Crowder does not appear to be alone in wanting an extension. New Pistons sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanović, 33, is said to be seeking a new multiyear contract, which league sources say dissuaded some interested teams from pushing harder to try to acquire him from the Jazz as Bogdanović plays out this season on an expiring $19.3 million deal.

The 33-year-old forward brings eight years of NBA experience and several years of professional overseas basketball experience to the Pistons. Bogdanovic said he knew he’d be dealt by Utah, which blew up its entire roster during the offseason in order to rebuild, but he wasn’t sure where he’d land. “I kind of knew that I was going to be traded. I was just waiting to see where I’m gonna end up,” Bogdanovic said Tuesday after the Pistons’ first practice of training camp. “Super excited to be here with this young group of guys and a coach that is really experienced. Everything is great so far.” -via Detroit News / September 28, 2022
“I gotta do what I do,” Bogdanovic said. “I’m going to be in every single game. I imagine I’m the oldest guy in here, I think, in the room. I have to be more present vocally. I gotta talk to young guys and try to direct them in the right direction, but my mindset is going to be the same. I want to be in every single game that I play.” As the oldest player on the Pistons’ roster — and with valuable playoff experience — Bogdanovic will provide an added boost in 3-point shooting and create space for Cunningham and Ivey to operate inside the arc. His willingness to make it back to the United States in time for the first day of training camp is also notable. “That says a lot about how he feels about Detroit,” Casey said. -via Detroit News / September 28, 2022

But during a moment of candor at the Heat’s ongoing training camp at the Baha Mar resort, away from the glare of cameras, there was greater candor. He is involved — or at least has been involved. And, yes, the money matters. “I was active early in the summer,” he told the South Florida Sun Sentinel of the extension window that opened in July. “Then I realized it wasn’t going to get done, if it does get done, until later. So I just told my agent to call me when it’s ready. “So we haven’t really spoken much about the contract. Obviously, I tell him to call me when it’s ready. If it’s not ready, I continue to play my game and figure it out next summer.” -via South Florida Sun-Sentinel / September 29, 2022
Tyler Herro on poor 2022-23 playoffs: “I had my groin injury. That was one thing, but that happened later in the playoffs. I still wasn’t playing well at the beginning of the playoffs. I think part of it had to do with finding out I’m having another kid. That was a lot mentally. It was just the timing of it, but it is what it is, and I’m back ready to hoop, and obviously the playoffs didn’t go the way I wanted it to, but it’s another year and another crack at it.” -via YouTube / September 28, 2022

Robert Williams has since become a star at the center position, and the Celtics have benefited. His health remains a concern, though he has been said to be 100% here in the offseason, according to a source. Grant Williams has been more reliable in terms of health, and has played nearly 70 games per season since entering the NBA in 2019. -via Heavy.com / September 20, 2022
But Boston can head off any issues going forward by giving Grant Williams an extension now. The consensus around the league had been than Grant Williams would get what Robert Williams got, something in the range of four years and $48 million, and maybe around $55 million with incentives. Grant Williams will likely ask for more, though—four years and $55-60 million or so, according to rival team executives. -via Heavy.com / September 20, 2022

Michael Scotto: To my understanding, there’s no rush for Cleveland to do anything right now regarding a Caris LeVert contract extension. Chris Fedor: I think, ultimately, it’s going to be hard for both sides to get an extension done because the feeling inside the organization right now is that Caris is going to want too much, and they don’t know what his role is going to be and how he’s going to fit with Mitchell coming on board. The Cavaliers are open to whatever. If they can get him on a team-friendly deal, I definitely think they’ll consider and explore it. I just don’t see an extension coming for LeVert.

As their futures in Brooklyn remain very much in doubt with the new season fast approaching, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving worked out together on Saturday with Hawks guard Trae Young and a number of other NBA players including former Nets wing Caris LeVert and Heat guard Victor Oladipo. -via Sports Illustrated / August 20, 2022
“There are multiple people inside the organization that if they have their choice between Caris LeVert and Collin Sexton, they would take Caris over Collin because of the size, because of the length, because of the versatility that he can bring on the defensive end of the floor,” Chris Fedor said on the Zach Lowe podcast. “And they liked what they saw with Caris and Darius together. Obviously, the numbers back that up.” -via Spotify / July 29, 2022

“There’s a business side of it which you open your eyes to and then there’s the personal side of it which you have to open your eyes to. There’s always a balance between the two. Definitely as the summer goes on, and we can call a spade a spade. All these trade rumors going around. That’s the business side of it and you have to expect a team to do what’s in their best interests and you have to expect individual people, in turn, to do what’s in their best interests, but the bottom line is I’ve really loved my time here and if we can get something done, I’d be very happy about it.”

Grant Williams optimistic he will get an extension with Boston

“Just making sure that the extension works for both sides. My number one focus is winning,” says Williams. “You take care of the good guys. You take care of the guys that provide value to your team, both on and off the floor. I feel like the Celtics are feeling the same way. I’m not too stressed about the negotiations because I feel like both parties want to get a deal done.”

Zach Lowe and Tim MacMahon appear to be in agreement that their reporting suggests RJ Barrett won’t be a dealbreaker in the Utah Jazz discussions on a Donovan Mitchell trade with the New York Knicks. “The Jazz desire to get him is unclear to me,” said Zach Lowe. “He might not be the dealbreaker people think it is.” -via RealGM / July 16, 2022
The Knicks naturally hope to complete the actual acquisition of Donovan Mitchell now without surrendering more than, say, four or five of those eight future firsts and by keeping RJ Barrett out of the deal. While Barrett’s exclusion is likely fine with the Jazz, Utah (gulp) is said to want at least six of the eight picks. -via marcstein.substack.com / July 15, 2022
The Heat made an offer weeks ago for Mitchell that included nearly all of those pieces, but the Jazz found it insufficient. At that time, sources tell the Tribune, the Jazz and Heat agreed that a third team that might be necessary in the trade in order to bring more value to the Jazz — likely meaning that the Heat would have to send veteran pieces elsewhere to get younger player or pick value in return. -via Salt Lake Tribune / July 14, 2022
At least one voice in the Jazz’s front office prefers Herro as a return to Barrett, according to a source. Essentially, Tyler Herro’s likelihood of being a cheaper contract moving forward and his more advanced shooting stroke are reasons for optimism. RJ Barrett, to be sure, is longer, younger, and has much more defensive potential, though. -via Salt Lake Tribune / July 14, 2022
