The Elder Scrolls Online Arcanist class debuts in Necrom expansion

Necrom, the next Elder Scrolls Online expansion, adds the Arcanist class to the MMO, along with two new realms and several adventures

Necrom, the next Elder Scrolls Online expansion, adds the Arcanist class to the MMO game, along with two new realms and several adventures. Necrom releases on June 20, 2023, for PC and console and lets you travel to the Telvanni Peninsula for the first time since 1994’s The Elder Scrolls Arena. You’ll also visit Apocrypha, a realm of Oblivion that exists deep inside the mind of the Daedric Prince of Knowledge.

If you fancy a fresh class before heading off to horizons new, consider swapping to the Arcanist class. These wielders of forbidden magic draw on the Oblivion for their power and can specialize in three skill lines: Apocryphal Soldier, Curative Runeforms, and Herald of the Tome. These correspond to healing, damage dealing, and tank roles, so the Arcanist can basically do a bit of everything.

Arcanists also have a new self-buff feature. Their skills generate Crux, which they can then use to power up other abilities and make the most of every spell.

Where new ESO expansions, like High Isle, typically introduce fresh, standalone adventures, Necrom is a bit different. Its stories build on narratives that began in past ESO DLC and help push the Shadow Over Morrowind story further along.

The Necrom update will cost $39.99.

An Xbox and Bethesda showcase is coming soon – without Starfield

A new Xbox Bethesda showcase is set for late January, but Starfield isn’t among the upcoming Xbox games planned for the presentation

A new Xbox and Bethesda showcase called the Developer_Direct is scheduled to air on Jan. 25, 2023, at 3 p.m. ET, Xbox announced in an Xbox Wire post. If you’re hoping for some Starfield news after nearly a year since Bethesda released the last set of information, though, you’re in for a bit of a disappointment.

Xbox said there will be no Starfield news during the Developer_Direct. Instead, the team plans on hosting a standalone showcase all about Starfield – eventually. There’s no indication when the Starfield showcase might be just yet.

The Developers_Direct focuses on upcoming Xbox games such as Redfall, the vampire-hunting FPS game from Arkane, along with Minecraft Legends, Forza Motorsport, and The Elder Scrolls Online’s substantial new update planned for later in 2023.

Expect to see new Redfall footage – the first Arkane has shown in months – with more details on boss encounters, customization, and combat. There’s also new gameplay from Forza Motorsport and a deep dive into the PvP elements of Minecraft Legends’, the real-time strategy Minecraft spinoff set to launch on all platforms in the first half of 2023.

None of the games planned for the Developer_Direct has a firm release date yet. However, between rumors of Redfall launching in spring and the complete absence of any Xbox games such as Avowed that are still early in development, it seems Xbox is taking a leaf from Nintendo’s Direct showcases and only focusing on the next few months of releases.

The Elder Scrolls Online is free-to-play for almost two weeks

Visit Tamriel at no additional cost for a limited time.

Itching for another high fantasy adventure but can’t wait for Elder Scrolls 6? Bethesda might have a special offer that could do the trick.

The Elder Scrolls Online is currently free-to-play until April 26, 2022, at 7:00 A.M. // 10:00 A.M. EDT // 2:00 P.M. GMT. It doesn’t matter which platform you’re on either, as the free trial is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, PC, and MAC.

During the Elder Scrolls Online free trial period, you’ll have access to the base game and the Morrowind DLC. The cool part is this also lets you play the High Isle prologue questline and begin this year’s Legacy of the Bretons adventure. Remember that playing beyond the free-to-play event means you’ll need to purchase The Elder Scrolls Online. Good thing several editions are on sale!

From now until April 27, 2022, The Elder Scrolls Online Standard Edition is on sale for 70 percent off, and The Elder Scrolls Online: Blackwood is on sale at 67 percent off. However, these deals may vary slightly depending on what storefront you scoop them up off of — so keep an eye out.

While The Elder Scrolls Online may not have as much hype as World of Warcraft, Lost Ark, or Final Fantasy 14, it’s undoubtedly one of the best MMORPGs out there. So give it a try! GLHF had a lovely chat with the developers behind the game earlier this year
