2024 3-star Quarterback EJ Caminong de-commits from Washington after his visit to Texas A&M

2024 3-star quarterback EJ Caminong has officially de-committed from Washington just days after visiting Texas A&M.

Last weekend, Texas A&M hosted several prospects from the 2024. 2025, 2026. and even the 2027 recruiting classes who took part in Jimbo Fisher’s summer football camps while one future collegiate signal caller made his official visit to College Station, which apparently left a significant impact.

On Monday night, through a post on social media (Twitter), 2024 three-star quarterback EJ Caminong announced that he had de-committed from the University of Washington, just days after his Texas A&M OV, and ever since the end of his 2022 junior season, Caminong and Jimbo Fisher have been connected after offering the ascending prospect back in late March.

According to 247Sports, he is currently positioned as the 21st-ranked quarterback in the 2024 cycle and the 9th-ranked prospect in Washington. Standing at 6-2 and 195 pounds, arm strength and pure toughness has never been his issue, and with one more season of high school football to sharpen his fundamentals, Caminong would be an absolute steal for any of the 7 FBS programs that have fielded an offer.

With only one quarterback signed in the 2024 cycle (four-star Anthony Maddox), Fisher and his staff are all in on making EJ Caminong one of their priority prospects this summer.

Here are the 2024 football prospects visiting Texas A&M the weekend of June 9

The summer of official visits continues to roll along as Texas A&M will welcome a handful of high-profile prospects from the 2024 cycle this weekend.

With the summer season having officially kicked off it can only mean one thing: the top prospects of the 2024 cycle will descend upon various campuses for official visits. As we officially turn the page to the second weekend of June, the 2024 recruiting cycle will only continue to heat up from here.

Texas A&M and head coach Jimbo Fisher’s busy month of June continues to move along as the Maroon and White welcome close to double-digit visits from a handful of top football prospects. The coming weekend of June 9 will see some of the best recruits on both sides of the ball get a preview of Aggieland, with the hope that they see College Station as their next home for the future.

While a handful of this weekend’s visitors are still taking their time through the decision process, there are at least two current commits making their way to Aggieland.

Here’s the list of the top 2024 football prospects visiting Texas A&M this weekend, June 9:

2024 3-Star Quarterback EJ Caminong will visit Texas A&M on June 9

Texas A&M is set to host rising 2024 3-star quarterback EJ Caminong on the weekend of June 9, joining several other 2024 prospects.

The quarterback position for Texas A&M is sadly never set in stone for more than two seasons due to the increasing popularity of the transfer portal, and outside of incoming 2023 four-star Marcel Reed and 2024 four-star Anthony Maddox, there is still a lot of unknown, especially from a depth perspective.

Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher’s goal every recruiting cycle is to sign at least two quarterbacks, failing to do so during most of his time with the program. Still, after offering 2024 three-star quarterback EJ Caminong back in late March, the Seattle, Washington native and one-time Washington commit equally intrigued with the Maroon and White, announcing that he will take an official visit to College Station on the weekend of June 9.

As I stated in March, Caminong’s quick decision to commit to his hometown program is admirable, but when the Aggies came calling, he knew it was time to reevaluate his options.

According to 247Sports, he is currently positioned as the 21st-ranked quarterback in the 2024 cycle and the 7th-ranked prospect in Washington. Standing at 6-2 and 195 pounds, arm strength and pure toughness has never been his issue. However, after an impressive 2022 junior campaign, Caminong has continued to mature in the pocket while honing in on his decision-making during critical moments during a game.

As sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman looks to take the next step in his development, his play on the field will likely influence QB prospects like EJ Caminong to continue considering the Aggies as their collegiate destination.

What are the Aggies’ next options after losing out on 4-star QB Air Noland?

The Aggies were among a handful of finalists that missed out on 4-star quarterback Air Noland, but all’s not lost with a handful of next options left for Texas A&M.

The sport that is college football recruiting is not for the faint of heart, and when one of the top quarterback prospects of the Class of 2024 announced his decision on Sunday, Texas A&M unfortunately was one of a handful of final schools left hanging.

In a live reveal on 247Sports YouTube channel Sunday evening, 4-star quarterback Air Noland, and the No. 7 ranked signal-caller in the 2024 class, officially committed to the Ohio State University. Noland chose the Buckeyes over Alabama, Arkansas, Clemson, Miami, Oregon, and last but not least Texas A&M, among his final list of schools.

In an exclusive with 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, Noland noted that he’s joining Ohio State with the goal of competing for a conference championship, a National Championship, and hopefully a Heisman as well.

While losing out on an elite quarterback prospect like Noland stings, it’s key to remind the Aggies faithful that the sky is not falling! The 4-star signal-caller out of Fairburn, GA would have been an exciting addition to the QB room, but there is still plenty of talent committed to the Maroon and White, with potentially more on the way.

The Aggies have already received a commitment from 3-star QB Anthony Maddox, a 6’1″, 165 lbs signal-caller out of Hattiesburg, MS. Maddox Led Oak Grove to a 10-3 record while throwing for 2,198 yards and 20 touchdowns to go along with 347 rushing yards and a score on the ground.

A&M also recently offered 3-Star Quarterback EJ Caminong, who is currently committed to Washington. It’s key to note that Caminong, who boasts a strong arm and who made a huge leap in his pocket awareness and decision-making, committed to the Huskies very early on in the recruiting process.

Never say never when it comes to the ability of the Aggies to flip him toward College Station.

Finally, it’s by all means a longshot, but there remains a slight opportunity to be even more aggressive for 5-star QB Dylan Raiola out of Phoenix, AZ. The already Aggies offered the signal-caller out of Pinnacle High School, albeit he was recruited by former offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey.

Raiola is much warmer on his offers from the likes of Georgia, Oregon, Nebraska, and USC, but as we’ve seen time and time again in this current football landscape, recruits can re-think their initial decisions at a moment’s notice. The best college football programs don’t get swayed by early commitment decisions, so time will tell if the Aggies are set on pivoting toward some of these early-commit signal-callers.

Texas A&M offers 2024 3-Star Quarterback EJ Caminong

Texas A&M has officially offered 2024 3-star quarterback EJ Caminong

No matter the region or state, Texas A&M Head coach Jimbo Fisher is going to recruit whoever he feels fits the Aggies’ program from a talent, culture, and academic standpoint, as Friday’s focus was on 2024 3-star quarterback EJ Caminong, who is a current commit with the Washington Huskies. received his 5th and first SEC offer from none other than Texas A&M.

Caminong, a native of Seattle, Washington, received an offer from the Huskies on May 20th of last year, and without hesitation committed to the program on Oct. 26th. I don’t blame the young man for making a quick decision and following his heart, but as talented and currently overlooked as Caminong is, getting an offer from the Aggies at this point in his recruiting journey is highly meaningful, to say the least.

EJ Caminong is currently listed at 6-2, and 195 lbs, and is ranked as the 19th quarterback, and 9th-ranked player in Washington in the 2024 class. After a productive 2022 junior season at Garfield High School, 247Sports National Recruiting Editor Brandon Huffman described Caminong’s on-field ability:

“Caminong made a big jump in the offseason and it has carried over to the young season. He always had the physical tools and the arm strength but where he’s improved greatly is in his pocket presence and his decision making, instead of forcing throws like he did as a sophomore, he’s going through reads, keeping his eyes downfield and dropping passes right into the tightest of windows.”
Caminong is no doubt a very intriguing prospect to keep an eye on in the coming months, and if the feeling is mutual, a visit to College Station is definitely a possibility in the near future.
