Sports Illustrated’s prediction for Florida-Florida State game

Pat Forde took a look at the rivalry matchups lined up this Saturday with the UF-FSU game headlining the cohort.

The final game of the college football regular-season schedule is this weekend and the annual rivalry game between the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles in the Swamp looks to be a good one.

Before the Week 13 action, Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde took a look at the rivalry matchups lined up this Saturday with the UF-FSU game headlining the cohort.

“The Seminoles (11–0), thrust into unexpected adversity with the season-ending injury to star quarterback Jordan Travis, are suddenly the most vulnerable of the five undefeated College Football Playoff contenders,” Forde began.

“The Gators (5–6) are trying to stop the bleeding after four straight losses, earn a bowl bid and ruin a rival’s season. In terms of building some goodwill with the fans, second-year coach Billy Napier could sure use this one.”

He then continued, “Is backup FSU QB Tate Rodemaker good enough to exploit a Florida defense that has collapsed over the last month? Rodemaker led Florida State to a win at Louisville last year coming off the bench, so there is reason to think he can do it.”

Forde ultimately chose the ‘Noles to prevail on the road, 28-21.

The Florida-Florida State game will take place inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 25, with the kickoff slated for 7 p.m. ET and the game broadcasted on ESPN.

Sports Illustrated expects ‘sneaky good’ game between Gators-Seminoles

There is little doubt that the UF-FSU game this Saturday will be one of the more exciting affairs.

This weekend’s matchup between Florida and Florida State on the collegiate gridiron has quite a bit at stake for both programs.

For the Gators, Billy Napier and Co. are looking to avoid its third-straight losing season while also earning the elusive sixth win they need to play in a bowl game. The Seminoles, on the other hand, need a resounding victory to earn a spot among the final four teams that will comprise the College Football Playoff.

Those points, along with the fact that this is a historic rivalry game that always has something special in store, make the UF-FSU matchup one of the more intriguing ones in Week 13. Intriguing enough to be considered a “sneaky good” game according to Sports Illustrated’s Richard Johnson, who published his watchability index ahead of Saturday’s action.

“No Jordan Travis for Florida State is the gut punch of all gut punches for a Seminoles team that has national title aspirations,” Johnson notes. “They head to Gainesville to play a Gators team that has its own issues at quarterback to sort out. It could be a low-scoring game in the Swamp.”

The Florida-Florida State game will take place inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 25, with the kickoff slated for 7 p.m. ET and the game broadcasted on ESPN.

College Sports Wire at odds on whether Gators can beat Seminoles

Ahead of Week the 13 affair, College Sports Wire’s four staff members weighed in on their predictions against the spread.

This weekend, Florida football faces the Florida State Seminoles in the final game of the season with a bowl berth on the line. Meanwhile, FSU is trying to maintain its unbeaten record and sneak into the College Football Playoffs.

Both teams will be doing so without their starting quarterbacks. The hit will be especially painful for the Noles, who lost a Heisman Trophy candidate in Jordan Travis to a gruesome leg injury.

As rivalry games are wont to be, all bets are off this weekend as the two in-state sister schools take to the field in the Swamp. Ahead of Week the 13 affair, College Sports Wire’s four staff members weighed in with their predictions against the spread.

Two respondents — Patrick Conn and Patrick Sturgeon — picked the Gators against the 6.5-point spread while the other two — Tyler Nettuno and Nick Schwartz — hose the ‘Noles.

USA TODAY Sports split on Gators-Seminoles outcome

The six respondents were split right down the middle — much like the Gators Wire expert predictions.

The final week of the 2023 college football regular season is nearly upon us as the unranked Florida Gators and No. 4 Florida State Seminoles prepare for their annual showdown. This year, the two programs face off in the Swamp, which could play a large role in the outcome of this game.

Ahead of the gridiron gruel between two in-state rivals, the USA TODAY Sports staff converged to give their takes on who will emerge victoriously on Saturday night. The six respondents were split right down the middle — much like the Gators Wire expert predictions — with Jace Evans, Paul Myerberg and Dan Wolen picking the Orange and Blue.

On the other side, Scooby Axson, Erick Smith and Eddie Timanus picked the Garnet and Gold to remain undefeated.

Expert Predictions: Gators Wire crew split on FSU outcome in Week 13

The Gators Wire gang assembled to provide their respective takes on the Week 13 affair between Florida and Florida State.

Florida football gets one last chance to earn its sixth victory of the 2023 campaign — a victory that would both assure a .500 regular-season record along with a bowl game berth that gives the team one more chance to play afterward.

Standing in the way of that goal are the Florida State Seminoles, who travel to Gainesville to face the Gators in Week 13. FSU comes in ranked No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll with a perfect 11-0 record. However, this week brings a bit of a wrinkle to a rivalry game that always has surprises in store.

Both programs will be without their starting quarterbacks. For the Noles, Heisman Trophy candidate Jordan Travis is done with his collegiate career after sustaining an ugly leg injury; for the Gators, Graham Mertz is sidelined with a broken clavicle.

Ahead of the in-state rivalry matchup inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the Gators Wire gang assembled to provide their respective takes on the Week 13 affair. Take a look below at what each of us think along with the composite prediction below.

Everything Billy Napier said to open Week 13 vs. Florida State

The final week of the regular season is here and that means it’s time for the FSU game. Here’s everything Billy Napier said at his Monday presser.

Florida head coach Billy Napier addressed everything from Graham Mertz’s injury to his relationship with the father of Florida State’s backup quarterback during his Monday press conference to kick off Week 13.

The Gators are hoping to avoid ending the season on a five-game losing streak, but the fourth-ranked Seminoles stand in the way. The twist is that both teams are down their starting quarterbacks. Napier talked plenty about both Mertz and redshirt freshman Max Brown, who is expected to start on Saturday.

He also addressed some of the more critical moments of the Missouri game after getting a chance to review the tape.

Here’s everything Napier said on Monday.

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis leaves senior night game with severe leg injury

The senior suffered a catastrophic leg injury after an awkward tackle, eventually leaving the stadium in an ambulance with a cast.

Florida State star quarterback Jordan Travis left his final game at Doak Campbell Stadium in the first quarter after a devastating injury to his left leg and ankle.

The senior was injured on an awkward tackle in the closing minutes of the first quarter against North Alabama, his ankle very visible for a few moments. The video can be watched here, but viewer discretion is advised as the injury is quite brutal.

Travis left the game on the medical cart with his injured leg in a cast, and he left Doak Campbell in an ambulance. He pointed to his heart and waved to the crowd as he left the game.

Tate Rodemaker will take over for Travis. The junior completed seven of his eight passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns before Saturday.

Florida State QB Jordan Travis carted off field after suffering leg injury

Florida State QB Jordan Travis has suffered a leg injury and was carted off the field

Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis was carted off the field during the first quarter of Saturday’s game with North Alabama after suffering a leg injury.

Travis was tackled after running on a play and remained on the field for moments before being carted off.

The undefeated Seminoles trailed the Lions 13-0 at the time of the injury. They got a field goal to make it 13-3 entering the second quarter.

Jameis Winston was at the game to have his jersey retired. He spoke graciously about Travis, keeping the focus on the injured QB.

The Seminoles rallied for their injured quarterback in the game.

They scored the final 58 points of the game, trouncing the Lions, by 45. That wasn’t enough to cover the 45-point spread but it had to soothe some of the sadness of losing their great quarterback early.

Travis celebrated a teammate’s success from his hospital bed via an Instagram story post.

Louisville clinches second ACC title game spot to set up showdown with Seminoles

The undefeated Seminoles and the Louisville Cardinals will battle in Charlotte on Dec. 2 for the ACC title.

Louisville defeated Miami on Saturday to cement their spot as the second team in the ACC title game, meaning the No. 10 Cardinals and No. 4 Florida State are set to battle in the conference championship.

The game will take place on December 2 in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium.

The Seminoles, who remain undefeated so far this season, clinched their place in the conference’s final game with a victory over Pittsburgh on Nov. 4. FSU has more than the conference trophy on its mind, as the ranking indicates Mike Norvell’s squad controls its own destiny for the College Football Playoff. This is Florida State’s sixth appearance in the conference title game, including four times in five years from 2010-2014, but the Seminoles have not been back since that run.

The Cardinals, on the other hand, will make their first appearance in the ACC title game in their first season under head coach Jeff Brohm. Brohm, who spent the 2017-22 seasons with Purdue, also led the Boilermakers to their first Big Ten title game appearance last season.
