to make an impact. The question is which one will be left out?

Sixers 3 goals: Furkan Korkmaz should focus on earning rotation spot

Furkan Korkmaz should focus on earning his rotation spot back for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2023-24 season.

In this continuing series, Sixers Wire looks at the 18 players, per Sportrac, that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 15 under contract and the three players on two-way deals — and gives each three goals for the 2023-24 season.

The new season begins on Oct. 26, and training camp begins on Oct. 3. Now is the time to begin previewing the new season of adventure that is Sixers basketball.

Furkan Korkmaz is in the final year of a three-year contract he signed in the 2021 offseason. The sixth-year veteran out of Turkey fell out of favor in the 2022-23 season. He played 37 games and averaged 9.5 minutes per game. Both were the lowest for him since his rookie season.

For Korkmaz, his three goals are:
