Taking a look back at the Jets’ 2021 NFL draft class

The Jets released RB Michael Carter on Tuesday and we recap how the team’s 2021 NFL draft class has fared thus far.

The New York Jets are amid a two-game skid right now, being outscored by the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders 43-18 in the last two weeks. The Jets held a players-only meeting on Tuesday, and running back Michael Carter was released shortly after.

We are now in the third year of Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas being the head coach-general manager duo for the Jets. The 2021 NFL draft was the first one Saleh and Douglas took part in together, beginning a regime that had fans in New York optimistic about the future.

With the offense struggling with Zach Wilson under center, and Carter being released, now is as good a time as ever to recap how New York’s 2021 NFL draft class has fared thus far.

Browns WR Elijah Moore appears to want RB Michael Carter in Cleveland

Could there be a possible teammate reunion in Cleveland?

The New York Jets released running back Michael Carter on Tuesday, and he is now subject to waivers. Former Jet and current Browns wide receiver Elijah Moore took to Twitter to try and possibly suggest that Cleveland should consider pursuing Carter’s services.

Of course, because he is on waivers, even if Cleveland puts in a claim, he might go to someone higher on the waiver order. Carter had a solid rookie season but failed to really carve out a role since then. I’m not sure it makes sense in Cleveland the way the room is currently constructed, but it is absolutely worth consideration.

Carter is a quality pass catcher out of the backfield and could bring that interesting skill set to Cleveland. The biggest issue is finding where the snaps would come from if they added Carter. Jerome Ford played his best game as a pro last week and Kareem Hunt has a clear role so in the end though an interesting player it likely doesn’t make sense for the Browns.

Fantasy Football: Waiver-wire targets for Week 11

We take a look across the league and help fantasy managers pick players to add to their roster off the waiver wire for Week 11.

It was an exciting and interesting Week 10, where we saw some new names enter into our collective fantasy football minds. Injuries and breakout stars are going to send fantasy managers scrambling to waivers this week, and we can full you in on who to target before waivers clear.

Browns WR Elijah Moore on playing with multiple QBs: ‘You gotta be able to adapt’

Cleveland Browns receiver Elijah Moore has already caught passes from three different quarterbacks in 2023. But he’s used to it from his time with the New York Jets.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Elijah MooreĀ has already played with three different quarterbacks this season. But that doesn’t appear to phase him.

Moore told “Good Morning Football” on Friday that he and the Browns have been able to perform well and win games despite multiple changes at quarterback because of their ability to adapt and focus on their roles as players.

ā€œI feel like you gotta just focus on yourself,” Moore said. “Thatā€™s what everybody kind of sleeps on. They get caught up into the media, get caught up into all the factors that don’t really play in what you really need to focus on anyway.

“As a receiver, my job is to get open. If I keep focusing on that, Iā€™ll just make my job easier for any quarterback in the game.”

Moore ā€“ who was traded to the Browns from the New York Jets before the 2023 season opened the year with Deshaun Watson under center. But when Watson went down with a shoulder injury, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson took over. Next up was practice squad call-up P.J. Walker. Despite the fluidity at quarterback, Moore ranks third on the team with 33 combined touches ā€“ 25 receptions and eight rushes ā€“ and is second on the team with 43 targets behind fellow wideout Amari Cooper’s 47. Moore’s 237 total yards also rank third on the team.

Moore attributes his success despite continuity under center to his days with the Jets. Moore caught passes from four different quarterbacks in each of his first two seasons in New York ā€“ Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco, Mike White, and Josh Johnson in 2021, and then Wilson, Flacco, White, and Chris Streveler in 2022.

“You gotta be able to adapt,” Moore added.” I gotta be someone that adapts. I think thatā€™s the secret.”

3 Bold predictions as the Browns look for second win in a row vs Colts

Can the Browns make it two in a row with a win in Indianapolis?

The Browns got a massive confidence boost knocking off the previously undefeated San Francisco 49ers last week. They will hit the road looking to start a winning streak this week and likely could have their starting quarterback back on the field. The Indianapolis Colts cannot be taken lightly, they are a team that plays hard week in and week out.

It will be interesting to watch the Browns offense if Deshaun Watson returns you could see them be conservative as they attempt to ease him back into the speed of things. But they should be able to run the ball against the Colts, especially with Grover Stewart who is their best run defender out due to suspension.

Regardless of who plays quarterback on Sunday, this is a winnable game if the Browns show up and play up to their ability. Here are my three bold predictions for the Browns vs Colts game as Cleveland looks to make it two in a row.

Fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em: Week 7

Taking a look at some starts and sits for fantasy football in Week 7.

We now find ourselves a third of the way through the 2023 season with a Week 7 slate that features several vital fantasy football assets on a bye week.

After last week’s slate had just two teams with time off, fantasy football managers will have to do a lot of maneuvering to get around the six teams not playing. Teams on a bye in Week 7 include the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans.

Doing start/sit articles can be a little challenging. The players featured on the list below should not be taken as “must starts” or “must sits.” Instead, these are more suggestions on what we believe managers should do with fringe players heading into the weekend. The choice is ultimately up to the manager.

Just because a player is listed as a “start” doesn’t mean he should be put in the lineup over the secure, bona fide studs. Vice versa for the “sits.” If there’s no better option on the waiver wire or the bench, a manager shouldn’t automatically sit the player. That’s why these can be tricky waters to navigate.

Data Dump: Where do the Browns stand in the NFL after Week 6?

Diving deep into NFL analytics after the Browns week 6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The immediate days after the NFL week has concluded involve an influx of infographics that signal if our favorite teams are back, or if it’s over for them. In this week’s data dump, we can announce that the team is indeed back. If the thrilling victory over one of the premier teams of the NFC did not convince the world that the Cleveland Browns were back, here is the data to prove it.

A word to the wise, NFL analytics are incredibly challenging due to the complexity of the sport. It’s extremely hard to accurately assign both credit and blame to the players involved in any given play. Analytics are best used in the sport to judge the whole team instead of individual players.

The analytics indicate that the Browns’ defense is peerless. They are playing better than any team has since 1999. In a reversal of last season, it is the Browns’ offense that is currently holding the team back. The Browns need Deshaun Watson to heal up and take command of a lifeless offense. The Browns’ offense only needs to be average for the Browns to be a serious Super Bowl contender.

Browns: WR Elijah Moore is doing his job despite odd usage

Moore continues to be a natural separator on the field

The statistical numbers haven’t quite been there for the former second-round pick Elijah Moore in his first season with the Cleveland Browns. Through four games the team has only had one good game worth of quarterback play in which Moore caught all nine of his targets for 49 yards.

Looking at these raw numbers has led many to say that he isn’t perfect and is just another guy. The advanced metrics and film show that just isn’t true as according to Next Gen Stats there isn’t a wide receiver in the league creating more separation through the first three games than Moore.

The team has also overused him on jet sweeps and as a running back despite it not working which has left a sour taste in the mouth of some fans. Moore is fast and agile and if the team uses him to his strength as a traditional outside receiver the statistical numbers will follow.

5 things we learned about the Browns through the first four games

As we sit through the bye week at the quarter-mark of the season, what have we learned about this football team?

We have reached the quarter-mark of the 2023 season as the Cleveland Browns sit with a 2-2 record. They have looked elite at times, and other times they have looked helpless as they are a hard team to pin down thus far through the season as they work through their bye week. Their defense says they are Super Bowl contenders while their offense and quarterback Deshaun Watson are struggling through a bit of Jekyll and Hyde inconsistencies.

The bye week might have come at the perfect time for this football team before they take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. The bye week gives us a second to break down and level set what we have seen to this point from the Browns as well; the good, the bad, and the ugly.

What have we learned about these Browns through the first quarter of the season as they take the week to recover before preparing for the 49ers?

Browns Studs and Duds: Who stood out for various reasons in loss to the Ravens?

Who were the studs and duds in the Cleveland Browns loss to the Baltimore Ravens?

The Cleveland Browns suffered another humiliating loss against their division rivals, this time falling to the Baltimore Ravens. The Browns couldn’t get anything going on offense, ending the game with more turnovers than points. The Browns’ offense looked lifeless under the helm of rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a late replacement for the injured Deshaun Watson. At least Myles Garrett played well once again.

It showed as the offense struggled to find consistency with the rookie quarterback. The line had difficulty adjusting to Thompson-Robinsonā€™s drop depth, and the receivers were unaccustomed to the timing of his throws. The run game looked okay, but the Browns dug themselves into a hole and couldn’t rely on the run to score points.

The Browns’ defense did an admirable job despite bad field positions and little rest throughout the day. Thatā€™s not to say they were without fault; the defense struggled on third down. The defensive line couldn’t get close to Lamar Jackson, allowing him ample time to find open receivers downfield. The Browns gave up multiple second and third downs because they couldn’t get to Jackson. While Jackson is a top-5 quarterback in the NFL, thatā€™s no excuse for what happened.

The Browns simply could not execute when it mattered most. Thankfully, the team will have a week off to regroup. Here are the Studs and Duds from this weekā€™s loss.
