Last season Perry spent his time on the practice squad for Jacksonville.

The Seahawks worked out former Jaguars and Texans quarterback EJ Perry yesterday, according to a report by Jordan Schultz at the Score. Perry (6-foot-2, 211 pounds) began his college football career at Boston College before he transferred to Brown, where he won All-Ivy league honors twice.

Last season Perry spent his time on the practice squad for Jacksonville. He was waived back in March and claimed by Houston, but they let him go two weeks ago.

The scouting report on Perry mentions his quick release and ability to run, but also notes average-at-best arm strength. His best selling point is his athleticism. At the 2022 scouting combine, he posted a 4.65 second 40-yard dash, a 34.5″ vertical and a 4.18 second 20-yard shuttle.

If he does wind up signing with the Sehaawks, Perry will most likely be competing with undrafted rookie Holton Ahlers for the third QB spot on the roster behind Geno Smith and Drew Lock.

That QB3 spot means a little more this year than in the past. The NFL just passes a new rule that allows teams to carry three quarterbacks on their game day roster without them counting for a roster spot.

WATCH: QB E.J. Perry hits WR Tim Jones for huge gain late in first quarter

This highlight-reel play was one of the most exciting moments of the #Jaguars first quarter against the #Falcons

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ hot start continued on their second drive after the first play from scrimmage saw them intercept Atlanta Falcons rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder. Third-string Jaguars signal-caller E.J. Perry hit fan-favorite receiver Tim Jones for a 49-yard gain to get the ball moving downfield at Mercedes Benz Stadium.

Watch this highlight-reel pass from Perry to Jones that occurred late in the first quarter:

Perry and Jones are in contention for a spot on the Jaguars’ final 53-man roster, and this play will certainly give coaches something to think about while they’re deciding who they’ll keep heading into the regular season. They are both rookies, seeing their first action in Jacksonville in this preseason.

Perry played his college ball in the Ivy League at Brown and was a standout for the Bears last season. One of the most intriguing passers in this year’s draft, he managed to go undrafted but has found some success with the Jaguars in limited snaps in the preseason.

On the other hand, Jones played at Southern Mississippi, and also signed with Jacksonville after going undrafted back in April. Jones has been one of the best receivers on Jacksonville’s offense in these exhibition games but is far from a guaranteed lock to make the final roster next week.

With just three quarters remaining for these promising young talents to make their case to be part of the Jaguars’ 2022 rebuild, expect more outstanding efforts from them as they fight to prove they could be assets to Jacksonville’s offense this season.

4 Jaguars with the most to prove in Preseason Week 2

These #Jaguars should have a major chip on their shoulder when #Jacksonville plays the #Pittsburgh #Steelers on Saturday

Just two games stand between the Jacksonville Jaguars and their shot to make some sparks fly in the 2022 regular season. With so much young talent on the roster and a new coaching staff ready to prove their doubters wrong, the preseason is a perfect chance for the team to hone their craft and form a cohesive unit before the games count.

As it stands, the 85 players under contract in Jacksonville all have a chip on their collective shoulders as they look to improve on their wasted 2021 campaign. Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers could prove to be an opportunity to really show some life against a legitimately challenging opponent.

Here are four players that could use a huge performance to justify a spot on the final 53-man roster in September:

Former Vikings QB Kyle Sloter released by Jaguars

Kyle Sloter’s time in Jacksonville is done.

After earning first-team All-USFL honors as a member of the New Orleans Breakers, former Vikings quarterback Kyle Sloter found a new home with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This past Thursday, Sloter played with his new team in the Hall of Fame Game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Playing the entire second half, Sloter had some success, completing 13-of-25 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown in a 27-11 loss.

Unfortunately, that didn’t last long as the Jaguars moved on from the signal-caller on Tuesday afternoon in favor of the rookie quarterback from Brown, E.J. Perry.

With Sloter having been released from his seventh team in as many years, he is back on the market looking for his next opportunity.

Jags bring back QB EJ Perry, release Kyle Sloter

Now that he’s fully healthy again, EJ Perry is back with the Jags.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be running it back with quarterback EJ Perry. The team announced that they re-signed the undrafted rookie quarterback on Tuesday afternoon after they cut him before training camp due to a hamstring injury.

Perry’s agent, Sean Stellato, initially reported that the move had been made, then the team broke the news afterward. The team also announced that they released Kyle Sloter to make room for Perry.

With Perry now healthy, the Jags decided to re-sign him after he spent organized team activities with them and gradually improved in the process.

As for Sloter, he played for the whole second half of the Hall of Fame Game, and while he did register the Jags’ only passing touchdown of the night, it wasn’t enough to keep the Jags from wanting to reunite with Perry. Sloter ultimately finished the night 13-of-25 for 127 passing yards.

Perry started his college career at Boston College, but eventually ended up at Brown University. In 2019 he became the Ivy League Player of the Year, which earned him the Bushnell Cup Award. As a senior, he was 295-of-444 (64.4%) and threw for 3,033 yards while adding 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. That earned him an invite to the East-West Shrine Game where NFL scouts got a better look at him before he entered the draft.

Jaguars 2022 training camp preview: Quarterbacks

The Jags will enter camp with four quarterbacks, and of course, the most-watched one will be Trevor Lawrence.

With training camp two weeks away for the Jacksonville Jaguars, it’s time to start previewing every position on the roster. Of course, the place to start that process is the quarterback position because it’s the position that is the most important on the field.

Last season, the Jags were able to select Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1 overall pick, giving the fanbase the type of elite prospect they’ve long needed to revitalize the franchise. Unfortunately, they didn’t pair him with the right coach out of the gate and ended up having to make a coaching change in December.

This time around, it appears they have a much better fit for the team in terms of the coaching change that was made as it should especially help Lawrence and the quarterbacks room as a whole. Here is a preview of the position as the Jags will enter camp with Lawrence and three other quarterbacks:

Details emerge for EJ Perry’s contract with Jags

The undrafted rookie QB, who initially was going to join the Eagles, will earn a notable amount in guaranteed money after signing with the Jags.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been known to find a gem or two in undrafted free agency, and fans are hoping that can continue this year. One player who the team has high hopes for is former Brown University quarterback EJ Perry, who signed with the team last week after initially agreeing to join Philadelphia.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jags gave the undrafted rookie a significant amount of guaranteed money, including a $23K signing bonus. Additionally, the contract is set to pay him $207K in total guarantees, bringing his fully guaranteed amount to $230K.

Perry was a player who many mocks had as a sixth to seventh-round option in the draft after he impressed at the East-West Shrine Game. With teams always looking to add serviceable backups and developmental players at the quarterback position, it seems Perry had some leverage to shoot for a high-end undrafted contract.

Perry started his collegiate career at Boston College in 2017. However, in 2019, he went to Brown University where he was able to secure a role as a starter. Perry was successful with the Bears and won the Bushnell Cup, which is given to the best Ivy League player in the country annually.

During his last season at Brown University, he was 295-of-444 (64.4%) in terms of his completion rate and threw for 3,033 yards while adding 24 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. Now, Perry will look to take advantage of learning from a quarterback whisperer in Doug Pederson while trying to stick on the Jags’ roster as a backup quarterback of some form.

Jags snag undrafted free agent QB EJ Perry after he initially agreed to terms wit Eagles

The Jags are adding one more undrafted player to their list of 15 from Monday. That player is Brown QB EJ Perry, who was initially going to join the Eagles.

The Jacksonville Jaguars announced their undrafted free agent class yesterday, and it consisted of 15 players. However, that number will be growing by one as they have snagged Brown quarterback EJ Perry, who initially was going to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Jags’ quarterback room will now have four players as a result, and that’s something coach Doug Pederson simply wouldn’t mind. He’s been on record for stating the importance of developing a good quarterback room, and Perry gives the group one more developmental option alongside Jake Luton.

Perry started his collegiate career at Boston College after enrolling there in 2017. In 2018, he participated in five games for them and was able to complete 27-of-39 passes (69.2%) in the process for 2,077 yards and two touchdowns.

In 2019 he transferred to Brown, where he was able to eventually become the Ivy League Player of the Year, which won him a trophy for the accomplishment known as the Bushnell Cup. During his last season with Brown, he was 295-of-444 (64.4%) and threw for 3,033 yards while adding 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.

Perry participated in the East-West Shrine Game this offseason, where he was able to get some exposure after completing 13-of-18 passes for 241 yards and three touchdowns. He also showcased his athleticism by rushing for two two-point conversions. That helped his draft stock, and some had him going in the sixth and seventh rounds of mock drafts, as a result.

The Eagles are all about quarterback development and after signing Nevada’s Carson Strong to an undrafted free agent deal, Philadelphia reportedly agreed to sign Brown quarterback EJ Perry as well.

According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafalo, that agreement took place before Philadelphia signed Nevada Carson Strong to a huge deal.

With Strong now entrenched with the Eagles, Brown is now signing with Doug Pederson and the Jaguars.

The Ivy League Player of the Year, Perry passed for over 3,400 yards and 30 touchdowns in 10 games in his final season, earning him the Bushnell Cup for Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year.

This season, Brown had 3,033 passing yards and 23 touchdowns while also putting up another 402 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
