A horrible Maryland fumble sparked an all-time call from Fox Sports’ Eric Collins

“What a bad idea!”

Fox Sports broadcaster Eric Collins delivered an instant classic of a call during a disastrous fumble during USC-Maryland on Saturday.

Rather than spike the ball and stop the clock in Trojan territory as time ticked down before halftime, Maryland tried to hurry to the line to get a play off.

The plan backfired spectacularly on the Terrapins, as the ball ricocheted off Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr.’s hands after a long snap and was recovered by USC defensive end Solomon Tuliaupupu.

Collins was so baffled by the decision throughout, and his reaction to the fumble itself will go down in college football history. He sounded like he was watching the worst college football play of all time. It was kind of beautiful to hear how genuinely stunned he was.

“What a bad idea!” is one of the funniest things ever said on a college football broadcast as far as we’re concerned. The fumble was atrocious for Maryland, but the call from Collins is a genuine all-timer.

Hornets broadcaster’s bonkers call of Karl-Anthony Towns’ 3-pointer summed up his monster game

Same, Eric Collins. Same.

You know you’ve had a good night on the court when even the opposing team’s broadcast crew freaks out when you do something good.

During Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns’ incredible home performance against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night, broadcaster Eric Collins couldn’t help but openly marvel at Towns scoring a whopping 44 points in the first half as the former called the game for Charlotte.

During one of the many 3-pointers the Timberwolves player hit during the first half, Collins went wild on the Hornets broadcast for one of the best commentaries we’ve gotten for an NBA moment this year.

Seriously, this is just beyond delightful.

Collins is a pro’s pro, and he was the perfect person to sum up how everyone at home felt watching this sensational performance from Towns.

Coupled with Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid’s 70-point night, it was a heck of a night in the NBA for those who love offense. Thankfully, people like Collins were around to help us remember it.

West Virginia-UCF broadcast didn’t drop an F-bomb over this interception, but it sure sounded like it

Eric Collins was just excited, but he didn’t drop an F-bomb.

You know when you hear something WILD on a sports broadcast and do a double-take, wondering if you heard that exactly right? Well, that’s what happened to a lot of college football fans Saturday during West Virginia’s road game at UCF.

Early in the second quarter with the Knights trailing, 10-7, things got a little rough for them. On first-and-10 from West Virginia’s 37-yard line, UCF quarterback John Rhys Plumlee was picked off by West Virginia cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr. for a 31-yard return.

This wasn’t any average interception. Plumlee threw deep to the right sideline, aiming for receiver Javon Baker around the five-yard line. The ball bounced hard in and out of Baker’s arms, and as it shot back up into the air, Bishop pulled it down.

It was a wild interception, and Fox Sports broadcaster Eric Collins on the play-by-play delivered an awesome call of the moment. As his voice was filled with excitement, he described the play: “What a funky interception that was!”

But it sure sounded like an F-bomb.

The first time you hear it, it sure sounds like a NSFW moment on air. But go back and listen to it again, and it’s clear Collins says “funky.”

That was the reaction of many college football fans the first time they heard it, and some are still convinced Collins dropped an F-bomb instead.

Eric Collins’ voice nearly broke as he called this improbable UCF 4th-down conversion

“IT’S CAAAAAUUUUUUGGGHHHHT!”

Veteran broadcaster Eric Collins always knows how to accentuate an exciting moment in a football game, but his call of this absolutely improbable University of Central Florida fourth-down conversion is one of his best.

As UCF faced down 4th-and-five with 1:02 left in its game against Baylor, the Knights trailed by a point and absolutely needed to get the first down.

Quarterback Timmy McClain decided to defy the laws of football physics by scrambling all the way back to his team’s end zone from around the 30-yard line, avoiding the safety and moving up just a few yards to make the mind-blowing throw to running back R.J. Harvey for the conversion.

The way Collins guided viewers through the dramatics of the play was spectacular, and the “What do ya got, McClain?” quote all the way to his voice almost breaking when Harvey hauled in the pass was just special.

UCF wasn’t able to get points out of this wild sequence, but it doesn’t take away from the spectacular throw from McClain and the unforgettable narration from Collins on the “unbelievable” conversion.

WATCH: Hornets announcer loses his mind following insane Miles Bridges dunk

Name a better duo than Miles Bridges and Charlotte Hornets play-by-play announcer Eric Collins. The former Spartan is, in my opinion, the most exciting in-game dunker in the NBA, and he has the perfect announcer to showcase his talents in Collins.

On Wednesday night, in a game the Hornets won over the Grizzlies, Bridges had Collins losing his mind following a completely insane alley-oop finish.

Miles Bridges’ filthy dunk made the Hornets play-by-play announcer lose his mind

“MY MIND IS BLOWN!”

Miles Bridges served up the biggest dunk we’ve seen in some time for the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday, and it made play-by-play announcer Eric Collins go wild.

In the dying seconds of the second quarter of the Hornets match against the Portland Trail Blazers — with Charlotte leading 63-51 — Bridges took the ball from nearly half court straight through to the basket. With no one to defend him, Bridges went up and over CJ McCollum’s head for the stylish one-handed dunk.

It was a great play made even better by Collins’ call, who predictably lost his mind on the dunk.

“MY MIND IS BLOWN! MILES BRIDGES, HOW DO YOU DO?”

This isn’t the first time Collins’ enthusiasm has made a play stand out even more so than normal. In fact, it’s the reason Collins is so beloved as a play-by-play announcer for Charlotte.

As long as Bridges and the Hornets continue to serve up mind-blowing plays, Collins will be there to go wild on them.

This Hornets play-by-play announcer went crazy during LaMelo Ball’s big game against the Rockets

What a call.

LaMelo Ball has been on a tear lately. He’s started in his last five games for the Hornets and he’s averaging 22.6 points per game, 6.6 assists and 6.0 rebounds while shooting a cool 56% from three.

Safe to say, he’s been pretty good. And he continued that trend against the Rockets on Monday night with a 24 point, 10 assist night.

It wasn’t just the numbers, though. It was how much fun it was watching him get those numbers. He just made the game look so easy. There were a bunch of slick passes and no-look lobs mixed in with 7 crazy 3-pointers mixed in. It was just fun to watch.

He also made a bit of history, becoming the youngest player in NBA history with 7 made 3-pointers in a game.

He was so good, that Hornets announcer Eric Collins — who always goes wild on the call — came up with a new catchphrase for the Hornets rookie.

He’s living LaMelo Loco.

Man, that’s so good. And very well-deserved. LaMelo Ball is playing out of his mind right now.

Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come in Charlotte.

LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges record double-doubles, connect for insane alley-oop in win

LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges did it again on Monday, linking up for a huge alley-oop and both recording double-doubles in a big win.

The play-by-play announcer for the Charlotte Hornets, Eric Collins, has started to gain some much-deserved publicity this season for his excited and energetic narrations for the Hornets. Part of that has been because of his great work as a broadcaster, but part of that has also been the content of the games.

This season, the NBA has seen the emergence of new star duo LaMelo Ball and former Michigan State Basketball standout Miles Bridges, and they have become a daily highlight reel for the Hornets and have really helped Charlotte A) Stay in playoff contention and B) become one of the most fun teams in the league.

On Monday, the pair did it again with another insane alley-oop dunk from Ball to Bridges in a 119-94 win over the Houston Rockets. LaMelo had 24 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds while Bridges added 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Charlotte Hornets announcer Eric Collins goes off during LaMelo Ball’s career night

The Charlotte Hornets announcer brings the electricity to LaMelo Ball’s big night

The advantage of Charlotte being on NBA TV for the night is new eyeballs on the Hornets and LaMelo Ball, a team that has been at the top of the excitement rankings so far this year.

With a rare national TV game tonight at the Spectrum Center, the Hornets (12-13) used a 21-4 burst at the start of the fourth quarter to beat the Houston Rockets (11-12) 119-94. At the center of it all was NBA Rookie of the Year Award frontrunner LaMelo Ball, who splashed home a career-high 7 threes and finished with a game-high 24 points to go along with 10 dimes.

It wasn’t only LaMelo who wowed the national television audience. Hornets broadcaster Eric Collins, known for his passion and energy night in and night out, blew up on Twitter as the Miles Bridges-LaMelo Ball chemistry was in full effect. Whether it be “LaMelo Ball with his hair on fire,” or a signature “how do you do,” from Mr. Collins, the national TV audience got a taste of what Hornets fans get to enjoy every game: the most excited announcer in the NBA.

There may be no better NBA League Pass team in the league when you combine the young talent in Buzz City and the broadcasting duo of Collins and former Hornet sharpshooter Dell Curry.

Who else in the word can make the name Miles Bridges this exciting?

Ball was feeling it early and often from distance, and Collins made sure the people knew:

The Twitter reaction was rampant as fans and media members finally got to experience how engaging Collins is on the call:

Anytime LaMelo Ball and the Hornets are at their best, you might want to tune in just to hear what the great Eric Collins is cooking up.
