New south side video board coming to Folsom Field in 2024

A new south side video board is coming to Folsom Field

Folsom Field will soon be receiving a much-needed upgrade.

University of Colorado athletic director Rick George announced Wednesday that a new video board is coming to the stadium’s south end zone in time for the 2024 season. The new board will be over five times the total surface area of the current one, per CU.

Additionally, the ribbon video board underneath will be expanded “over 1,000 feet from the top of section 203 to the top of section 220.”

The project is expected to cost about $15 million.

“Enhancing the atmosphere of Folsom Field on game day is always a top priority and we are always looking for ways to improve,” George said in a press release. “I’m confident this new video board will further enrich and elevate the game day experience for our fans next year in our first season in the Big 12 Conference.”

Here’s how social media reacted to the news:

Colorado sells out remaining September home games

For the first time since 1996, Colorado has sold out four home games

Colorado’s remaining September home games against Colorado State (Sept. 16) and USC (Sept. 30) are officially sold out, the university announced on Thursday.

Folsom Field, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this season, is also sold out for Saturday’s home opener vs. Nebraska and a Friday night matchup with Stanford on Oct. 13. The four total sellouts mark Colorado’s most in a season since 1996.

Per CU, a “limited number” of tickets remain for the Buffs’ homecoming game vs. Oregon State (Nov. 4) and the home finale against Arizona (Nov. 11).

The Buffs have never sold out every home game in a single season, but that appears likely to change this fall.

Head coach Deion Sanders led Colorado to a 45-42 victory over TCU last Saturday in his first game leading the Buffs. The win helped Colorado secure a top 25 ranking in both the AP Poll and the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Where Folsom Field’s capacity ranks among 2024 Big 12 football stadiums

See where Folsom Field’s capacity ranks among its new Big 12 counterparts

The Big 12 Conference is going to look much different in 2024. With Colorado, Utah, Arizona State and Arizona making the move in, and not to mention Oklahoma and Texas going to the SEC, there will be a lot of new faces in the Big 12.

The Pac-12 as we know it is ending, and the future remains murky for the conference. There will be 16 teams in the Big 12 come 2024, and we already examined a number of different things, including the winningest programs and our favorite stadiums.

Let’s next examine the capacity of each Big 12 football stadium. Here’s how they rank from lowest to highest:

WATCH: Russell Wilson, other Broncos work out at Folsom Field

Russell Wilson, Jerry Jeudy and a few other Broncos were at Folsom Field earlier this week

As documented by a Well Off Media YouTube video, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson and some teammates visited Boulder earlier this week for a workout at CU’s Folsom Field.

Wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton and tight ends Greg Dulcich and Chris Manhertz were also spotted in the video. Plus, according to Broncos Wire, running back Javonte Williams was on campus working out as he recovers from an ACL injury.

Wilson’s personal coach Jake Heaps, who was recently banned from the Broncos’ team facilities by new head coach Sean Payton, was at Folsom, too.

The Broncos begin training camp practices on July 28.

Check out the full video below, which includes a short interaction between Wilson and Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders:

Wilson later thanked Buffs head coach Deion Sanders for letting him sling it at Folsom:

Where Colorado football’s spring game attendance ranks in the nation

Take a look at where CU’s spring game attendance ranked in all of college football

Colorado held its 2023 spring football game on Saturday, and the day was largely a success.

ESPN arrived — bringing CU alumnus Chris Fowler to Boulder to call the game — in a large departure from the past. Shedeur Sanders showed well for himself and certainly looked the part of a Pac-12 starting quarterback. Travis Hunter, for his part, caught a touchdown from Sanders in what was an impressive look at the Buffs’ two-way player as he tries to firmly cement a significant role on offense in 2023.

And, a sold-out Folsom Field crowd was there to see the start of a new era in Colorado football. Read on to find out where CU’s crowd of over 47,000 fans ranks among spring game attendance numbers across the country, per On3:

Low attendance expected for Colorado’s finale against Utah

Unfortunately, Folsom isn’t expected to be very full for the season finale

With the Buffaloes only playing for pride at this point, not many fans are interested in taking in Colorado’s season finale against Utah at Folsom Field on Saturday.

Brian Howell of BuffZone tweeted on Friday evening that only 32,567 tickets have been sold. If that number holds, it would mark the first time since the 2014 finale against Utah that Folsom has been under 35,000.

Folsom Field is averaging 44,722 fans entering the final home game with a season-low of 40,334 (Arizona State on Oct. 29). The season-high of 50,471 witnessed CU’s lone win of the season vs. Cal.

Kickoff for Saturday’s season finale is set for 2 p.m. MT on the Pac-12 Network.

Colorado’s student section for Cal game earns a top-10 ranking

The @CUnitBuffs had one of the best student sections in college football this past week

The C-Unit has been great so far this year at Folsom Field for the Colorado Buffaloes football team and it is even catching the eyes of some in the Twitterverse.

Big Game Boomer is a podcast/YouTube page that is all things college sports. It is also a very successful Twitter page that is a fun follow for college sports fans, especially if you enjoy lists and rankings.

Each week, BGB puts together its rankings of the top 20 best/worst student sections in college football, and the Buffaloes student section showed out in Saturday’s game against Cal. Having a fan base that showed up for an 0-5 team while being as impassioned as it was is something to be proud of.

See below for where the C-Unit ranked in college football’s best student sections:

Buffs rank high in best Pac-12 pregame fan experience

Boulder and Folsom Field got some love in a Pac-12 pregame fan experience ranking

The Colorado Buffaloes are working to surpass low outside expectations for this season. However, that likely won’t stop tons of fans from flocking into Folsom Field.

Moreover, a few other football teams in the Pac-12 are also set for an attendance uptick with fewer COVID restrictions across the country. Plus, on television, Pac-12 After Dark isn’t a bad way to end your Saturday.

Dan Kilbridge of Bookies.com broke down the best stadiums in the Pac-12, with pregame fan experience as the criteria. Not surprisingly to us, the Buffs were ranked pretty high.

Below are the entire rankings with commentary from Kilbridge on his reasoning.

Colorado Buffaloes release home game promotional schedule

The Buffs will have a number of fan promotions at Folsom Field next season

The Colorado Buffaloes have released their home game promotional schedule for the upcoming 2022 football season. Colorado has typically done a good job at promoting different jersey combinations and season events that will take place, and this season looks to be no different.

CU seems to have gotten the news out early this year, letting fans know the theme for each game in order to have fans prep with just the right outfit to match the promotion at Folsom Field.

The Buffs’ six-game home slate will include a different theme or special event for each date.

Let’s break it down game-by-game:

LOOK: Bill Walton takes in Dead & Co. concert at CU’s Folsom Field

LOOK: Bill Walton was at Folsom Field on Friday for the Dead & Co. concert

The city of Boulder is drenched in tie-dye shirts this weekend as the beloved band Dead & Company visits for a pair of shows.

Friday’s opening concert saw thousands pack the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field, and it was no surprise when college basketball legend and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton was spotted (rather easily, assumedly) amongst the Deadheads. Walton has long been one of the band’s most famous fans and his unique personality certainly fits in with the Dead & Co. crowd.

While Walton’s color commentary on the Pac-12 Network may not be for everyone, it’s hard not to ultimately love the 7-footer. Plus, his passion for Boulder should make him a favorite amongst CU fans.
