Oklahoma’s scholarship situation with early national signing day

With the early national signing day taking place, a look at Oklahoma’s scholarship numbers is needed. The numbers are extremely thin.

This post will be updated throughout Dec. 18 as commitments and signings take are announced.

With the early national signing day taking place, a look at Oklahoma’s scholarship numbers is needed.

The Sooners have already had six players enter the transfer portal, most recent with wide receiver Mykel Jones yesterday, which has opened things up, but the numbers remain extremely tight for the 2020 and 2021 recruiting classes.

Heading into Wednesday, Oklahoma had 74 scholarship players on its 2019 roster. The Sooners will lose 12 seniors and already have 20 recruits committed for the 2020 class. There are three free scholarships currently available for the ’20 class, and with the expectation of CeeDee Lamb and Kenneth Murray heading into the NFL Draft, that number easily rises to five.

More spots could come open, but the number is razor thin and Oklahoma could be full for the 2020 season after today. If not, then the Feb. NCAA signing period will suit the Sooners best after decisions are made after the season.

Here is the full scholarship chart for Oklahoma.

*The green number is scholarships for the 2020 season
