WATCH: Memphis freshman James Wiseman suspended 12 games

University of Memphis freshman James Wiseman will return to the hardwood on Jan. 12.

The NCAA announced Wednesday that the 7-foot-1 star is suspended 12 games, with 11 remaining at the time of the announcement.

Penny Hardaway paid $11,500 to help Wiseman and his family relocated to Memphis when the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2019 was in high school. At the time, Hardaway was an AAU coach and coach at East Memphis High School, where Wiseman enrolled.

As a former Memphis player and a donor, Hardaway qualified as a booster, making the financial help an impermissible benefit.

Hardaway is now the Tigers’ head coach.

The NCAA warned Memphis before the season began that the star rookie could be ineligible. The school, athletic department, and team decided to play Wiseman in three games anyway.

Memphis will appeal the suspension, saying Wednesday, “We expect a more fair and equitable resolution, and we will exhaust all avenues on James’ behalf.”

WATCH: Mitch Trubisky feels ‘day and night’ better Wednesday after suffering hip injury Sunday

Bears (4-6) quarterback Mitchell Trubisky says that he is feeling, “day and night,” better Wednesday compared to Sunday when he was benched after suffering a hip pointer during a sack.

Bears (4-6) quarterback Mitch Trubisky says that he is feeling, “day and night,” better Wednesday compared to Sunday when he was benched after suffering a hip pointer during a sack.

Matt Nagy sat the 25-year-old midway through the fourth quarter of the 17-7 loss to the Rams. Trubisky was 24-of-43 for 190 with a touchdown and interception at the time he stepped off the field for the day, leading to the belief that the head coach’s decision to pull the QB was based on performance. Postgame, Nagy made it clear that the decision was for the benefit of Trubisky’s health.

Nagy was hopeful Wednesday that Trubisky would return to practice and said that he was “day to day,” in regard to playing status for Sunday’s home game versus the Giants (2-8).

Trubisky explained that he was in too much pain to actually take a seat after being taken off the field Sunday, which made it appear perhaps like the decision was benching for poor play, explaining the feeling of the injury this way, “It’s above the hip. It’s like getting a Charley horse or a dead leg on the [quadriceps] except it’s above that area and it just makes your whole body tight. Running, and then obviously throwing when you gotta pull your right hip through … That motion, it just doesn’t feel comfortable.”

WATCH: Le’Veon Bell says he won’t take another drug test after having so many

Jets running back Le’Veon Bell says that he is not taking another drug test after this week.

Jets running back Le’Veon Bell says that he is not taking another drug test after this week.

Bell tweeted his frustration with the NFL’s random drug testing policy Wednesday, explaining that he has been asked to take five “‘random’ HGH [humane Growth Hormone] blood test(s)” in the last 10 weeks.

Bell’s full tweet Wednesday reads: “@NFL I’m not doing another after today, whatever y’all lookin for it obviously ain’t their & I’m not about to keep allowing y’all to stick me with those dirty ass needles..find the players who really do that HGH (expletive) & get off me..”

Bell declined a drug test in 2016 while with the Steelers and was issued a four-game suspension, which was reduced to three games, for the decision not to cooperate and not appearing for a mandatory drug test.

The 27-year-old was pulled out of the first two days of Jets training camp this summer and asked to take drug tests.

In his 10 games with the Jets (3-7) this season, Bell has 508 rushing yards on 161 carries and three touchdowns.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph apologized for his role in the on-field brawl between him and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph apologized on Wednesday for his role in the on-field brawl between him and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett.

Rudolph spoke to reporters for the first time since the Thursday Night Football fight on Nov. 14, reading a prepared statement before answering questions.

He said that he fell short of the expectation that comes with representing the Pittsburgh Steelers, a “first-class organization.” He also acknowledged that he put his teammates in a tough spot as he got into it with Garrett, specifically mentioning Maurkice Pouncey, who was handed a three-game suspension for his involvement in the fight.

Rudolph has not been suspended but will pay a fine, presumably the standard $35,096 for a first-time fighting violation.

WATCH: LeBron James becomes first NBA player to record triple-double against all 30 teams

LeBron James made NBA history becoming the first player to get a triple-double against all 30 teams in the league.

LeBron James has added yet another basketball milestone to his long list of them, becoming the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double against all 30 teams in the league.

He did so Tuesday night in a 112-107 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder at Staples Center, going for 25 points, 11 boards and 10 assists. That marked his fifth triple-double of the season and the 86th of his career.

“Coach (Frank) Vogel came in here and said, ‘Congratulations,’ and I thought he was joking about my seven turnovers,” James said to the Associated Press. “I really don’t know what to think about it. I just think it’s a pretty cool stat to know, and I’m glad it happened in a win.”

Houston Rockets star Russell Westbrook is next in line to get a triple-double against all 30 teams, only missing his former team of 11 years, Oklahoma City.
