Let the tweets flow: Dune: Part Two takes over social media

Dune: Part Two has captivated fans on social media, making for some great jokes in the process.

The hype was all real. Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel spectacular, finally hit theaters last weekend after a multi-month delay due to entertainment industry labor disputes, and audiences stormed to the theaters like an army of holy warriors. The film brought in over $82 million in its opening weekend, putting it right on par with last summer’s Oppenheimer, a truly astonishing feat for a movie releasing in the typically-dead period of early March.

This deeply bizarre and captivating movie seems to have resonated with American audiences and those fans immediately ran to social media to do what all great Americans do when we’re deeply moved by a piece of art: turn it into little jokes for our friends.

Check out some of the very best posts to come out of America’s new favorite movie about giant worms that eat sand and poop out drugs!

A Dune Part Two fan rode into the theater on a customized sandworm in the coolest video

Now this is riding in style.

Dune: Part Two hit theaters over the weekend, and the fervor surrounding Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 book has reached incredible heights. The movie has gotten rave reviews from both critics and fans, and the Oscar buzz is already beginning for the amazing performances from Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and Austin Butler.

One fan in particular really stepped up the movie-viewing game, making a perfect Fremen stillsuit replica and customizing a mobile sandworm to ride around the theater. Incredible work.

Dune: Part Two lives up to every bit of hype

Clear your schedule, it’s time to see Dune: Part Two

When the first reviews of Dune: Part Two started trickling out on February 14 following the Paris premiere, one stood out to me. “I’m very grateful to be alive just to see this, to have the chance to see a film like this, it’s hard to describe,” said French critic Hycarius.

Grateful to be alive.

It’s a bold statement to throw out there for a movie, but it’s hung out in my brain for the last two weeks. After finally seeing Denis Villeneuve’s sequel to 2021’s Dune, I fear he was correct.

Dune: Part Two actually was that good. The sci-fi epic based on Frank Herbert’s novel does everything right. It’s well-paced, incredibly well-acted and makes you feel every range of emotion over the two-plus hour runtime. It’s the kind of movie that future generations will lament not getting to see in theaters the first time (although at that point everyone will probably have their own theater-like sound systems at home).

I don’t think anyone truly doubted the acting chops of Timothée Chalamet (Paul Atreides), Zendaya (Chani), Austin Butler (Feyd-Rautha) or Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan), but if they did, those doubts should be put to rest now. All four put out the best performances of their careers, and Chalamet, Zendaya and Butler should be getting Oscars buzz for 2025.

Rebecca Ferguson (Lady Jessica) was phenomenal — and should be shortlisted for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars — and Javier Bardem (Stilgar), Dave Bautista (Beast Rabban), Souhelia Yacoub (Shishakli) and Charlotte Rampling (Reverend Mother Mohiam) all turned out incredible performances.

Zimmer’s score is soul-shaking. The cinematography is breathtaking. The action scenes are tense and will have you holding your breath. Visual effects are flawless. This movie is so good, you’ll consider whether riding sand worms is a legitimate means of travel.

Part of me hopes you found this review after going to see Dune: Part Two. This type of hype is nearly impossible to live up to. But then I remember Hycarius and his bold statement. Just sit back, relax, avoid the creepy popcorn bucket and enjoy that you’re able to see this movie on the big screen when it was released.

Get yourself someone that supports you the way Stilgar supports Paul.

Dune: Part Two hits theaters on Friday, March 1, and the reviews coming in are nothing but stellar. It’s an incredible sci-fi epic that follows the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he navigates the planet of Arrakis alongside Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen against the House Harkonnen.

The prophecy of a mother and son bringing life and peace to Arrakis leads to some of the more religious of the Fremen buying into the possibility that Atreides is Lisan al Gaib, or the messiah. Atreides’s mother, Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) adds fire to the prophecy to convert the more skeptical, and Fremen leader Stilgar (the amazing Javier Bardem) is one of the biggest believers.

Stilgar’s unwavering support of Paul became an immediate meme online, and the jokes are fantastic.

Dune: Part Two is getting rave reviews across Rotten Tomatoes, Letterboxd and Metacritic

So, it seems like this movie is pretty good.

Dune: Part Two hits theaters on March 1, and to say expectations are high would be a gross understatement. The sci-fi epic was supposed to release in fall of 2023, but Hollywood strikes pushed it into 2024. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Rebecca Ferguson and Florence Pugh headline the star-studded cast, and the early reviews are indicating that the sequel is a massive success.

A surprise casting in Dune: Part Two has fans very excited for what it means

Dune: Part Two surprise casting alert!

The upcoming release of Dune: Part Two has everyone buzzing about the return to Arrakis, and a surprise member of the cast has been revealed.

Spoilers must flow like the spices from the dunes, so don’t keep reading unless you want to know who has joined the cast.

Actor Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) joined the Dune: Part Two ensemble on the red carpet in London this week ahead of its March 1 release, and Variety confirmed she is a part of the cast.

It’s possible (though not confirmed) Taylor-Joy is playing Alia Atreides, the younger sister of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides. Alia plays a major role in the book Dune Messiah, which director Denis Villeneuve plans to adapt into a sequel film

Movie fans were very excited about the news of Taylor-Joy’s addition to the Dune: Part Two cast and the possibility she’ll be around for another installment in the blockbuster series.

Sand invading the Dune: Part Two red carpet in London inspired plenty of jokes

Sand is the red carpet killer.

At the London premiere of the hotly anticipated sci-fi sequel Dune: Part Two, the Arrakis-themed red carpet display, well, made a bit of a mess.

As the dunes of the planet Arrakis are understandably covered in sand in the movie (hence the sandworms), the film’s premiere featured a sandy walkway for guests to get the full Dune experience.

As Anakin Skywalker reminded us in another sci-fi sequel, sand does tend to get everywhere, and one of the dutiful workers staffing the event broke out shop vacuum to make sure the red carpet wasn’t too sandy.

It feels like a mundane bit of procedure, but it is kind of funny that the red carpet at the premiere of Dune: Part Two got sand all over it.

Some censored NSFW language to follow.

As you can imagine, the sands of Arrakis getting all over the Dune: Part Two red carpet inspired plenty of jokes.
