Chiefs OT Jawaan Taylor addresses false start miscues

#Chiefs tackle Jawaan Taylor addressed his controversial start to the 2023 season in comments to the media on Thursday.

Kansas City Chiefs tackle Jawaan Taylor has struggled through the first two weeks of the 2023 season. Though his penalties and miscues haven’t yet cost Kansas City a win, the attention he has garnered to this point in the Chiefs’ campaign is troubling.

When speaking with the media on Thursday, Taylor assessed his play and broke down his suboptimal showing in Week 2.

“[There have been] a lot of highs and lows, definitely,” Taylor explained. “Overall, I feel like my performance wasn’t too bad, but the penalties have to [be] cleaned up.”

Taylor was taken out of the game multiple times and gave some insight regarding Andy Reid’s decision to pull him.

“[He] just [gave me] a breather, just took me out for a couple of plays for a breather,” Taylor said. “[Then I] just [got] back in and [finished] the game.”

The 25-year-old has been more focused on fixing the issue during this week of practice with the coaching staff and extrapolated on his preparation for Kansas City’s Week 3 matchup against the Bears.

“Just been working on it this week to clean it up. Definitely know that’s a problem that needs to be fixed,” Taylor continued. “Good thing I have a great group of coaches around me to help me fix it. Just staying poised throughout the game and staying even-keeled, not letting it get the best of me. Definitely working to fix it.”

Despite Taylor’s struggles in week two, the Chiefs were able to find a way to defeat Jacksonville. Taylor acknowledged this point and was impressed with how the team carried itself without executing at a high level.

“Just [shows] our coaching, having a great group of coaches like that,” Taylor said. “They keep us up throughout the week and let us know things happen, but at the end of the day we just [have] to go out there and get a win. Everybody knows that, so I feel like everyone plays with great poise.”

The Chiefs have a favorable matchup against the Chicago Bears, which should be a great opportunity for Kansas City’s offense to get back on track.

2 potential rule changes will be tested in 2020 NFL Pro Bowl

The NFL will be testing two potential rule changes during the 2020 Pro Bowl in Orlando.

The NFL Pro Bowl is more than an opportunity for the league’s top talent to showcase their skills, it’s also a chance for potential rule changes to be tested in a game-day atmosphere.

Two potential rule changes will be tested at this year’s NFL Pro Bowl in Orlando, per NFL Operations.

The first involves two options after a successful field goal or try attempt in lieu of a kickoff. The second relates to negating false starts on a flinch by a flexed receiver.

Here’s a look at the language of the two new proposed rule changes. More in-depth explanations and notes can be found at the Football Operations website.

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl is set to kick off Sunday, Jan. 26 from Camping World Stadium in Orlando.

Three Seahawks have been named to the NFC squad – quarterback Russell Wilson, linebacker Bobby Wagner and alternate cornerback Shaquill Griffin as a replacement player.

Pete Carroll and the Seahawks staff will be coaching the NFC roster.

Texans LT Laremy Tunsil feels he has a target on his back for officials to call false starts

Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil feels like he has a target on his back for officials to call false starts.

Houston Texans left tackle Laremy Tunsil led the NFL with nine false starts coming into Week 14.

Add another three to the former 2016 first-round pick’s total, and it safe to say he will also lead the league when Week 15 kicks off.

Tunsil told reporters after the Texans’ 38-24 loss to the Denver Broncos Sunday at NRG Stadium that he believes the false starts are due to a target being on his back.

Each of Tunsil’s three false starts led to the Texans’ drive stalling. The only one that didn’t wasn’t his second such penalty in the second quarter right before time expired.

It could be that Tunsil has a target on his back. However, the target seems to have gotten there thanks to some poor play on the former Miami Dolphins’ part as well. Nonetheless, it is an issue the Texans will have to correct or overcome as they gear up for the final three games of the season with two coming against the Tennessee Titans.
