Florida Atlantic vs Charlotte Game Preview

Why Florida Atlantic Will Win

Yeah, Florida Atlantic finally dropped another game in a 86-77 loss to UAB, but it took everything to go the other way in the weeknight road game.

The Owls are much better from three than they showed against the Blazers, and they’re much, much better on the boards – they were outrebounded by eight.

Charlotte is about to get crushed on the boards.

There aren’t any points on the move, Florida Atlantic has more ways to score, and …

Why Charlotte Will Win

Charlotte has the ability to force mistakes.

Florida Atlantic doesn’t have a big turnover problem – there weren’t issues against UAB – but 49er defense is able attack well and then control the tempo from there.

They have to hit their threes – that not normally a problem – and the defense should be able to hold up well and not get the great free-throw shooting Owls on the line. That, and …

What’s Going To Happen

Charlotte is normally great at home.

It only lost two, and it’s coming off a weird/rough loss to a mediocre FIU team, but it’s normally a far better shooting team at home and does a much better job of moving the ball around to find the easy shot.

That’s not happening here.

Florida Atlantic will get on the move and go on a little bit of a run late in the first half to force Charlotte to start bombing away more from the outside. That’s not going to work well enough.

Florida Atlantic vs Charlotte Game Preview

Why Florida Atlantic Will Win

The passing game should be fine

It sputtered against Air Force, and the offense as a whole struggled in the loss to UAB – N’Kosi Perry threw three picks – but the Charlotte defense that gave up 466 yards through the air to FIU and got rocked by Middle Tennessee is going to get thrown on.

The Owl offense is great at keeping the chains moving. They’ve got the balance to move on the ground to go along with 240 yards or more through the air in every game but one. Overall, the 400+ yards will be there, but …

Week 8 CFN College Football Expert Picks

Why Charlotte Will Win

Charlotte should be able to run the ball.

It’s not a consistent team – both losses game when the O failed to hit 300 yards – but when the ground game is working, everything is okay.

Florida Atlantic’s defense got run over by Florida and Air Force, but those are obvious outliers. The pass D is just okay against quarterbacks that can get into a rhythm, and Chris Reynolds can do that – he’s hitting over 70% of his passes over the last three games, and that’s what the Owls have to worry about.

It that happens, the running game is effective enough to control the game, but …

Week 8 College Football Schedule, Predictions, Game Previews

What’s Going To Happen

It’s been a bit feast-or-famine for the Florida Atlantic offense, but it’s done what it was supposed to against the mediocre defenses on the slate.

Charlotte has been able to survive when it allowed a ton of yards, though – beating Duke, Middle Tennessee, and FIU when allowing over 500 yards.

That’s not going to work out against Florida Atlantic.

Why Florida Atlantic Will Win

We’re finally here. The Willie Taggart era will get going after a whole slew of  delays, and the team is good enough to be deep in the hunt for the Conference USA title, if not win it all again.

Former Indiana Hoosier Nick Tronti will be fine as the new quarterback with a whole slew of excellent receivers to throw to. The passing game will be excellent, the backfield is loaded with options, and the team as a whole should start out just fine.

On the other side, does Charlotte have a passing game?

CFN Experts Picks: NFL

Why Charlotte Will Win

Before getting hurt, Chris Reynolds only hit 11-of-30 passes in the loss to Appalachian State. The 49er running game is fine with former Northern Illinois star Tre Harbison coming off a good first game.

This isn’t an offense that’s going to show off a whole lot of firepower, so the solid O line has to take control early, own the clock, and expect that FAU isn’t going to be sharp – or have the wind – in the opener.

What’s Going To Happen

The biggest problem for the 49ers is a defensive front that has enough decent players to be okay, but gave up over 300 rushing yards to Appalachian State. Don’t expect FAU to do anything too funky. Run the ball, own third downs, and try to make Charlotte press.
