Edmonton Oilers at Vegas Golden Knights odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Edmonton Oilers at Vegas Golden Knights sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Edmonton Oilers (33-22-8) visit the Vegas Golden Knights (34-22-8) Wednesday at T-Mobile Arena for a 10:30 p.m. ET puck drop. The Knights lead the Pacific Division, but the Oilers are just two points back in third place and with a game in hand. We analyze the Oilers-Golden Knights sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Oilers at Golden Knights: Projected starting goalies

Mikko Koskinen vs. Marc-Andre Fleury

Koskinen is 1-3-0 over his last four outings to drop to 16-12-2 through 29 starts and four relief appearances. He has a .911 save percentage and 2.89 goals against average.

Fleury has strung together four straight victories to improve to 25-14-5 through 44 starts and a relief appearance. He has a .906 SV% and 2.79 GAA. He has been worse at home than on the road, as he slips to a .900 SV% and 2.96 GAA at T-Mobile Arena.

Prediction

Oilers 5, Golden Knights 3

Moneyline (ML)

The OILERS (+170) are the play at a number that’s far too high. The Golden Knights (-209) are 19-10-4 on the road and on a six-game winning streak, but they’re getting too much respect. The Knights have gone to overtime twice in their last six games and four of the six wins were decided by just one goal.

The Oilers lost 4-3 in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks Tuesday, but they’re still 18-12-3 on the road for the season. Edmonton won the season’s first meeting of the two division rivals by a 4-2 score Nov. 23.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Oilers to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $17. The same bet on the Golden Knights to win returns a profit of just $4.78.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The OILERS (+1.5, -154) can still turn a modest profit with 1 goal of insurance in the event of a loss. Edmonton is 34-29 ATS overall and 23-10 on the road. Vegas is just 25-39 ATS overall and 11-22 on home ice.

The Golden Knights rank first in the NHL in Corsi For Percentage (rate of total shot attempts) at 5-on-5 since Feb. 1 at 57.91%, but the Oilers are at an adequate 50.52%.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 6.5 (+125) as the more profitable side of the total bet. Koskinen has been struggling of late for the Oilers and Fleury has been sub-par on home ice for the Golden Knights. The Knights have topped Wednesday’s projected total in each of their last three games.

Boston Bruins at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Boston Bruins at Edmonton Oilers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Edmonton Oilers (32-21-6) host the Boston Bruins (37-11-12) Wednesday at Rogers Place for an 8:30 p.m. ET puck drop. We analyze the Bruins-Oilers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Bruins at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Tuukka Rask vs. Mike Smith

Rask has gone 4-1-0 across his last five outings with a total of just six goals allowed. He is 22-5-6 on the season with a .931 save percentage and 2.08 goals against average.

Smith is also 4-1-0 across his last five games but with a total of 13 goals allowed. He is 16-10-4 with a .904 SV% and 2.93 GAA through 30 starts and two relief appearances.

Prediction

Oilers 3, Bruins 2

Moneyline (ML)

The Bruins (-189) enter Wednesday on a three-game winning streak, having last beaten the New York Rangers 3-1 Sunday. The OILERS (+155) have won two straight on the road and return to home ice having taken over the top spot in the Pacific Division, even without C Connor McDavid (quad). Edmonton is 15-9-4 at Rogers Place, while Boston is 16-9-3 on the road.

The Bruins are the better overall team with a plus-53 goal differential to the Oilers’ plus-7, but the value on the home side is too great to pass up. The Oilers earned a 4-1 victory in Boston Jan. 4 with Smith stopping 35 of 36 shots. Back the home side.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Oilers to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $15.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Grab some extra insurance on the hosts and back the OILERS (+1.5, -154) to either lose by one goal or win outright. The Bruins are 29-31 against the spread overall and 14-14 on the road, while the Oilers are 32-27 ATS overall but just 10-18 at home.

The poor ATS record for the Oilers at home is a result of them generally being favored. Liking them to win outright as home underdogs, their straight-up home record is more meaningful in this case. They’ve lost by 2 or more goals in just one of their last eight home games.

Over/Under (O/U)

Back the UNDER 5.5 (+110). Both goalies have been in great form entering Wednesday and both teams have had two full days of rest. The Bruins have hit the Over just twice in their last eight games. The Oilers are 5-4-1 against the O/U across the same span.

Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Wednesday’s Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Calgary Flames (26-19-6) and Edmonton Oilers (26-18-5) will renew acquaintances Wednesday at Rogers Place at 10 p.m. ET. We analyze the Flames-Oilers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Flames at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

David Rittich vs. Mike Smith

The all-star Rittich gets the nod after Cam Talbot made the start, and took the shootout loss, in Tuesday’s home game against the St. Louis Blues. Rittich has posted a 19-12-5 record, 2.77 goals against average and .913 save percentage across his 36 starts. He has faced the Oilers just once this season, allowing one goal on 29 shots in a 5-1 win in Edmonton Dec. 27.

Smith checks into this one with a 12-9-3 record, 2.96 goals against average and .901 save percentage through 24 starts and two relief appearances. The Kingston, Ontario native replaced a shaky Mikko Koskinen in that 5-1 loss to Rittich and the Flames Dec. 27, stopping six of the seven shots he faced in relief.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access them at USA TODAY Sports for a full set of today’s betting odds. Odds last updated at 10 a.m. ET.

Prediction

Oilers 4, Flames 2

Moneyline (ML)

The OILERS (-125) have won five of their previous seven home battles against the Flames (+105), although Calgary is 6-2 in the past eight meetings. The favorite is also 8-1 in the previous nine in this series, too. The fact the Flames just played Tuesday also works against them, especially since they went to a shootout and then had the quick turnaround for travel, albeit a short jump up to Edmonton.

A $10 bet on the Oilers to win returns a profit of $8, while a $10 wager on the Flames results in a profit of $10.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Oilers (-1.5, +220) are the lean here, although I’d go super, super light if I were you. The Flames (+1.5, -278) are just too risky to play, especially considering their poor record in recent games in Edmonton, and the fact they might have tired legs after going to a shootout Tuesday. AVOID.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 5.5 (-133) is the play, although I don’t like the added juice tacked on, and don’t love the number that much anyway. If you play the alternate line of Over 6.5 (+135), I’m not terribly keen on this one being a high-scoring affair. I barely like the 5.5. The Under is also 33-16-4 in the past 53 meetings between these provincial rivals in Edmonton. The best play might be not to play at all.

Zack Kassian’s epic beatdown against Matthew Tkachuk actually cost his team the game

This was wild.

Zack Kassian lost his cool — and, in turn, the game for the Edmonton Oilers.  After Calgary Flames winger Matthew Tkachuk delivered a brutal hit to Kassian along the boards, he responded by chucking Tkachuk to the ice before delivering punch after punch to the head.

It was a wild scene reminiscent of old-school hockey.

Kassian’s frustration didn’t seem to stem from just one play. Tkachuk crushed Kassian during the first period of the game, with Tkachuk’s hip meeting Kassian’s head, which sent him helicoptering to the ice.

But Tkachuk wasn’t penalized for either hit. Kassian, meanwhile, received a misconduct and a double-minor for roughing in the second period after the fight. At the start of the third period, the Flames took advantage of the power-play opportunity, and managed a 4-3 lead, which was the final score.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced that Kassian will face a hearing on Monday.

Edmonton Oilers at Toronto Maple Leafs odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Edmonton Oilers at Toronto Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

The Edmonton Oilers (22-17-5) and Toronto Maple Leafs (24-14-5) square off at Scotiabank Arena at 7 p.m. ET Monday (on NBCSN). We analyze the Oilers-Maple Leafs sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Oilers at Maple Leafs: Projected starting goalies

Mike Smith vs. Frederik Andersen

Smith is expected to make the start in Connor McDavid’s only visit to his hometown of Toronto. Smith enters with an 8-9-3 record, 3.01 goals against average (GAA) and .897 save percentage with one shutout. He snapped a personal five-game skid with a 4-1 win vs. the Boston Bruins Saturday, stopping 35 of 36 shots.

The All-Star Andersen puts his 21-8-4 record with a 2.67 GAA and .916 save percentage and one shutout on the line. His recent play has been the opposite of Smith, as he is 6-0-1 across his past seven appearances, while the Leafs are 9-0-1 in their past 10 outings to surge in the Atlantic Division.

Prediction

Maple Leafs 5, Oilers 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Maple Leafs (-223) are too expensive at this price level, even though they’re at home, even though they have a red-hot goaltender, and even though they’re putting up huge offensive totals. This marquee game with big-time offense on both sides could go either way, although I expect Toronto’s hot streak to continue.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The MAPLE LEAFS (-1.5, +110) are worth a roll of the dice in what is sure to be a game featuring fire-wagon hockey. Toronto’s defense, or lack thereof, is concerning, but the offense has been on point lately, as has Andersen in the crease.

The Oilers (+1.5, -134) have won just four of their past 13 games overall, while going 2-6 in the past eight against the Atlantic Division. They’re also 3-8 in the past 11 as an underdog. More importantly, they’re 6-20 in the past 26 battles with the Leafs, and 0-7 in their past seen trips to Toronto.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6.5 (+110) will fetch plus-money, but it’s the way to go here. Yes, the under is 4-0-1 in Edmonton’s past five road games, and 7-3-1 in Toronto’s past 11 at home. But Smith can be beaten frequently, and the Toronto offense is red-hot.

New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Tuesday’s New York Rangers at Edmonton Oilers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The New York Rangers (19-15-4) and Edmonton Oilers (20-17-4) face-off at Rogers Place at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday. We analyze the Rangers-Oilers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL matchup analysis, picks and tips.

Rangers at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Alexandar Georgiev vs. Mike Smith

Georgiev is tabbed for the start in Edmonton, closing out the decade for the Original Six Blueshirts. He puts his 10-7-1 record, 2.99 goals against average and .915 save percentage with two shutouts on the season. He won in Toronto Saturday, making 44 saves on 48 shots in an overtime victory.

Smith has rolled up a 7-9-2 record with a 3.12 GAA and .893 save percentage with one shutout. He hasn’t won since Nov. 23 in Las Vegas, taking losses in each of his past four starts (0-3-1).

Prediction

Rangers 5, Oilers 3

Moneyline (ML)

The RANGERS (+125) are slight underdogs on the road against the Oilers (-150), and they’re the better value with the better backstop, as Smith has been too erratic lately.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Rangers (+1.5, -223) are just too expensive on the puck line. A much better value, and an intriguing play, is rolling with the alternative spread, taking the Rangers (-1.5, +310). It’s a risky play, but it’s also nice to triple up to fund your night out while you watch the ball drop.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-154) comes with a pricey juice tag, but it’s worth a look. Smith has been a sieve lately, and even though Georgiev has been sharp in the pipes, the Rangers defense makes their goaltender face a lot of rubber. He is going to give up several goals, even in a win.

Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Friday’s Pittsburgh Penguins at Edmonton Oilers sports betting odds and lines, with NHL betting picks, tips and best bets.

The Pittsburgh Penguins (20-10-4) visit the Edmonton Oilers (19-14-4) Friday at Rogers Place for a 9 p.m. ET puck drop. We analyze the Penguins-Oilers sports betting odds and lines, while providing NHL betting tips and picks around this matchup.

Penguins at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Matt Murray vs. Mike Smith

Murray is 10-5-4 with an .897 save percentage and 2.85 goals against average. He stopped 25 of 28 shots in a win over the Detroit Red Wings his last time out, but hasn’t played since Dec. 7 due to the tremendous run backup Tristan Jarry has been on of late.

Smith has also been off for more than a week. He gave up six goals on 26 shots Dec. 12. He is 7-8-2 with an .896 SV% and 3.08 GAA.

Penguins at Oilers: Odds, picks and betting tips

Prediction

Oilers 5, Penguins 3

Moneyline (ML)

The Penguins (-134) have won three straight, including a 4-1 win at the Calgary Flames Tuesday. The Oilers (+110) fell 2-1 at the St. Louis Blues Wednesday and have dropped five of their last six. The Penguins remain without captain Sidney Crosby.

Take the value with the OILERS (+110). They’re 8-6-3 on home ice and getting plus-money. The Pens are just 6-6-2 on the road and shouldn’t be such heavy favorites against Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Co.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Get a little insurance by backing the OILERS (+1.5, -250) to stay within 1 goal in a loss or to win outright, albeit as a much less profitable play than the plus-money on the moneyline. The Oilers are 18-19 ATS for the season but just 4-13 at home, while the Pens are 16-18 ATS overall and 8-6 on the road. Plus, three of the Oilers’ last five losses were by just single tallies.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 5.5 (-139) with too rusty goaltenders expected to start. The two teams combine to average 6.18 goals for per game with 5.65 goals allowed per game.

Oilers at Blues: Projected starting goalies

Mikko Koskinen vs. Jake Allen

Koskinen is 12-5-2 with a 2.65 goals against average (GAA) and a .917 save percentage. He is 2-2 in his last four games, but is coming of a 2-1 victory at the Dallas Stars Monday when he stopped 34 of 35 shots.

Allen is 5-2-2 with a 2.33 GAA and a .925 SV%. The backup to Jordan Binnington is 1-1 with a 1.45 GAA and a .953 SV% in two starts (three games) in December. He lost his last start, a 5-2 setback at the Buffalo Sabres Tuesday, allowing three goals on 31 shots.

Prediction

Blues 5, Oilers 2

Moneyline (ML)

Both teams enter Wednesday off of a day of rest. The Blues beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 for a third straight win Monday. The Oilers snapped a four-game slide with a 2-1 road win over the Dallas Stars. Back the BLUES (-167) as the home favorites. They’ve been the better team this season by Corsi (percent of all shot attempts), scoring chances and PDO (shooting percentage plus save percentage) at 5-on-5.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet on the Blues to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $6.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Get better value by taking the BLUES (-1.5, +155) to win by at least 2 goals on home ice. St. Louis is 17-18 ATS overall and 7-11 ATS at Enterprise Center. The Oilers are 17-19 ATS overall and 13-6 ATS on the road, but five of their last seven losses were by margins of at least 2 goals.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the OVER 5.5 (-125) with the Blues likely to take care of most of the scoring on their own against the Oilers. St. Louis is 7-3-0 against the Over/Under across its last 10 games, Edmonton is 4-6-0. The two teams combine to average 6 goals scored per game.

Oilers at Stars: Projected starting goalies

Mike Smith vs. Ben Bishop

Smith is 7-8-2 on the year with a .896 save percentage and a 3.08 goals against average. He was roughed up by the Minnesota Wild his last time out, allowing six goals on 26 shots faced. He hasn’t been credited with a victory since Nov. 23.

Bishop had won three straight games before an overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights Friday. He is 12-6-3 with a 2.07 GAA and .933 SV%. He has been even better on home ice with a .944 SV% through 15 games.

Prediction

Oilers 3, Stars 2

Moneyline (ML)

The OILERS (+155) have lost four straight games; two of those were by just one goal with one game going to overtime. They’re the play at plus-money against a Stars team coming off a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators Saturday. Edmonton is 10-7-1 on the road while Dallas is 12-4-2 at home.

The Stars won the season’s first head-to-head meeting 5-4 in overtime in Edmonton Nov. 16. Monday’s line doesn’t reflect the close score. Take the value with the Oilers on an inflated number.

New to sports betting? A $10 bet for the Oilers to win in regulation, overtime or a shootout returns a profit of $15.50.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

Hedge against the OILERS’ (+1.5, -182) outright victory by also backing the visitors to lose by a single goal or win straight up on the puck line. Edmonton is just 16-19 against the spread overall, but it’s 12-6 ATS on the road. Dallas is 19-15 ATS overall but just 9-9 at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

Take the UNDER 5.5 (-133). Bishop is at the top of his game and Smith will have some extra motivation against one of his former teams. The Stars are 2-6-2 against the Over/Under across their last 10 games. The Oilers went 5-5 against the projected totals over their last 10.

Buffalo Sabres at Edmonton Oilers odds, picks and best bets

Sabres at Oilers: Projected starting goalies

Linus Ullmark vs. Mike Smith

Ullmark has a 7-6-2 record for New Jersey with a 2.94 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. Ullmark stopped 25 of 29 shots in a 4-3 loss at the Calgary Flames Thursday.

Smith has a 7-7-1 record, sporting a 2.88 GAA and .905 SV%. He has struggled at home in his last two appearances, turning aside 44 of 51 shots.

Prediction

Oilers 4, Sabres 3

Moneyline (ML)

The OILERS (-176) are the play. They’re facing a Sabres team which lost 6-5 in OT at the Vancouver Canucks Saturday. Buffalo is just 5-8-3 on the road and has lost its previous two games. Edmonton has lost three of its last five – all three defeats coming on the road. But with an 8-4-2 home record, the Oilers are the suggested pick.

New to sports betting? Every $1.76 wagered that the Oilers win profits $1 if they prevail.

Puck Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

AVOID. The Sabres are 19-11 ATS, which is fourth in the league. The Oilers are just 15-16 ATS, ranking 17th. Backing Buffalo (+1.5, -189) is asking too much to risk. Edmonton (-1.5, +155) offers a nice payoff, but it has been up and down lately.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (-150) is a bit of a rough number as far as profit margin, but given the goalies in this matchup six or more goals is very likely. Buffalo yields 3.5 goals per game on the road and a 73.6% penalty kill (30th in the NHL). Edmonton allows 3.29 goals per game at home. The Oilers have the best power play in the league at 32.2% with Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid leading the way. LEAN to the Over.

Placing a $10 bet will profit $6.67 if there are six or more goals.
