Vikings get dynamic wide receiver in Thor Nystrom’s mock draft

The Vikings geta much-needed dynamic wide receiver in Thor Nystrom’s mock draft.

The Minnesota Vikings need a wide receiver to play opposite of Justin Jefferson and Thor Nystrom of Fantasy Pros agrees. He sent the Vikings TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston.

In Nystrom’s mock draft, the top four quarterbacks were all gone by the 7th overall pick. With Hendon Hooker not a smart selection due to his mixed bag of issues, a wide receiver would be a smart selection here.

Johnston is the prototype of a number one wide receiver. He is a big guy with speed and explosiveness. Johnston also has the capability to dominate with the ball in the air.

Outside of the quarterback of the future, getting a wide receiver to pair with Jefferson and take the pressure off would be a great outcome for the Vikings.

Vikings get shutdown corner in latest Fantasy Pro’s mock draft

Fantasy Pros released a mock draft that had the Minnesota Vikings selecting a shutdown corner.

The Minnesota Vikings signed free agent corner Byron Murphy this offseason, but there is still a lack of depth at the position.

On Monday, Kent Weyrauch of Fantasy Pros released their latest mock draft, which had the Vikings selecting Maryland cornerback Deonte Banks.

The Vikings managed to navigate the cap in such a way that they could sign Byron Murphy to replace Patrick Peterson but still need more defensive backs. Deonte Banks has shown excellent ball skills and athletic explosiveness — he will immediately be a top-three corner on the Vikings.

Banks has risen up draft boards over the last month and has been a common selection for the Vikings in a lot of mock drafts. His physical presence and his versatility to play both man coverage and zone coverage would be a tremendous asset for the Vikings.

Banks has shown throughout college his ability to shut down the opposing team’s top receiver, which is something the Vikings haven’t had since Xavier Rhodes.

Fantasy Pros gives Vikings a clutch cornerback in latest mock draft

The Vikings getting a cornerback with excellent ball skills would be a great result come April

The Minnesota Vikings are facing a crucial need for cornerbacks this offseason. With only three players currently under contract and limited cap space, they’ll need to tap into the NFL Draft to help bolster the depth at that position.

Luckily, Dennis Sosic of Fantasy Pros is helping the Vikings out. In Sosic’s latest mock draft, which was released on Friday, he had the Vikings selecting Mississippi State cornerback Emmanuel Forbes.

“New DC Brian Flores loves his cornerbacks, and the Vikings need to get impactful young players on a defense that gave up the second-most yards per game (388.7 yards per game). The defense needs playmakers immediately and found one of the top playmaking corners in college with Emmanuel Forbes. Forbes totaled 14 interceptions, the tops in the NCAA during his three seasons. Forbes is a ball-hawking corner who scored three touchdowns in college. His smaller build may lead to concerns, but his length and game-changing plays will help the Vikings’ defense turn the corner.”

Forbes has become a more popular pick for the Vikings in recent mock drafts, and understandably so. Last season, he finished the year with six interceptions and six pass breakups. While he has a slighter build, he doesn’t shy away from physicality, which would make him a perfect fit in Brian Flores’ defense.

Vikings take versatile defensive back in latest Fantasy Pros Mock Draft

The Vikings take a versatile player in the latest mock draft from Fantasy Pros

There have been a plethora of cornerbacks mocked the Minnesota Vikings throughout this offseason. Now that the Super Bowl is over, the NFL Draft season is officially underway, which means more mock drafts and more cornerbacks to dive into.

On Monday, Matthew Freedman of Fantasy Pros gave the Vikings a new cornerback in his first mock draft after the Super Bowl. He has the Vikings selecting Texas A&M cornerback Antonio Johnson.

Nos. 1-2 CBs Patrick Peterson and Chandon Sullivan are 2023 free agents — and they could both use upgrades anyway. Johnson has the length (6-3) and SEC experience to be a starting corner early in his career.”

Johnson would be a fun addition to the Vikings mainly because he has some safety experience, meaning he’d be a versatile player for Brian Flores’ defense. There is concern about where Johnson’s true position would be in the NFL. He’s a well-polished player with great size, but questions remain about his ability to play cornerback. If the Vikings draft Johnson, he’ll need some coaching but could develop into a good starting cornerback.

Fantasy Pros sends familiar name to Vikings in mock draft

Smith continues to be a massively popular selection for the Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have a need at the cornerback position. Throughout the offseason, they’ve been mocked by many different players, but South Carolina cornerback Cam Smith has been one of the most popular. In their first mock draft since the Super Bowl was finished on Monday morning, Andrew Erickson of Fantasy Pros continued the trend of having the Vikings select Smith in the first round.

“Defense. Defense. Defense. The Minnesota Vikings ranked 26th in DVOA in 2022, “boasting” the league’s second-worst mark in passing yards allowed per game (265.6). They brought in Brian Flores as the new defensive coordinator, and his presence will be most felt in the team’s secondary. Enter Cam Smith. The South Carolina defensive back checks off the marks as a defensive back poised to get his hands on the ball. In 2021, he earned PFF’s second-highest coverage grade in the FBS. And over the last two seasons, Smith has broken up 15 passes.”

There is no doubt that Smith’s physicality would be a welcome addition to the Vikings come April. If the Vikings go this route, they’d be set up with a young cornerback group with plenty of potential heading into the 2023 season.
