Bucs place DL Earnest Brown on injured reserve, eligible to return

On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed defensive lineman Earnest Brown on injured reserve due to a rib injury.

On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed defensive lineman Earnest Brown on injured reserve due to a rib injury. He can return this year for the Buccaneers after missing four games.

Brown has been a surprise on the Bucs’ defensive front this preseason. So much to the point that he beat out others expected to make the roster and found himself a part of the 53-man roster after training camp.

Brown entered the NFL after being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with them before joining the Bucs this offseason. Once he arrived, he played like he was ready to establish himself with a new franchise and fanbase.

The Bucs have started a youth movement on defense, and at 25 years old, he could find himself involved in a meaningful role upon returning. Being schemed within Todd Bowles’ defense, he could provide some favorable matchups alongside Yaya Diaby and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

Rams sign DE Earnest Brown IV back to the practice squad after waiving him

After releasing Earnest Brown IV, the Rams brought him back on the practice squad

One day after waiving him from the active roster, the Los Angeles Rams brought back Earnest Brown IV. They signed him to the practice squad on Tuesday, retaining the 2021 fifth-round pick.

Brown has been a healthy scratch for most of the season, playing just seven games and 56 defensive snaps, but he’s someone the Rams clearly want to continue developing on the practice squad and keeping around as depth along the defensive line.

He was selected 174th overall in 2021 but has played just 12 games in the last three years, making three starts (all in 2022).

Rams waive DE Earnest Brown IV ahead of playoffs – and on his birthday

The Rams have waived DE Earnest Brown IV, who they drafted in the fifth round three years ago. Today is his birthday, too.

Ahead of their playoff matchup with the Detroit Lions, the Los Angeles Rams made a roster move. They waived defensive end Earnest Brown IV, whom they drafted in the fifth round in 2021.

Brown was waived as a rookie in 2021 but was signed to the practice squad, where he remained all season. In the last two years, he’s bounced between the active roster and practice squad but it looks like he won’t be part of the postseason roster.

Brown has played just 12 games in three seasons, recording 14 tackles and no sacks. He played seven games this season but only 56 total snaps on defense, 12 of which came on Sunday against the 49ers.

What makes this move even worse for Brown is that today is his birthday, so it’s not the way he was hoping to celebrate.

They even wished him a happy birthday on social media three hours before waiving him.

With the loss to Seattle on Sunday, Los Angeles finishes the season with a dismal 5-12 record after winning the Super Bowl last season. The Rams also got swept by the Seahawks this season and both games were decided by three points.

Following another devastating loss for the Rams, here are our six immediate takeaways from the regular-season finale.

5 Rams to watch in preseason Week 2 vs. Texans

The Rams will host the Texans in Week 2 of the preseason and here are 5 players that fans should be monitoring on Friday.

The Los Angeles Rams got started on the right foot in their preseason opener versus the Los Angeles Chargers, defeating the team they share a stadium with by a score of 29-22. It was an exciting contest for an exhibition game as the Rams had multiple players stand out with strong performances.

After taking on the Chargers, the Rams will host the Houston Texans in Week 2 of the preseason this Friday. Even though Sean McVay won’t deploy many starters in the preseason, there are still plenty of notable players to keep an eye on.

Ahead of Friday’s preseason bout with the Texans, let’s take a look at five members of the Rams that fans should be watching closely.

10 players on the Rams’ roster bubble entering training camp

The Rams will need to trim their roster down to 53 players before Week 1 of the 2022 season, putting these 10 players on the roster bubble.

It’s almost the time of the year when training camps commence around the NFL, with plenty of players trying to compete for roster spots on their respective teams. Players will be arriving at training camp for the Los Angeles Rams on July 23 as all eyes will be on certain position battles ahead of the upcoming season.

Unfortunately, not every player on the current roster is going to make the active roster for the Rams this year. Before the 2022 season kicks off, Los Angeles will have to trim their roster to 53 players, meaning that there will be quite a few difficult decisions to make.

Some players are going to have a tougher time than others to earn a roster spot and they’ll need strong showings during training camp to prove their worth. With playing in the NFL being a brutal line of work, here are 10 players that are on the roster bubble for the Rams entering training camp.

Earnest Brown IV is only 2021 draft pick not to make Rams’ 53-man roster

Earnest Brown IV didn’t make the Rams’ 53-man roster as a fifth-round rookie, the only 2021 draft pick cut by L.A.

Just because a player is drafted doesn’t mean he’s going to make the team as a rookie. That’s especially true of late-round picks taken on the final day of the draft.

Earnest Brown IV is an example of that. The fifth-round rookie is the Rams’ only draft pick who did not make the 53-man roster, a somewhat surprising decision by the team. However, Brown didn’t make many standout plays in the preseason and the Rams are deep along the defensive line.

The Rams’ three seventh-round picks – Jake Funk, Ben Skowronek and Chris Garrett – all made the team, an accomplishment they can all feel great about.

Brown looked like someone who could replace Morgan Fox at defensive end in a pass-rushing role when he was drafted out of Northwestern, but he had a quiet camp and preseason. The Rams can still try to bring him back on the practice squad, but that will only happen if he clears waivers first.

Rams scout: Rookie Earnest Brown IV ‘could really carve out a role this year’

Earnest Brown IV was a fifth-round pick, but he could carve out a role as a rookie along the defensive line.

Changes are coming to the Los Angeles Rams’ defensive line this season after the team traded Michael Brockers to the Lions and lost Morgan Fox in free agency. Aaron Donald and Sebastian Joseph-Day will remain starters, and A’Shawn Robinson is likely to have a bigger role, but don’t sleep on rookie Earnest Brown IV.

The Rams’ fifth-round pick, Brown comes to L.A. from Northwestern, where he had seven sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss in three seasons as a contributor. He didn’t stuff the stat sheet, but he made impactful plays, such as his nine batted passes at the line.

His versatility will be an asset for the Rams, too. He can play outside linebacker, defensive end and defensive tackle, giving Eric Henderson and Raheem Morris options up front. After the draft, Rams scout Brian Hill said he thinks Brown could make an impact as a rookie this year.

“I think [he] could play 7[-technique], 5, 4i, 3, rush inside, set the edge on run downs. I think he could really carve out a role this year,” Hill said on Epsiode 7 of “Inside the Draft.”

Senior personnel executive Brian Xanders also raved about Brown’s intangibles, like his “power, instincts, competitiveness, toughness.” He also said Brown “has a GPS he can track the angles of the ball and react accordingly off his block,” which is an example of his awareness on the field.

Brown may not have been the most productive college player, but he’s got the makings of a good pro – especially in the Rams’ versatile scheme that features elements of both a 3-4 and 4-3 front.

Watch: Earnest Brown had some phone trouble during first call from Sean McVay

Earnest Brown’s phone was not cooperating after the Los Angeles Rams drafted him with the 174th overall pick.

As a draft prospect, getting the call from the team that’s drafting you is a memory to never forget. Earnest Brown IV surely won’t forget his call from Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams.

After McVay gave Brown a call to share the good news, Brown’s phone cut out and dropped the call. Then McVay called him back and it went straight to voicemail.

“Hey man, I can’t believe you hung up on me!” McVay joked with the incoming rookie.

Brown obviously didn’t hang up on McVay, it’s just that he was in an area with bad reception.

Talk about an awkward first moment with your head coach.
