OL EIijah Wilkinson heads to IR with neck injury

Wilkinson, who started at left guard for the Cardinals’ first six games, will be out until at least Thanksgiving.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a few roster moves on Saturday in preparation for their Week 8 home matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. One puts offensive lineman Elijah Wilkinson out of commission for at least a month.

They placed Wilkinson on injured reserve with a neck injury. He missed last week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks after getting hurt during the week.

He started the first six games of the season at left guard.

With this move, he will miss at least the games against the Ravens, Browns, Falcons and Steelers.

He could return at the earliest when the Cardinal host the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12.

LG Elijah Wilkinson signs one-year deal with Cardinals

Former #Falcons LG Elijah Wilkinson has signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals

Last week, the Atlanta Falcons signed former Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Josh Miles, and now the Cardinals have returned the favor by signing former Falcons lineman Elijah Wilkinson.

Atlanta signed Wilkinson to a one-year deal last offseason and he won the starting left guard job out of training camp. The 28-year-old started nine games for the Falcons last season, missing some time after landing on the injured reserve list due to a knee injury.

Without Wilkinson, the team could look to address the position in free agency or the upcoming 2023 NFL draft. In-house options to fill in at left guard include Matt Hennessy, Jalen Mayfield and Justin Shaffer.

The Falcons did invest considerable cash into the offensive line, extending right guard Chris Lindstrom and re-signing right tackle Kaleb McGary. Left tackle Jake Matthews signed a three-year extension last offseason.

The Cardinals add another experienced veteran to the offensive line room with a lot of starting experience.

The Arizona Cardinals did not announce the move on Tuesday but they made an addition to the offensive line. According to NFL transaction report, they signed former Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Elijah Wilkinson.

Wilkinson has been in the league since 2017, spending four seasons with the Denver Broncos, one with the Chicago Bears and one with the Falcons.

He has started at guard and at tackle in his career, starting 26 of his 44 career games played.

He is 6-foot-6 and 322 pounds. He played in and started nine games for the Falcons last season.

Based on other recent moved, his deal is likely for one year and will be around the league minimum.

He gives the Cardinals another experienced veteran in the room to compete for a spot on the roster and potentially in the starting lineup.

Arthur Smith addresses Damar Hamlin situation, gives injury updates

Falcons head coach Arthur Smith discussed Bills safety Damar Hamlin, and provided injury updates ahead of Wednesday’s practice

Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith addressed the media prior to the start of Wednesday’s practice, giving some insight into how the team has handled the Damar Hamlin situation and providing some injury updates for Week 18.

Hamlin, who went into cardiac arrest following a tackle in Monday night’s game between the Bills and Bengals, is still considered to be in critical condition.

Smith said Hamlin and his family will remain in the team’s thoughts and prayers. Watch his comments below, as shared by ESPN’s Michael Rothstein.

Smith went on to give some injury updates, saying that left guard Elijah Wilkinson (calf) and tight end Feleipe Franks (concussion) will remain out on Wednesday. Both players missed Sunday’s win over the Cardinals

Wilkinson has been solid this season, but his absence opens the door for Matt Hennessy to get more work at guard, per team reporter Tori McElhaney.

Hennessy filled in for Wilkinson during Week 17 and earned a Pro Football Focus grade of 71 overall — with a run-blocking grade of 75.4. Atlanta takes on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 18.

The Buccaneers have already clinched the NFC South, but they still intend to play their starters. It should be a good final test for Falcons rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder, who will be making his fourth NFL start.

Falcons list inactives for Sunday’s game against the Saints

The Atlanta Falcons have released their inactives list for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints.

The Atlanta Falcons have released their inactives list for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Five players have been ruled out for this Week 15 matchup, including wide receiver Frank Darby and cornerback Rashad Fenton.

Rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder is set to make his first NFL start and the timing couldn’t be better as left guard Elijah Wilkinson just returned from injured reserve.

Check out Atlanta’s Week 15 inactives list below.

Falcons activate LG Elijah Wilkinson from injured reserve

The #Falcons have activated left guard Elijah Wilkinson from IR just in time for Sunday’s game against the Saints

The Atlanta Falcons have their starting left guard back just in time for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. Elijah Wilkinson was activated from the injured reserve list on Saturday, giving the team fully healthy offensive line for the first time in weeks.

Wilkinson last played during the team’s Week 8 win over the Carolina Panthers. There will be a different quarterback lining up behind Wilkinson, however, with Falcons rookie Desmond Ridder set to make his first NFL start in Week 15.

Ridder was named the starter by head coach Arthur Smith on Monday. The rookie will replace a struggling Marcus Mariota, who was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury after being benched.

Wilkinson is essentially taking Mariota’s spot on Atlanta’s 53-man roster. The Falcons are 4.5-point underdogs entering Sunday’s game in New Orleans.

Falcons designate LG Elijah Wilkinson to return from IR

#Falcons designate LG Elijah Wilkinson to return from IR, opening his 21-day practice window

On Wednesday, the Atlanta Falcons ruled out tight end Kyle Pitts for the remainder of the season. But on the bright side, the team appears to be on the verge of getting another starter back on offense.

The Falcons have designated left guard Elijah Wilkinson to return from the injured reserve list. Wilkinson now has 21 days to officially be activated, and could potentially play Sunday if the coaching staff thinks he’s ready.

According to Falcons head coach Arthur Smith, the 27-year old offensive lineman is getting closer but there’s no guarantee that he will be activated before Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Smith also provided an update (of sorts) regarding another injured offensive lineman.

Jalen Mayfield, last year’s starting left guard, has been out since training camp. The Falcons have yet to activate Mayfield, but believe he’s making progress.

If both players are healthy, you have to assume the team will stick with Wilkinson at left guard. The former Bears lineman outplayed Mayfield during training camp and has thus far been a slight upgrade over the former third-round pick in the regular season.
