Passing game coordinator and receivers coach Drew Terrell is seen as a potential up-and-coming coaching candidate.

The NFL’s spring league meeting will be in Minneapolis next week and, as part of it, the league will host a coach accelerator, meant to expose diverse future potential head coaching candidates to league executives.

The Arizona Cardinals will be represented.

Wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator Drew Terrell was invited and will participate.

Williams was the Cardinals’ cornerbacks coach from 2019-2022 under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.

Randy Jordan to participate in the NFL Coach Accelerator Program

The NFL will hold the Coach Accelerator program at the owners meetings next week. Commanders RBs coach Randy Jordan will attend.

The National Football League will host the second annual Coach Accelerator Program at the spring meetings next week in Minneapolis. The Coach Accelerator will run from May 21-23 and will include 40 coaches who are viewed as potential future head-coaching candidates.

Some on the list have interviewed for head-coaching vacancies before, and most are currently with an NFL team.

The Coach Accelerator program and the Front Office Accelerator began last year.

Representing the Washington Commanders will be running backs coach Randy Jordan. Jordan, a former NFL running back, has been with Washington since 2014 and transitioned from Jay Gruden’s staff to Ron Rivera’s staff. The 52-year-old Jordan played 10 years in the NFL and immediately jumped into coaching in 2003 after his retirement.

Another familiar name from his time in Washington is Drew Terrell. Terrell spent the past three seasons with Washington before the Commanders reshaped their offensive coaching staff under new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Terrell took a job with the Arizona Cardinals as wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator.

Here’s a press release from the NFL regarding the Coach Accelerator:

The Coach Accelerator aims to increase exposure between owners, executives, and diverse coaching talent, providing ample opportunity to develop and build upon their relationships. In a change to the nomination process this year, clubs were able to nominate those from outside of their organization.

The 40 participants this year are attending based on their high potential to be considered for a Head Coach position in the future. Sixteen of the participants will be returning from the May 2022 Accelerator cohort.

In addition to networking, further development of the participants is a critical component of the accelerator, with curated content sessions scheduled that will further engage each participant on the advancement of their executive leadership skills and business acumen.

“In the year since its inception, we’ve been encouraged by the positive response to the Accelerator from both club owners and participants,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell“We look forward to continuing to build on an incredible program that supports diverse talent.”

Rookie Michael Wilson shares interesting connection to Cardinals WR coach

Both Wilson and Cardinals WR coach Drew Terrell wore No. 4 at Stanford,

Receiver Michael Wilson was surprised when the Arizona Cardinals selected him in the third round of the 2023 draft. He said in his conference call after being drafted that he wouldn’t have had the Cardinals even in his top 10 of teams interested,

However, he does share an interesting connection with a Cardinals coach.

Wilson, who wore No. 4 in college for Stanford, shared a number with the Cardinals’ receivers coach Drew Terrell. Terrell wore No. 4 for Stanford in his college career.

In five seasons for the Cardinal, Wilson caught 134 passes for 1,662 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Terrell, who played for Staford from 2009-2012, finished with 71 career receptions for 797 yards and one touchdown.

Commanders WRs coach Drew Terrell is expected to land with the Cardinals

Drew Terrell spent three seasons with the Commanders.

The Washington Commanders promoted Drew Terrell to wide receivers coach ahead of the 2021 season after spending his first season in Washington as an assistant WRs coach.

Last week, the 31-year-old Terrell received his first chance to interview for an offensive coordinator position with the Arizona Cardinals. While Terrell didn’t land the job, he is still expected to land with the Cardinals, according to multiple reports.

Terrell’s first NFL opportunity came in 2018 with current Washington head coach Ron Rivera and the Carolina Panthers. Terrell spent two years in Carolina as a quality control coach.

While not confirmed, it didn’t sound like Washington was planning on keeping Terrell from a new opportunity. There could be two reasons for this, as his contract may be up, or new offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy plans to hire his own wide receivers coach.

Commanders WR coach Drew Terrell could land job on Cardinals’ coaching staff

Despite not getting the offensive coordinator job, the Cardinals could hire Drew Terrell as passing game coordinator.

The Arizona Cardinals interviewed Washington Commanders wide receivers coach Drew Terrell for their offensive coordinator job. He did not get the job. That position went to Drew Petzing, formerly the quarterbacks coach for the Cleveland Browns.

However, Terrell still could land a spot on new head coach Jonathan Gannon’s coaching staff.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Terrell “is considered a strong candidate for a passing game coordinator role” in Arizona.

Terrell is only 31 years old and has been coaching in the NFL since 2018. From 2014-2017 he was a graduate assistant in college for Virginia Techa nd Michigan. In 2018-2019, he was offensive quality control coach for the Carolina Panthers under head coach Ron Rivera. He followed Rivera to Washington in 2020 as assistant wide receivers coach and was promoted to receivers coach in 2021.

The Cardinals want to interview Commanders WR coach for offensive coordinator

Could the Commanders be losing another position coach?

New Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon is wasting no time putting together his first NFL staff. Gannon reached out to the Washington Commanders with a request to interview one of their bright, young offensive coaches.

On Thursday, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that Gannon wants to interview Washington wide receivers coach Drew Terrell for his vacant offensive coordinator position with the Cardinals.

Terrell, 31, began his coaching career in 2014 as a graduate assistant at Virginia Tech. From 2015-17, Terrell was a graduate assistant at Michigan before landing with the Carolina Panthers under Ron Rivera in 2018 as an offensive quality control assistant.

After two years in that role, Rivera brought Terrell with him to Washington in 2020. After one year as the assistant wide receivers coach, Rivera promoted Terrell to wide receivers coach in 2021. In his three seasons with Washington, Terrell has coached Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Curtis Samuel, Cam Sims and others. He’s widely lauded as an up-and-coming coaching star.

Terrell played wide receiver at Stanford under Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw.

If Gannon hires Terrell, it would be the third coach the Commanders have lost since the end of the season. Washington fired offensive coordinator Scott Turner and lost DBs coach Chris Harris to the Tennessee Titans.

With Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy currently interviewing for Washington’s OC job, he may prefer to bring in some of his own assistants.
