Indiana Hoosiers fans thrive on ESPN College Gameday

From honoring Lee Corso and the 1979 Indiana Hoosiers, to MLB All-Star Kyle Schwarber in the house, ESPN’s College GameDay had it all in Week 9.

ESPN’s College Gameday returned to the Midwest with a visit to Bloomington, Indiana for the Washington Huskies against the Indiana Hoosiers in Big Ten action.

Nick Saban, Rece Davis, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee shone in a town that had not seen College Gameday since 2017, and for only the second time ever.

The crew pulled out everything from the first minute, including recognizing Corso and the 1979 Holiday Bowl team. In that game, the Hoosiers (7-4) upset the No. 9 BYU Cougars 38-37 on a 62-yard punt return touchdown and blocked field goal attempt with seven seconds left.

Indiana would not go to another bowl game until 1986.

Corso and his former players and coaches got a segment in the first 30 minutes of College Gameday, as well as plenty of shine live on set. Bloomington mayor Kerry Thomson was there to announce that October 26, 2024 would be ‘Lee Corso Day.’

It was a great pre-game show that showcased the Hoosiers and their history-making season. Let’s look and hear the sights and sounds from ESPN College Gameday with the Hoosiers.

McAfee was hyped to be in Bloomington, but that is also just a mindset for the ESPN show host and former punter.

It’s easy to forget that some fans never leave. The Hoosiers have been more bad than good, but the foundation for generations of fans is there.

ESPN ‘College GameDay’ crew makes picks for Oregon Ducks vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

The ESPN College GameDay crew made their official picks for the top-25 showdown between No. 1 Oregon and No. 20 Illinois.

The No. 1 Oregon Ducks have a major opportunity on Saturday afternoon inside Autzen Stadium. With the No. 20 Illinois Fighting Illini coming to town, Dan Lanning and his team have a chance to establish themselves as the best team in the nation and assert some dominance.

The Ducks have done a good job of that so far this year, winning every game on their schedule and looking dominant in the past two weeks against both Ohio State and Purdue. Now the eyes of the world will be back on them in Eugene with another top-25 matchup on tap.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” was in Indiana for the matchup between the Hoosiers and the Washington Huskies, but they still spent some time on this game and previewed what will go down.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” crew made its picks for Saturday’s winner in the Autzen. Here’s how they selected:

Desmond Howard: Oregon
Pat McAfee: Oregon
Nick Saban: Oregon
Guest Picker Kyle Schwarber: Oregon
Lee Corso: Oregon
Kirk Herbstreit: Oregon

The game between Oregon and Indiana kicks off at 12:30 p.m. PT on CBS in Eugene, Oregon.

If you’re a college football fan, of course you’re aware that every Saturday morning is a big deal: that’s because you’re sitting down to watch ESPN’s College GameDay as you get ready for that day’s games.

It’s always fun to see where the show travels to during the season, with rabid fanbases designing wild signs to root on their team and troll others, and to see who Lee Corso will pick with which headgear to put on if he’s there.

If you’re here, you’re probably wondering: Where is GameDay this week in 2024?

With Week 9 kicking off on Saturday, the show will be in Bloomington, Indiana for Indiana and Washington, a matchup of two Big 10 teams — The Hoosiers are 7-0 and the Huskies are 4-3 on the year.

Where is ESPN College GameDay in Week 9?

Here’s where ESPN College GameDay will be for Week 9.

ESPN and ‘College GameDay’ announced where it would be for Week 9 of the college football season this Saturday.

It’s a location the GameDay crew has never been before. The crew of Rece Davis, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Nick Saban and Pat McAfee will be in Bloomington, Ind., for the 13th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers’ Big Ten contest against the Washington Huskies.

The game will kick off at noon ET on Big Ten Network. Indiana is 7-0 for the first time since 1967. That year, the Hoosiers started 8-0 and earned an invitation to the Rose Bowl to face the USC Trojans.

Washington is 4-3 under first-year coach Jedd Fisch. Indiana is also in its first season under a new coach in Curt Cignetti, a former Saban assistant at Alabama who was the Crimson Tide’s recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach from 2007-10.

The trip to Bloomington is sure to be an emotional one for Corso in particular. The 89-year-old college football and ‘GameDay’ icon coached at Indiana for 10 seasons from 1973-82.

Other Top 25 matchups in Week 9 include the No. 17 Missouri Tigers vs. the No. 15 Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, No. 11 Notre Dame vs. No. 24 Navy (at MetLife Stadium), No. 21 Illinois at the No. 1 Oregon Ducks, and the No. 6 Texas Longhorns at No. 25 Vanderbilt .

Could Clemson be a ‘GameDay’ destination?

The Clemson Tigers have three home games remaining on their 2024 slate, two of which are against Power Four conference members in the Louisville Cardinals and the in-state rivalry with South Carolina. Neither would seem a likely destination for the GameDay crew.

Clemson (6-1) has a bye this week before Louisville visits Death Valley on Nov. 2. Kickoff time and broadcast/TV information for the game have not been announced. The Tigers are ranked No. 9 in this week’s Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll.

‘College GameDay’ announces Week 9 location

ESPN’s “College GameDay” has decided where it will be for Week 9’s college football action

ESPN’s “College GameDay” announced where it will be for Week 9 of the 2024 college football season. The GameDay team plans to attend the Washington Huskies at Indiana Hoosiers game.

Undefeated Indiana is 7-0 and ranked 13th in the US LBM Coaches Poll. Indiana is a dark horse team to make the College Football Playoff. If the Hoosiers go 4-1 over their final five games, they would almost be a lock to make the playoff.

This will be the first time GameDay has gone to Bloomington, Indiana, for a Saturday game. Other top Week 9 games were Notre Dame at Navy, Illinois at Oregon, Missouri at Alabama, Texas at Vanderbilt and LSU at Texas A&M. Week 9 has a number of sneaky good matchups.

Last week, GameDay was at the Georgia-Texas game. Georgia proved the GameDay crew wrong on the field after everyone on GameDay predicted Georgia would lose.

Indiana’s remaining schedule is at home versus Washington, at Michigan State, versus Michigan, at Ohio State and versus Purdue. Indiana star quarterback Kurtis Rourke is out for the Washington game and may also miss the Michigan game.

GameDay will begin coverage at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday, Oct. 26. Nick Saban, Kirk Herbstreit, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Lee Corso and Pat McAfee serve as college football analysts for GameDay. Later in the week, we will know who the guest picker for Washington-Indiana will be.

[lawrence-auto-related count=2]

There’s a chance GameDay will attend two other Georgia football games this fall (at Ole Miss and vs. Tennessee). Ole Miss already has two losses, so that game is probably the less likely of the two. The Tennessee Volunteers earned a massive win over Alabama in Week 8. If the Volunteers and Bulldogs keep winning, GameDay could be heading to Athens for Georgia’s Nov. 16 game against Tennessee.

Where is Nick Saban, ESPN College GameDay in Week 9?

Here’s where College GameDay and Nick Saban will be in Week 9.

ESPN and College GameDay have announced its destination for Week 9 of the 2024 college football season, and it’s a place that the crew of Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Nick Saban, Pat McAfee and company have never visited as a unit.

The GameDay crew will be in Bloomington for the Indiana Hoosiers’ Big Ten matchup with the Washington Huskies this Saturday, marking a return to Corso’s former stomping grounds as head coach. Corso led the Hoosiers’ program from 1973-1982.

Indiana’s game against Washington marks the first time the Hoosiers have ever hosted GameDay (at least in football). Indiana is 7-0 and ranked No. 13 in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll after crushing the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 56-7, last Saturday.

The Hoosiers have won every game this season by at least two scores. Their smallest margin of victory was a 42-28 win over Mike Locksley’s Maryland Terrapins back on Sept. 28.

Indiana is coached by Curt Cignetti, a former Saban assistant at Alabama from 2007-2010 who was the Crimson Tide’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. Cignetti was at ‘Bama during the recruitment of program-defining stars like Julio Jones, Mark Ingram and others from the Tide’s celebrated 2008 recruiting class.

RELATED: A look at the expansive coaching tree under the legendary Nick Saban

Cignetti previously coached at James Madison for five seasons before accepting the Indiana job in November 2023.

For Saban, who has been must-see TV each Saturday morning for his various anecdotes, analysis and sharp wit, it will mark his first visit to Bloomington since his days as Michigan State’s head coach.

From 1995-99, Saban compiled a 4-0 record vs. the Hoosiers. He led the Spartans to a 31-13 victory in Bloomington in his first season at Michigan State in 1995, and a 38-6 win at Indiana in 1997.

As for Washington, the Huskies are 4-3 in Jedd Fisch’s first season in Seattle. Fisch, the former Arizona Wildcats coach, was tapped to replace Kalen DeBoer after leading Arizona to a 10-win season and Alamo Bowl victory over the Oklahoma Sooners last season.

Kickoff for Washington vs. Indiana is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT. The game will be televised on Big Ten Network.

In Tuscaloosa, No. 15 Alabama hosts No. 17 Missouri at 2:30 p.m. in Week 9. The game will be televised on ABC.

Is ESPN College GameDay coming to Wisconsin vs. Penn State in Week 9?

Is ESPN College GameDay coming to Wisconsin vs. No. 3 Penn State in Week 9?

The Wisconsin Badgers (5-2, 3-1 Big Ten) exit Week 8 winners of three consecutive games — 52-6 over Purdue, 42-7 over Rutgers and a 23-3 triumph over Northwestern.

They return home to host No. 3 Penn State (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) in Week 9. The game, which is a primetime national broadcast on NBC, has quickly become one of the biggest of the sport’s Week 9 schedule.

Other notable matchups include Nebraska at No. 4 Ohio State, No. 12 Notre Dame at No. 24 Navy, No. 20 Illinois at No. 1 Oregon, No. 21 Missouri at No. 16 Alabama, No. 5 Texas at No. 25 Vanderbilt and No. 8 LSU at No. 14 Texas A&M.

College GameDay will not be visiting any of the listed matchups. It also won’t be in Madison, Wisconsin for the Badgers’ big game against the Nittany Lions.

GameDay announced on Sunday that it would be traveling to Bloomington, Indiana for No. 13 Indiana (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) against Washington (4-3, 2-2 Big Ten).

Indiana enters off a statement 56-7 victory over Nebraska. Starting QB Kurtis Rourke was injured during the win, and is now expected to miss the Washington game. But that storyline won’t overshadow Indiana becoming the talk of the college football world.

Head coach Curt Cignetti has the Hoosiers on the doorstep of College Football Playoff contention in only his first season on the job — that after taking over a program that went 3-9 in the final year under Tom Allen in 2023.

Wisconsin could potentially host GameDay in mid-November when No. 1 Oregon comes to town. The Badgers would need a win over Penn State or Iowa, or both, in order to generate sufficient hype before the matchup.

For now, the Badgers are still a step away from the national spotlight.

College GameDay announces another first time site for Week 9

The Indiana Hoosiers will host ESPN College GameDay for the first time in Week 9, a return to his old home for Lee Corso.

ESPN College GameDay heads to Bloomington for the first time in program history in Week 9 for a Big Ten matchup between the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers and the Washington Huskies, last year’s national championship runner-ups.

Lee Corso, the longtime GameDay broadcaster who returned this past weekend after a health related absence, will finally return home.

Corso coached at Indiana from 1973-1982, going 41-68-2 as head coach which included a No. 19 ranking in the AP Poll and a Holiday Bowl victory both in 1979.

The Hoosiers are 7-0 under new head coach Curt Cignetti, who has lit a fire under this program after coming over from James Madison. The Hoosiers blasted Nebraska on Sunday, winning 56-7 over a team that was 5-1 coming into the contest.

At this point Indiana is on the periphery of the College Football Playoff picture, with some concerned the team’s strength of schedule is partly responsible for the team’s hot start. Still, Indiana hasn’t been skating by but rather blowing teams out, with the closest margin of victory coming against Maryland – a game the Hoosiers won 42-28.

Washington has been average so far this season, sitting at 4-3 and 2-2 in Big Ten play, but Indiana may have to get past the Huskies without starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke – who exited Saturday’s game against the Cornhuskers with an injury.

The game kicks off at 12:00 PM ET on Saturday, October 26th on the Big Ten Network.

Best moments and highlights from ESPN College GameDay’s visit to the UT campus

ESPN College GameDay’s visit to the UT campus for the Texas vs. Georgia game was epic. Check out the best videos, highlights and moments.

It was an epic episode of the most popular college football preview show in the world. ESPN College GameDay on the South Mall of the UT campus will live in the memory banks of Longhorns fans for years to come.

Today’s College GameDay featured the return of Lee Corso. It also had Scottie Scheffler as guest picker and plenty of antics by Pat McAfee.

There were also hundreds of signs, a College GameDay tradition.

And what a perfect setting. The stage was set up just behind the Littlefield Fountain with the South Mall leading to the UT Tower as the backdrop. Fans filled that corridor up the hill to the tower.

It was also cool having Nick Saban as part of the crew. Of course both Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and Georgia coach Kirby Smart both worked for Saban at Alabama. Sark even dropped by the set for a segment.
