Italy’s Leonardo Bonucci savagely yelled ‘It’s coming to Rome!’ after Euro win and fans loved it

World class troll job here.

England and Italy played a phenomenal Euro 2020 championship match Sunday at Wembley Statdium in London, one that wasn’t decided until penalty kicks where Italy prevailed thanks to three great saves by their goalie, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

England and its fans have spent the past few weeks singing and repeating their rallying cry, “It’s coming home,” which is based off an old song about football coming home to the country where it was born.

The huge crowd at Wembley hoped that they’d witness history on Sunday and that football would come home but that didn’t happen and it must be heartbreaking for them and the players, who fell just short.

But Italy was sure happy to get the win and become champions. Leonardo Bonucci, whose second-half goal evened the game at 1-1, had fun yelling into the camera “It’s coming to Rome!” after the win was secured.

Ouch!

Check this out:

That’s too funny. Unless you’re an England supporter. Then that probably hurts a lot.

Twitter had reactions:

So many ticketless fans breached Wembley grounds in massive security failure at Euro 2020 Final

Not great!

Between the men’s singles Wimbledon Final and the Euro 2020 Final, Sunday was an absolutely massive sports day in London. The exact kind of day — with major events around the city — that one would expect to see a staggering level of security.

That didn’t appear to be the case, though.

In the lead-up to Sunday’s final between England and Italy, the scene around Wembley Stadium turned hectic when hundreds of fans (if not more), breached security gates and stormed past helpless stewards to enter the stadium grounds.

At one point, police officers on horseback responded to the breach, but fans continued to storm into the stadium without tickets.

Denmark’s Euro 2020 run ended after England drew an awfully questionable penalty

A rough way to lose.

For the first time in its history, England is heading to the final of the European Championship. But it did come under some dubious circumstances.

In front of a crowd of 60,000 at Wembley, England defeated Denmark, 2-1, in extra time of their Euro 2020 semifinal matchup.

For Denmark, it was a difficult end to an otherwise remarkable run that started after Christian Eriksen’s cardiac emergency during the group stages. And while Denmark has every reason to be proud of what it accomplished in the tournament, it’s difficult to overlook *how* that run came to an end.

In extra time, England’s Raheem Sterling drew a penalty on a foul that really didn’t look like a foul at all.

Jorginho sent Italy to the Euro 2020 Final with the absolute calmest penalty attempt

Ice cold.

It’s difficult to imagine a stronger and faster comeback on the international soccer stage than what Italy is pulling off. And it has a chance to get even better.

Just four years after missing out its first World Cup since 1958, Italy is heading to the UEFA Euro 2020 Final after Tuesday’s 1-1 win over Spain in penalties. The Azzurri will face the winner of England-Denmark.

But it’s how Italy won the shootout that has everyone talking.

Moments after Alvaro Morata — who came off the bench to score the equalizing goal for Spain in regulation — was stopped on a dreadful penalty attempt from the spot, Chelsea’s Jorginho stepped up to take the decisive penalty.

And from how Jorginho took the shot, you’d never know that he was under any pressure at all.

This Switzerland fan turned into the best meme after his team’s game-tying goal in Euro 2020

The duality of sports fandom, now in meme form.

Euro 2020 has been a rollercoaster of emotions for soccer fans over the last few weeks. We’ve seen shocking ties between rivals and embarrassing own-goals, but maybe nothing will compare to what Switzerland just did to their fans.

On Monday, during the first knockout rounds of Euro 2020, Switzerland was down 3-1 after the 75th minute on Paul Pogba’s goal in the second half. Facing down elimination, Switzerland was able to get within one on Haris Seferovic’s second of the game at 81 minutes, then the team was able to tie the game 3-3 just before the 90th minute to get to extra time.

It’s an incredible comeback for the Swiss in one of the best matches of the tournament we’ve seen yet.

That brings us to this one Swiss fan who has now captured the heart of soccer fans everywhere, as he was originally shown on the broadcast in the final minute of play in clear agony and heartbreak at the team’s likely loss. Then, after Switzerland’s tying goal, the broadcast panned back to the fan, who was suddenly shirtless and screaming in absolute joy.

It’s an incredible showcase of the duality of sports, captured just mere minutes apart.

Of course, as always, Twitter had a blast turning this fan into a new meme.

Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon allowed the most embarrassing own goal in Euro 2020

Oh no.

Spain watched as Slovakia’s goalkeeper punched the ball into his own net just last week at Euro 2020.

And now, they had an awful own goal of their own courtesy of their goalkeeper, Unai Simon.

While facing Croatia in the Round of 16, a defender sent the ball back to Simon … and completely whiffed on handling it after it bounced off his foot. The ball went straight past him and into the net, and of course Croatia’s fans went nuts.

That’s just brutal. Spain equalized the score 18 minutes later, which probably helped cushion the blow of this mistake, but … man, this isn’t good.

Oof.

Slovakia goalkeeper gifted Spain a goal after he accidentally punched the ball into his own net

Not great!

Spain entered Wednesday’s final day of Group E action in need of three points after a pair of draws to start its Euro 2020 (taking place in 2021) campaign.

Well, Slovakia goalkeeper Martin Dubravka did Spain a solid in the first half with one of the more embarrassing own goals you’ll ever see.

With the match scoreless in 30th minute, Pablo Sarabia’s shot attempt hit the crossbar and went straight up in the air. Dubravka appeared to be in perfect position to simply punch the ball over the bar and concede the corner.

But Dubravka tragically mistimed his jump and, uh, did this instead …

He punched the ball right into his own net. Like, what?

My colleague, Andy Nesbitt, loves to mock soccer goalkeepers with some variation of “he should tip the ball over the bar” whenever a goal gets conceded. But Dubravka tried to take that advice, and it didn’t work!

Spain would add another goal to go up 2-0 at halftime.

Soccer fans had a field day after Scotland drew England to a 0-0 tie to keep their Euro 2020 hopes alive

Scotland’s surprise draw against England prompted intense reaction from fans.

Friday’s Euro 2020 match between rivals England and Scotland was one of the most anticipated games of the group stages. Unfortunately for soccer fans, the match fell flat, as England and Scotland played to a 0-0 draw after 92 minutes of game time.

The result was a surprise, as England was slated as the favorites for this match, with Scotland nabbing their first point of the Euro 2020 group stages thanks to the draw. England, meanwhile, bungled a great chance to secure the group stage lead after their 1-0 win over Croatia last weekend.

The 0-0 draw for Scotland somehow keeps their Euro 2020 hopes alive, as that one single point means the team is still in position to nab the third place spot in Group D — and possibly advance — if they can manage to win against Croatia on Tuesday. As such, Twitter had an absolute ball clowning on England for the suboptimal result, bringing the jokes in the wake of the draw.

Soccer fans made so many Luis Suarez jokes after Antonio Rudiger’s apparent bite of Paul Pogba

So, this happened.

It really isn’t a major international soccer tournament without a high-profile biting incident. So, in that respect, the UEFA Euro 2020 (taking place in 2021) has already fulfilled the requirement.

And no, Luis Suarez was not involved.

Late in the first half of Tuesday’s Group F clash between Germany and France at Allianz Arena in Munich, France star Paul Pogba shouted in pain and appealed to the referees about Germany’s Antonio Rudiger.

Though the incident was not taken to red-card review in VAR, replays did show that the Chelsea defender appeared to bite Pogba on the shoulder. Whether it met the standard of an actual bite is debatable, but it sure looked like a bite.

You be the judge:

Again, Rudiger was not carded for the incident, but UEFA may give it a closer look after the match.

In the meantime, soccer fans predictably responded with a ton of Luis Suarez jokes — given his prolific biting history.
