The No. 3 Florida State Seminoles (3-0) travel to Death Valley to take on the No. 23 Clemson Tigers (2-1, 0-1 ACC) Saturday at 12p.m. (ABC). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Florida State vs. Clemson odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Florida State suffered a couple of scares last Saturday against Boston College. The first scare was that the Seminoles barely prevailed 31-29 as 27.5-point favorites despite being ahead by 21 points in the 3rd quarter. The second scare was when QB Jordan Travis came up injured at the end of the 1st half. Lucky for the Seminoles, Travis was able to return to the game following halftime or they may have lost a game they should easily win.

Clemson has recorded back-to-back victories after losing its season opener to Duke 31-13. The Tigers recorded a 48-14 victory at home last Saturday against Florida Atlantic, comfortably covering as 24.5-point favorites. While Florida State and Florida Atlantic are only separated by 442 miles, the difference in talent is much greater. This discrepancy is something the Tigers will need to overcome if they want to avoid starting 0-2 in conference play.

Florida State is No. 3 and Clemson is No. 23 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Florida State at Clemson picks and predictions

Prediction

Florida State 34, Clemson 27

Moneyline

PASS.

While Florida State at -134 is excellent value, the likelihood of the team winning by 1 or 2 points and not covering the spread is not worth the extra .24 of juice.

The Tigers have been an up-and-down team this season and the Seminoles have probably gotten their clunker out of the way. We saw in the Week 1 demolition of LSU what Florida State can do, and much of the same could be set to happen here.

Against the spread

BET FLORIDA STATE -2.5 (-110).

Despite Clemson winning the last 7 matchups in this series, Florida State has taken it to a different level in 2023 while Clemson is stuck in 2016 mode.

Travis has thrown for 739 yards so far this season with 8 TDs and 1 INT for the Seminoles and with six-foot-seven WR Johnny Wilson and six-foot-four WR Keon Coleman hauling down passes, it is a difficult position for any team to try and stop them.

Although the FSU defense has not been as good as hoped, DL Jared Verse is still a 1st-round NFL talent player and has the ability to get through a less-than-solid offensive line in Clemson. The Seminoles should be able to get pressure and disrupt Tigers QB Cade Klubnik.

FSU will put up enough points to stay ahead of Clemson and cover this short line.

Over/Under

BET OVER 55.5 (-105).

Not only is Florida State rolling on offense in 2023, but Clemson finally came to life in a 48-14-win Saturday over Florida Atlantic.

This matchup has gone Over in 6 of its last 10 meetings and many of those meetings came with Clemson having a top 5 defense. Clemson went to Tallahassee and scored a 34-28 victory over FSU when these teams met last season, comfortably cashing the Over (51).

FSU has playoffs on its mind in 2023, but it must win this game and do it handily to get there. Most of the damage might be taken care of here before halftime and both teams will continue to use their first-team offense as this game should stay close throughout.
