Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson to give command for 2024 Daytona 500

NASCAR announced on Sunday night that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will give the command for the 2024 Daytona 500.

NASCAR has landed a massive star ahead of the 2024 Daytona 500. On Sunday night, NASCAR announced that [autotag]Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson[/autotag] will give the command to start engines at the 2024 Daytona 500. This is a huge addition to the Cup Series, with Pitbull performing pre-race at Daytona International Speedway.

The sport’s biggest event in 2024 will be the 66th running, and the names couldn’t be any bigger. This isn’t the first time “The Rock” has served as a grand marshall for a NASCAR race. In April 2004, he gave the command to start engines at the Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. Now, Johnson is doing at NASCAR’s “Great American Race.”

NASCAR’s aggressive mindset of acquiring top-tier talent for its races has worked out again. Over the past few years, former United States president Donald Trump, former NFL player J.J. Watt, and several others have served as the grand marshall for the Daytona 500. Now, it’s “The Rock” who will have the honor on Sunday, February 18.

XFL’s Brian Hill emulates The Rock with People’s Elbow after touchdown

An homage to XFL boss Dwayne Johnson from Battlehawks RB Brian Hill

St. Louis Battlehawks running back Brian Hill delivered on a promise Sunday as his team dueled the D.C. Defenders in XFL 2023 play.

Hill had said he would deliver the People’s Elbow — made famous by XFL honcho Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

AJ McCarron found Hill wide open in the flat and the RB did the rest.

Once the six points were on the scoreboard, Hill went into his WWE act.

And the real deal:

The XFL 2023 introduces its football, which will have a first

Dany Garcia’s name will be on the XFL footballs in the 2023 season

The XFL is starting to build for its return in 2023.

The league that has two strikes already is backed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and its chairwoman, Dany Garcia.

The league revealed its football on Tuesday and it will be different than any ball used in any other football league.

Why? Because the signature on the football will be that of Garcia, making her the first female to have her name on a pro football league’s game ball.

XFL reveals team names for third go-round

The XFL has revealed the team names for its third try at success

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his business team are hoping the third time is the charm for an XFL.

The fledgling — it seems to be always fledgling — football league revealed its team names on Monday.

Some are new and some are holdovers from XFL II.

The league will kick off in spring of 2023.

Watch Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s eye-popping reaction to Michael Chandler’s knockout of Tony Ferguson

‘The Rock’ nearly spit out his drink as Michael Chandler connected with the front kick that knocked out Tony Ferguson at UFC 274.

Even the biggest star in Hollywood gets floored when incredible things happen inside the octagon.

[autotag]Dwayne Johnson[/autotag], who has been a fan of the UFC for many years, posted a selfie-style video to social media showing his reaction to the insane knockout that [autotag]Michael Chandler[/autotag] created with his front kick to the chin of Tony Ferguson at UFC 274.

In the video, “The Rock” appears to be enjoying the pay-per-view event by himself with a cold beverage close by. The video starts as the second round of Chandler vs. Ferguson begins.

“Let me tell you something, you could feel the electricity and the mana,” Johnson said in the video posted to Instagram, reacting to the energy of the first round. “You could feel it through the TV. By the way, I could just imagine how it is in this arena. Let’s f*cking go, boys.”

Johnson turned his camera back toward his television screen for a moment and then back to himself to offer a toast to the camera, naturally, with a brand he owns, Teremana Tequila.

Just as Johnson began to sip from his glass, the front kick from Chandler landed that put Ferguson down, and “The Rock” nearly spit out his drink as his eyes opened wide in disbelief.

“Holy sh*t,” Johnson said after a few seconds of silence. “F*cking incredible. Chandler caught Ferguson I think with a high right kick. That was in-f*cking-credible.”

Johnson is no stranger to attending UFC events and keeping up with the news surrounding the promotion and the sport of MMA. In addition to taking in a number of events cageside over the years, “The Rock” has also been a direct participant in the festivities.

At UFC 244, Johnson cut a promo at the weigh-ins and wrapped the “BMF” title around [autotag]Jorge Masvidal[/autotag]’s waist after he defeated Nate Diaz in the pay-per-view’s main event.

Former Washington defensive coordinator Jim Haslett is a head coach again

Former Washington defensive coordinator Jim Haslett is named one of the XFL’s eight head coaches for the league’s relaunch in 2023.

Former Washington defensive coordinator Jim Haslett is not fondly remembered by the team’s fans. Haslett’s defenses struggled during his five-year tenure with the Commanders under Mike Shanahan (four seasons) and Jay Gruden (one season).

After being out of the spotlight working as an NFL position coach for the most part since Washington fired him after the 2014 season, Haslett is back in the news.

XFL co-owners Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia appeared on “Get Up” on ESPN Wednesday and announced the eight head coaches for the league’s relaunch in 2023. The 66-year-old Haslett will lead one of those eight XFL franchises.

After departing Washington, Haslett spent one season at Penn State as a consultant, three seasons with the Bengals as a linebackers coach and the past two seasons with the Titans as an inside linebackers coach.

Haslett is a former NFL head coach and was named NFL coach of the year back in 2000 with the New Orleans Saints.

Here are the other XFL head coaches:

  • Wade Phillips
  • Hines Ward
  • Bob Stoops
  • Rod Woodson
  • Anthony Becht
  • Reggie Barlow
  • Terrell Buckley

Phillips is one of the best defensive coordinators of all time and has been an NFL head coach for multiple teams. Stoops is a national championship coach from Oklahoma, who was with the XFL in its previous relaunch in 2020.

Ward, Buckley, Barlow, Becht, Woodson and Haslett are all former NFL players.

Individual team assignments will be named at a later date.

Garcia and Johnson acquired the XFL in August 2020 for $15 million.

Bob Stoops returning to the XFL as a head coach for 2023 restart

Former Sooners head coach Bob Stoops will return to the XFL for the 2023 restart under new owners Dany Garcia and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Former Oklahoma Sooners head coach Bob Stoops is returning to the sidelines in 2023 as one of eight head coaches in the newest iteration of the XFL.

Led by Dany Garcia and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the league will restart in 2023 with eight teams and like he did back in 2020, Stoops will be the head coach of one of those eight teams. Joining Stoops as head coaches will be Wade Phillips, Hines Ward, Rod Woodson, Jim Haslett, Anthony Becht, Reggie Barlow, and Terrell Buckley.

The league will serve in a similar role to that of the USFL. A spring alternative for players who aren’t signed by NFL teams but want to continue to develop and have a chance to stick with an NFL roster.

Dany Garcia is the first woman to hold a majority ownership in a professional sports league. Teamed up with fellow owner Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson provides the league with a fantastic marketing duo as they look to restart the league in 2023.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was asked by Mike Greenberg of ESPN’s “Get Up” what led Johnson to get involved with the XFL. The Rock said, “I would have loved to play for the XFL when I was coming out of college. Especially under this new iteration of the XFL. New ownership where we want to create a league of culture, a league of innovation. And at the end of the day, I got involved with the XFL, became an XFL owner with Dany (Garcia) to see dreams come true.”

In 2020, the Dallas Renegades went 2-3, led by former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Landry Jones. They were 2-0 on the road and 0-3 at home during a season that was cut short due to COVID-19.

Stoops returned to the Oklahoma sidelines last December to help the Sooners through their coaching transition and guided OU to a 47-33 win over the Oregon Ducks.
