Recapping additions the Philadelphia 76ers made in 2023 offseason

Here is a recap of the moves made by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2023 offseason to add to their roster.

The 2023-24 season is right around the corner for the Philadelphia 76ers with training camp beginning on Oct. 3 and the season getting underway on Oct. 26. Thus will begin another 82-game adventure in Sixers history and now is the time to begin previewing the upcoming season.

Philadelphia was limited in what they could do in the 2023 offseason with everything hinging on the James Harden situation. It has been a tumultuous summer for the franchise as The Beard made it clear that he wants out and the Sixers had to focus on trying to resolve that situation.

To recap, here are the moves the Sixers made to add to their roster for the 2023-24 season:

3 candidates Sixers could move after bringing in Kelly Oubre Jr.

Here are three players the Philadelphia 76ers could move on from in order to make room of Kelly Oubre Jr.

The Philadelphia 76ers made a move late in free agency and with training camp right around the corner when they brought in Kelly Oubre Jr. on a 1-year deal. Oubre Jr. averaged 20.3 points per game for the Charlotte Hornets in the 2022-23 season and will look to make an impact in Philadelphia.

The signing of Oubre Jr. leaves the Sixers with 16 players now on standard contracts, three players on two-way deals, and two others on Exhibit 10 deals. That leaves Philadelphia with 21 players which is the full limit for training camp.

The Sixers will have to cut or trade a player before the season opens on Oct. 24 (Oct. 26 for the Sixers). The roster limit for active players is 15 and, as mentioned, they’re at 16 with bringing in Oubre Jr.

Here are three candidates who could be moved before the season begins:

Sixers 3 goals: Filip Petrusev should focus on development in G League

Young Philadelphia 76ers big man Filip Petrusev should focus on continuing to develop in the G League.

In this continuing series, Sixers Wire looks at the 18 players, per Sportrac, that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 15 under contract and the three players on two-way deals — and gives each three goals for the 2023-24 season.

The new season begins on Oct. 26, and training camp begins on Oct. 3. Now is the time to begin previewing the new season of adventure that is Sixers basketball.

The next player in this series is young big man Filip Petrusev. The Sixers selected him in the 2021 NBA draft and then he played overseas for two seasons. He will now head over to the Sixers and look to make an impact.

For Petrusev, his three goals are as follows:

Petrusev scored 17 points, six rebounds and two assists, and Stefan Jovic added 11 points for Serbia. The 17-point effort from Petrusev marked a tournament high in scoring and was his second straight game in double figures.

With the win, Serbia will face either Canada or Slovenia in the semifinals on Friday in Manila, Philippines (4:45 a.m. EDT). Serbia and the United States punched their tickets to the next round in Tuesday’s quarterfinals.

Serbia is one of four European countries still in contention in the tournament. With two Olympic berths going to the region, Serbia could clinch a spot in the Games for the first time since 2016, depending on the outcomes of the two games on Wednesday.

Sixers’ Filip Petrusev’s agent says big man plans to be NBA-bound

Philadelphia 76ers big man Filip Petrusev’s agent says the plan is for him to join the NBA in the 2023-24 season.

The Philadelphia 76ers may have a young big man come over from Europe in the 2023 offseason.

Philadelphia selected Filip Petrusev with the 50th pick in the 2021 NBA draft, and after playing for the Sixers in the summer league, he stayed overseas to develop.

He played for Anadolu Efes in the 2021-22 season and averaged 15.2 points and 6.2 rebounds. He played for Crvena Zvezda in the EuroLeague and averaged 10.7 points and 5.2 rebounds.

Petrusev’s agent told Basket News the plan is for him to go to the NBA for the 2023-24 season:

“If he doesn’t sign in the NBA until August, then I’ll listen to Crvena Zvezda first because he really likes the environment there. In fact, I will not consider European options. I think that Filip will be in the NBA next season. If not, then, of course, he will be in Crvena Zvezda,” Raznatovic shared. “Of course, many may not like this, but this is the reality.”

Petrusev will likely play for the Sixers in the summer league in July. At that point, he and the Sixers will have to decide on what a contract will look like for him in the NBA.
