The Pittsburgh Steelers have 51 players working this weekend at their annual rookie minicamp. Keep in mind, as you can see from the roster below, it isn’t just about the rookies as there are multiple groups of players.

The Steelers full 2023 NFL draft class is on hand including offensive tackle Broderick Jones and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. The Steelers also have five players at camp who were on the roster in 2022 as rookies. This includes cornerback Chris Wilcox and running back Master Teague.

The elder statesman of this group is former Baltimore Ravens tight end and long snapper Nick Boyle. He is heading into his ninth NFL season and has 53 career starts.

XFL’s Brian Hill emulates The Rock with People’s Elbow after touchdown

An homage to XFL boss Dwayne Johnson from Battlehawks RB Brian Hill

St. Louis Battlehawks running back Brian Hill delivered on a promise Sunday as his team dueled the D.C. Defenders in XFL 2023 play.

Hill had said he would deliver the People’s Elbow — made famous by XFL honcho Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

AJ McCarron found Hill wide open in the flat and the RB did the rest.

Once the six points were on the scoreboard, Hill went into his WWE act.

And the real deal:

Steelers sign former Vikings WR Dan Chisena to futures contract

The Steelers add another player to the offseason roster.

In an attempt to get their offseason roster in order, the Pittsburgh Steelers announced another addition via a futures contract. The team announced on Monday they had signed wide receiver Dan Chisena.

Chisena came into the NFL in 2020 as an undrafted free agent. He spent his first three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. Chisena was active for 27 games over three seasons but was exclusively a special teams player. He has zero catches in the NFL.

It makes sense the Steelers would be interested in Chisena. He played his college football at Penn State. It’s impossible to speculate what Chisena’s role could be with the Steelers and he looks to be more of a training camp player with very little chance to make the team if he cannot contribute on offense.

Steelers troll broadcaster Kurt Warner with amazing photo

Kurt Warner has bad memories of Super Bowl XLIII.

On Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Eve and the game will be televised on NFL Network. Former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner will call the game and he shared this pic from Acrisure Stadium where the team accidentally trolled him from his time as a player.

Warner was the Cardinals starting quarterback when they took on the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII. Considered one of the most exciting Super Bowls of all time, the game-winning touchdown catch by Pittsburgh wide receiver Santonio Holmes is an iconic play. And brings back some tough memories for Warner as the team had a photo of it just outside the broadcast booth.

Should the Steelers add a veteran QB in free agency?

Our question today is all about the backup quarterback position.

[jwplayer e2VMjrG7-ThvAeFxT]

We’ve heard over and over this offseason that the Pittsburgh Steelers are satisfied with their backup quarterback situation. But the majority of fans and the media all believe the Steelers need to bolster depth at quarterback if for no other reason than to avoid what happened in 2019.

The last thing the Steelers want is a repeat of what happened last season and see them squander another great season out of the defense and all that talent on offense with terrible quarterback play.

So as we approach whatever training camp and offseason workouts will look like, we wonder if despite their confidence in Mason Rudolph, should the Steelers front office sign a veteran as insurance?

[polldaddy poll=10554608]

No one is saying a veteran signing would change the long-term plans of the Steelers. If the goal is to eventually hand the job over to Rudolph, so be it. But in a year when this team is loaded to win, why not have a more stable option behind Roethlisberger?

XFL blocked Steelers from signing 2 quarterbacks

Pittsburgh tried to bring back Landry Jones.

When the Pittsburgh Steelers lost quarterback Ben Roethlisberger halfway through the second game of the season, no one knew what was going to happen with the position. What ended up happening was the Steelers turned to Mason Rudolph before benching him and opening up Duck season with Devlin Hodges.

But according to Jordan Heck of Sporting News, this wasn’t Plan A. In an interview with XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck, he admitted the Steelers tried to sign two XFL quarterbacks and was blocked by the league in both cases.

Luck noted the Steelers inquired about signing Landry Jones, who spent his first five NFL seasons backing up Roethlisberger and has five career starts. Luck said the Steelers also checked on the availability of Phillip Walker as a potential scout-team quarterback to simulate Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. Again the XFL declined.

Things all worked out as they should with the Steelers and their quarterback position. If the Steelers had signed Jones they might have just lived with his mediocrity and Hodges would have never gotten his opportunity.
