The Chicago Bears offense has found new life with the run game and second-year running back David Montgomery, who has been on a tear over the last month.

But Montgomery’s best game came on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, where the Bears needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. And it was Montgomery’s stellar performance that led the way.

Montgomery gained 146 rushing yards on 32 carries (4.6 average) with two touchdowns. His rushing total and carries were both career highs.

That performance garnered Montgomery a nomination for FedEx’s Ground Player of the Week, where he’s up against the likes of Tennessee’s Derrick Henry and Green Bay’s Aaron Jones.

Montgomery has recorded three 100-yard rushing games — including back-to-back 100-yard games — over the last four games. With a rejuvenated offensive line, better play-calling and new opportunities, Montgomery has been showing everyone why he’s one of the league’s exciting young backs to watch.

Falcons RB Todd Gurley named NFL Ground Player of the Week

Running back Todd Gurley recorded his first 100-yard rushing game of the season on Sunday during the Falcons’ 23-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

Running back Todd Gurley recorded his first 100-yard rushing game of the season on Sunday during the Falcons’ 23-16 loss to the Carolina Panthers. With head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff getting fired, though, Gurley’s big Week 5 performance was somewhat overlooked.

On just 14 rushing attempts, Gurley went for 121 yards and a touchdown on 8.6 yards per carry. That was enough for the former Georgia standout to win this week’s FedEx Ground Player of the Week.

Gurley has bee steady this season, but the Falcons’ defensive limitations hasn’t allowed the former All-Pro RB to touch the ball as much as the team would like.

For the season, Gurley has rushed 79 times for 375 yards (4.7 Y.P.A.) and five touchdowns, while adding eight catches for 38 receiving yards. Check out his 35-yard touchdown run against the Panthers in Week 5 below.

Chiefs RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire voted FedEx Ground Player of the Week

Edwards-Helaire was voted FedEx NFL Ground Player of the Week by fans following his Week 1 debut.

Kansas City Chiefs rookie RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire has been voted in as the FedEx NFL Ground Player of the Week for Week 1 of the 2020 NFL Season. This is the first of what feels like many future awards that await Edwards-Helaire.

Every week during the course of the NFL season three finalists are chosen for each FedEx NFL Ground and Air Player of the Week. Fans then vote for their choice to win the weekly award.

This week Edwards-Helaire was pit against Raiders RB Josh Jacobs and Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey. Jacobs had 93 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns. McCaffrey had 96 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns. The two veterans couldn’t edge out the Chiefs’ rookie Edwards-Helaire, who recorded a league-leading 138 yards on 25 carries and one touchdown in his debut.

Edwards-Helare joins a list of several Chiefs running backs who have won this award since its inception in 2003. A list that includes greats like Priest Holmes, Derrick Blaylock, Larry Johnson, and Jamaal Charles. The last player to win the ground award for Kansas City was Kareem Hunt in Week 9 of 2018 against the Cleveland Browns.

Edwards-Helaire is currently taking the league by storm. His Week 1 performance already has oddsmakers favoring him to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. The Chiefs don’t plan to let up on his usage either. The team wanted to feed him the ball in Week 1, which was a departure from the norm for this offense. So long as it keeps working for Kansas City, Edwards-Helaire will continue having big games for this football team.

VOTE: Seahawks RB Chris Carson for FedEx Ground Player of the Week

For his efforts against the Panthers, Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of Week 15.

For his efforts on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of Week 15.

In the Seahawks win over the Panthers, Carson logged 24 carries for 133 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

“The way Chris ran – I thought Chris ran as well as he’s ever run,” coach Pete Carroll said Monday. “Just consistently attacking with big finishes to his runs, which is really his highlight aspect. The touchdown one on fourth and one. The first touchdown he had, the finish there. Couple short yard shots, too, and all that. Gets us to demonstrate the style that we love to play in. It really accentuates the guys up front doing a good job. That’s really positive.”

Carson now has 270 touches for 1,190 yards on the year, his second consecutive season rushing for over 1000 yards.
