UFC Fight Night 212 video: Dusko Todorovic TKOs bloodied, exhausted Jordan Wright

Jordan Wright’s gas tank once again failed him against Dusko Todorovic on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 212.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Jordan Wright[/autotag]’s gas tank once again failed him against [autotag]Dusko Todorovic[/autotag] on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 212.

Todorovic (12-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) and Wright (12-4 MMA, 2-4 UFC) were tabbed as potential Fight of the Night contenders going into the middleweight bout at the UFC Apex. It was a matter of who was going to fade first and fade harder, and it was evident going into the second round who that would be.

After Wright’s gas tank fell off a cliff following a competitive first round, Todorovic put the pressure on standing and with the ground-and-pound. He got into mount and split Wright open with punches and elbows and kept pouring it on until the referee called it off.

Check out the replay of the finish below (via Twitter):

After the fight, Todorovic revealed he was quite fatigued in his own case, but knew he would be able to dig deep and get his hand raised.

“We definitely planned on finishing the fight on the feet, but I knew even if we go to the ground it wasn’t going to be easy,” Todorovic said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “Jordan is a tough fighter … we knew it was going to be a tough challenge.”

UFC Fight Night 212: Jordan Wright vs. Dusko Todorovic odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 212 odds and lines between Jordan Wright vs. Dusko Todorovic, with MMA picks, tips and predictions.

In a middleweight bout on the main card, Jordan Wright and Dusko Todorovic meet Saturday at UFC Fight Night 212 at UFC’s APEX Facility in Las Vegas. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the UFC Fight Night 212: Wright vs. Todorovic odds, with expert picks and predictions.

The fight can be viewed on ESPN+ with the prelims beginning at 4 p.m. ET and the main card at 7 p.m. ET.

Wright, a.k.a. “The Beverly Hills Ninja”, heads into this one on a 2-fight skid. Not only has he lost, but both setbacks were in the 1st round. He was submitted by Marc-Andre Barriault last time out in late April, and knocked out in Round 1 by Bruno Silva at UFC 269.

Todorovic would love to add to Wright’s woes. “Thunder” also suffered a Round 1 loss last time out against Chidi Njokuani in late May on the same card as the Wright-Barriault fight. Todorovic has lost 3 of his past 4 fights overall, too, including a pair of knockout losses.

Wright looks to use his 3-inch reach advantage to keep Todorovic at a distance. He has a 7.37-to-5.36 significant strikes landed per minute advantage, and he also owns a 2.38-to-1.14 takedown average advantage.

UFC Fight Night 212 Wright vs. Todorovic picks and predictions

Records: Wright (12-3-0) | Todorovic (11-3-0)

Fight result (2-way line or money line)

WRIGHT (+175) is a value play on the 2-way line, as he should be able to use his reach advantage to pick and choose his spots to move in.

Wright has struggled recently, and might be fighting to stick around in the UFC, needing a win. I expect to see a little desperation on his part after a pair of Round 1 losses. Todorovic is standing on a lot more firmer ground.

Over/Under (O/U)

No (-700): Fight to go the distance, and/or Under 1.5 Rounds (-230), are each too expensive, and there is no value playing either side.

PASS, and just stick to the 2-way line upset play.

The stays on its home turf after an off week, and a pair of women’s flyweight contenders are atop the bill.

UFC Fight Night 212 takes place Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The card streams on ESPN+.

(Click here to open a PDF of the staff picks grid in a separate window.)

In the main event, [autotag]Alexa Grasso[/autotag] (14-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) takes on [autotag]Viviane Araujo[/autotag] (11-3 MMA, 5-2 UFC) at 125 pounds. Grasso is a -240 favorite at Tipico Sportsbook; the comeback on Araujo is +180. Our 11 editors, writers, radio hosts and videographers have Grasso as our lone unanimous picks on the main card at 11-0.

The co-main event features [autotag]Jonathan Martinez[/autotag] (16-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) against [autotag]Cub Swanson[/autotag] (28-12 MMA, 13-8 UFC) at bantamweight in Swanson’s move to the division after spending the bulk of his career, including the past nearly 15 years, at featherweight. Martinez is more than a 2-1 favorite, but most of our pickers are bucking the odds and have Swanson with a big 8-3 lead.

Also on the main card, [autotag]Dusko Todorovic[/autotag] (11-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) takes on [autotag]Jordan Wright[/autotag] (12-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) at middleweight. Todorovic is more than a 2-1 favorite and has an 8-3 picks lead.

[autotag]Raphael Assuncao[/autotag] (27-9 MMA, 11-6 UFC) is the event’s second biggest underdog in his bantamweight fight against [autotag]Victor Henry[/autotag] (22-5 MMA, 1-0 UFC), who is a -420 favorite. But Henry has just a 6-5 lead from our staff members.

And to open the main card, [autotag]Misha Cirkunov[/autotag] (15-8 MMA, 6-6 UFC) meets [autotag]Alonzo Menifield[/autotag] (12-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC) at light heavyweight. Menifield is a -220 favorite and has a blowout in the picks at 9-2.

In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Grasso (78 percent), Swanson (55 percent), Todorovic (61 percent), Henry (63 percent) and Menifield (75 percent) are the choices.

UFC Fight Night 212: Dusko Todorovic looking forward to ‘stylistically great’ matchup vs. Jordan Wright

At UFC Fight Night 212, Dusko Todorovic will have his head coach in his corner for the first time in his UFC career.

LAS VEGAS – UFC middleweight [autotag]Dusko Todorovic[/autotag] is looking forward to having his head coach in his corner as he looks to rebound from a tough result in his last outing.

For the first time in his UFC career, Todorovic’s coach will be in his corner for his UFC Fight Night 212 bout against Jordan Wright at UFC Apex. Todorovic (11-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC) has fought five times under the promotion’s banner, and each time he was without his lead man guiding him. Against Wright (12-3 MMA, 2-3 UFC), however, things will be different as Todorovic looks to rebound from a knockout loss to Chidi Njokuani in May.

“I think that will most likely make a difference,” Todorovic told reporters including MMA Junkie at Wednesday’s media day. “It will affect me not making a stupid mistake like that.”

That mistake he’s referring to is being caught with an elbow that ended the fight against Njokuani.

“It really does make a difference when you have your coach in between rounds telling you what to do or before the fight,” Todorovic said. “It’s a funny thing, he texted my other cornerman who was with me just as we were going out to the octagon, he texted him, ‘Be careful, watch out for the elbows.’ Yeah, so you see what I’m talking about.”

[lawrence-related id=2587745,2587753]

Both of Todorovic’s UFC wins have come by stoppage, as he recorded finishes of Dequan Townsend and Maki Pitolo. Only one of his five bouts with the promotion has reached the judges’ scorecards. On Saturday, he expects the fight against Wright to finish before the final horn.

“Considering Jordan’s style and way of fighting, and my style, way of fighting, I think it most likely won’t go to the judges decision, and I think we’ll both make sure of that,” Todorovic said. “As I said, stylistically great matchup and yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”

UFC Fight Night 206 video: Chidi Njokuani demolishes Dusko Todorovic with brutal elbow knockout

Now that he’s finally in the UFC, [autotag]Chidi Njokuani[/autotag] isn’t messing around.

Njokuani (22-7 MMA, 2-0 UFC) scored his third finish inside the octagon Saturday at UFC Fight Night 206 by demolishing [autotag]Dusko Todorovic[/autotag] with a brutal elbow to knock him out at the 4:48 mark of the first round.

Check out this violence (via Twitter):

Including his appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series, the elbow knockout marked Njokuani’s third consecutive stoppage in the octagon. It took him all of 16 seconds to TKO Marc-André Barriault in his UFC debut in February.

Njokuani, 33, spent three years in Bellator and made an LFA appearance before getting his UFC opportunity. He’s certainly made the most of it so far.

UFC on ESPN 31 medical suspensions: Jose Aldo, Rob Font face 180 days for facial fractures

As a result of their UFC on ESPN 31 bouts, Jose Aldo, Rob Font, and five other fighters are facing six-month bans.

UFC on ESPN 31 provided the violence Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, but the highlights came with a price.

As a result of potential injuries sustained in their bouts, seven fighters were handed 180-day medical suspensions by the Nevada Athletic Commission, which oversaw the event.

Among those handed six-month terms were featherweight contenders [autotag]Jose Aldo[/autotag] (31-7 MMA, 21-6 UFC) and [autotag]Rob Font[/autotag] (19-4 MMA, 9-5 UFC), who competed in the main event and suffered eye injuries as a result of their battle.

[autotag]Jamahal Hill[/autotag], [autotag]Jimmy Crute[/autotag], [autotag]Brendan Allen[/autotag], [autotag]Dusko Todorovic[/autotag], and [autotag]Alonzo Menifield[/autotag], who competed on the undercard, also were suspended 180 days for various potential injuries.

On Tuesday, MMA Junkie acquired a full list of medical suspensions from MixedMartialArts.com, the official record keeper of the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC). All fighters’ suspensions can terminate sooner, should they be cleared by a doctor.

Dusko Todorovic was struck by car in July, re-injured mangled foot while warming up at UFC on ESPN 31

It’s not often that fighters detailing less-than-ideal circumstances encountered while training includes being struck by a vehicle.

LAS VEGAS – It’s not at all uncommon to hear of fighters detailing less-than-ideal circumstances encountered while training for a UFC appearance. However, it’s not often that those struggles includes being struck by a vehicle.

“It was a delicate situation,” [autotag]Dusko Todorovic[/autotag] told MMA Junkie following Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 31 event. “By the end of July, I got hit by a car. The guy ran over me while I was crossing, so he messed up my left leg pretty good, and I knew that the call was going to come, so I was thinking at that time of trying to prepare for a possible bout, you know? So when the contract came, I was still not training properly or anything.

“I couldn’t, you know, use my foot the right way, so there were definitely lots of setbacks during this camp and difficulties, all regarding that injury. I didn’t want to talk with anyone about it. I didn’t let even my family know. Just my girl knew, so yeah, it was pretty crazy.”

Todorovic (11-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) faced Maki Pitolo (13-9 MMA, 1-5 UFC) in the featured prelim of Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 31 card. It was an important contest for the 27-year-old middleweight after dealing with a pair of consecutive losses following an undefeated run of 10 fights to start his pro career.

Todorovic admits he wasn’t anywhere near 100 percent for the matchup but felt it was important to show up and compete.

[vertical-gallery id=1820848]

“I was on crutches for three weeks,” Todorovic told MMA Junkie via email. “Whilst in that state, I was able to only go to the gym and do therapy for my knee and foot. It was probably up until the middle of September when I came back to the Secutor Academy MMA gym and did my first light workout. It was mostly boxing on the bag without much movement. All the wrestling was mostly controlled drilling.

“I wasn’t able to do as much of sparring or even train as I normally do. We have had to modify everything for this fight.”

As if all that wasn’t enough for Todorovic, things continued to get worse for him during pre-fight warmups.

“My leg gave up on me during the warmup for the fight,” Todorovic admitted. “It snapped pretty hard as it slipped off the makeshift warmup tatami, so that was another obstacle I had to go over before actually crossing gloves with Maki.”

Fortunately for Todorovic, after fending off an early guillotine choke from his opponent, he was able to turn the tide, eventually working to a dominant position and pounding away with punches to score a first-round TKO.

While the numerous challenges he faced could have easily proven impossible to overcome, Todorovic said he turned his misfortune into anger and used it to fuel his performance.

“I got mad,” Todorovic said. “I was pissed off because then that leg was – even from earlier stages – it was injured. Those things occurred to me pretty often, you know, where my foot would just go ‘snap’ and get swollen and hurt a couple of days, and I got used to it, but to happen right before a fight – and the fight that’s so important for me – I got pissed, man.”

With the result, Todorovic returns to the win column and closes out a very difficult year on a high note. But don’t expect him to make a quick turnaround. While the Dana White’s Contender Series veteran is proud of what he accomplished in the face of immense difficulties, he also knows the importance of allowing himself a chance to now make a full recovery.

“I want to stay active, but I need to take care of this because it’s not a light injury, especially after a car hit me,” Todorovic said. “It’s still pretty fresh. You know, it was in July. The wounds, itself, closed up maybe a month-and-a-half ago, so it’s still pretty fresh. I would like to heal it properly so I can prepare for a fight and go with my A-game in the next bout.”

To hear the full interview with Todorovic, check out the video above. To see graphic video of the recovery process, see the video below.
